Question Chat Room + Trivia = Participation?
That's right -- it's time once again for another of Matt's Pointless Ideas™.

This week, I'm considering tossing a trivia bot in our chat room. The poor thing obviously needs a bit of love, so this could be just what the doctor ordered!
Q: "Trivia bot"? Say what?
A: Think of it as Internet Jeopardy. There won't be any MADtv-related questions from the get go, but I can add new submissions at any time.

Q: What's the point?
A: The running theory is, if the chat room has something to hold visitors for more than ten seconds, it might actually get some use.

Q: Why would anyone play?
A: For fun? But, if that's not good enough, I suppose we could hold tournaments or what-have-you.

Q: Sounds good! What are you waiting for then?
A: Confirmation that such an undertaking would be worth my time.
So, what do you guys think? Would you play? Could you see yourself playing more than once? Would you be willing to submit MADtv questions? Would you play in the absence of MADtv questions? Should I get a life and stop wasting your time? Any and all feedback is welcomed.

A trivia thing would be GREAT , but I don't think the chat room is the proper medium for it. I think more people would use the chat room, it's just that it's so hidden... maybe you should provide a link on the front page.

i think thats a great idea

and have a point system or something so u can have weekly leaders and stuff

i have actually never been able to get into the chatroom

i guess now is a good time to try again

Perhaps, but as I say, what are the chances of anyone sticking around for more than ten seconds if the room is a barren wasteland?

Any idea why? Does it give you guys an error message? Is Java not installed on your computers?

I'm not sure if I'd have a lot of time for it, but it sounds like fun! I'm sure everyone would have a good time in there. It seems like such a waste if no one's using it.

We do have the same amount of regular chatters we did last year when we were getting prosperous BUT many of us live in different time zones which can complicate matters.

Well sure I'd like to compete.. but I dunno, the chat room just seems too weird for it. Plus, people make typos all the time, so the answer would be counted as wrong. And there's so few of us that are on at the same time, it just wouldn't be much. It should be a feature of the whole new site, I think.

see the way i see it, everyone doesn't have to be on at the same time, its just a bonus if they are

i guess whoever goes in the most and answers questions would be the leader
i'm kinda addicted to trivia at the moment cause of this trivia channel on irc

thats where all my rantings are coming from

all u have to do is download the program, install it
and just join up to a server and ur off and running

u might wanna read some help files on it or something

it can be a bit over whelming at first if you've never used it

Maybe it would help if we set up times for regular chats. The reason that I never use it is because nobody else does. Otherwise, I'd probably use it a lot.

I have to agree with this one. The one time I went to the chat room, no one was there. Then again, it was when everyone was probably asleep anyways. I know I don't participate in this board much, but the chat room idea would be cool. Trivia or general chat??? Either would be good to get members together.

As for figuring out a time, I think we should put what days and times we're available, so we can come to a consensus.

Pretty much, I'm definitely available on MWF after 6:00 PM EST, TR after 8:00 PM EST.
