[MADtv] 12/10 Taping Details - SPOILERS!

I went to tonight’s taping, and OOOOH boy, was it awesome.

Here are, best as I can recall, the sketches I saw:

Celebrity Quarters: Holiday Eggnog Edition
This had Ike ad Nick Nolte, Frank as William Shatner, Stephanie as Anna Nicole, Bobby as William Hung, one other cast member (Ron, I want to say) as some Canadian star, Aries as some basketball player, and a dog. It was okay. Pretty wacky, and some good laughs, including Franks Shatner impression and Bobby and Stephanie taking Eggnog hits from a beer bong. 3/5

Pretape: Aries and Ike (IIRC) at [Some awards show - video music awards?]
Just like any other awards show bit. Some good interviews, but not great either. 3/5

Pretape: 2-Litre Beth: Holiday Banquet flavor (I may have the name wrong).
This involved 2-Litre Beth marketing a new "holiday" themed flavor of Fanta that includes turkey, gravy, stuffing, etc (ewww.) It didn’t live up to the original 2-Litre Beth, but still had its moments. I would have given it a 4.5 out of 5 if not for the sheer grossness of the soda. 4/5.

Ms. Swan at the Candy Store:
YES! Tonight featured Alex Borstein as a guest star. Sheer awesome. I almost fainted when I saw Swan’s face. I was like “HOLY CRAP! Is that…. MS. SWAN?” A note to excited members: This sketch was Valentines Day themed, so Don’t expect to see it until Valentines day. This sketch, as the name implies, features Ms. Swan buying candy for valentines day. Michael McDonald as the candy seller. Pretty damn hilarious. A bit of a gross out ending involving Alpo and a part of the body (I don’t want to COMPLETELY ruin it. :p) But still… It was SWAN! So… 5/5.

Pretape: Abercrombie Race Issues.
Another Abercrombie sketch featuring Abercrombie’s recent race issues, and featuring some black Abercrombie guys.

Pretape: [I don’t remember right now. I’ll come back when I do – I do, however, remember that it had Avril Lavigne in it – actually, it may have been the Abercrombie sketch.]

Greeting Card Company:
IIRC, they’ve done this sketch before. It had both Alex Borstein and Seth Green in it, as greeting card business owners. In this sketch, Seth falls for the new assistant, also in an electric wheelchair.

Pretape: Shaq and the Former Lakers.
Well… not very funny. Aries Shaq impression is okay… and there were one or two jokes I liked… but really…. 2/5.

Christmas show introduction with Clay Aiken:
Nicole Parker introduced the Christmas show, and then Clay Aiken (Ron Pederson) did some Christmas songs and jokes

Real Motherf***in Talk: Holiday Edition.
This sketch is getting old. Thankfully, this particular sketch was saved by Keegan and Michael McDonald. Keegan was VERY funny as a black man trying to return to his African roots. Not bad. 3.5/5

Also coming up on the show: Musical guest The Hives.
Unfortunately, they performed earlier today – I gather they had some concert to get to.

Also, for reasons beyond me, Nicole Sullivan dropped by to say hi. She wasn’t in any sketches, though.

There was also a LOT of audience interaction tonight, including this one woman with crazy spiked hair.

All in all, it was a pretty awesome night. I might be forgetting something… if so, I’ll update this post.

There were some rumors a while ago that Nicole will be guest starring again this season, so perhaps she was there to talk about that with the producers, etc.

I'm so glad she is still around the show, even though not as a regular cast member. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Nicole Sullivan made this show what it was during its glory time.

Okay, a bunch of updates.

The pretape with Avril Lavigne was a educational sex film from the 70s called "The Right Time for Sex". I dont remember get that many laughs from it, but I definatly didn't think it sucked either. 3/5.

Also, more details/changes:

The Holiday Celebrity Quarters sketch also had Nicole Parker (I think) as Renee Zellweger. A few Bridget Jones jokes. Also, I may be wrong on Anna Nicole Smith - it may have been Paris Hilton. I do KNOW it was Paris Hilton's dog, Tinkerbell...

The greeting card sketch had Bobby Lee and Ron Pederson (IIRC) as the workers. They also filmed what I would call a "closing credits sequnce" with the Brigthlings chasing down Ron (again, IIRC). Stephanie Weir played the new office assistant.

Also, I forgot another pretape. It was Kim Jong Il and [Some rapper? - Played by Aries] singing a rap song. It was actually pretty funny, I don't know why I forgot it. Lots of not so subtle sexual references. 3.5/5.

And yes, Nicole Sullivan was in NO sketches. Seriously, I had a feeling she was at another closeby set and decided to visit, or maybe she WAS talking to producers. *shrug*

Alright. I'm pretty sure that's everything now. Whew.

ETA: Oh, and MysterE - Yes, I am currently attending Occidental College, which is in Los Angeles. A group was going (as a fundraiser - I gather MadTV actually payed $10 a person for our group!) so I decided to go - it was definately a nice break from studying for finals.

Was it Emcee Esher from season 9? Did it also have Frank as Donald Trump and Nicole as Norah Jones (I think it was), or is this one a completely different Kim Jong?

I didn't realize MADtv paid for some of it's audience. That's cool. If I could afford it I'd send you to EVERY taping.

Hooray! Anna Nicole sketch returns! I like her. Bunny Swan will steal the show when it comes on. Along with the Brightlings sketch. Yuk, another Abercrombie sketch. Enough please. Real Mother****ing talk is getting repetitive and is showing up more close together like all the Lorraine sketches last season (but they were funny atleast). However, I think season 10 will be the best ever! If we only knew why Nicole was there and when will Mo start taping?

But oh well, must continue my Rat Race: MADtv Style! sketch...
