Ok, there have been several "Report Card" threads over the years, so I decided to start a new one for Season 11. Basically, what I want is you to put down each castmember, give a brief description on what you think of them, tell us your favorite/least favorite thing they did this season, and the letter grade you would give them. (A, B, C, D, F)
Ike Barinholtz: Ehhh. It's been said so many times that Ike is MUCH better at improv than sketch comedy. He's improved from 8-10, which is a plus. He can be funny when it comes to red carpet events, improv, and when he acts like himself in those "Around Town" sketches. When it comes to non-improv, he's just...well...forgettable. Of course, he can still bring down a sketch from time to time, though it's nothing like his S8 days. Best sketch: Hmm...I'll go with his multiple roles in Laguna Biotch. Worst sketch: OTD...can't believe I forgot about this one...well...considering it sucked...yea...I can. And Celebrity Obsessed...he completely ruined it with his Kevin Federline impression toward the end. Final Grade: C Frank Caeti: He's REALLY starting to grow on me. The strongest episodes of the season featured him in heavy rotation. Curt Jones was just OK, but both Baby sketches were funny. If he becomes a regular next year, he should do pretty well. MAD needs more strong males, and so far Frank looks to be it. Best sketch: Baby's First Steps Worst sketch: Because I can't think of anything horrible starring just himself, I'll say all 3 FOX NFL Sunday sketches...but he had NOTHING to do with them being so horrible. Final Grade: B+ Frank Caliendo: At this point, he's gotten pretty stale. Although I really like him and he's the best impressionist MAD has ever had, right now I'm kind of glad this is his last season. At least he chose a good time to leave. However, a BIG concern for S12 is that MAD will have to find a new male impressionist. Best Sketch: My Name is Dubya Worst Sketch: Probably one of those Bush on-stage sketches, except for the one from 1102...that one was great. Final Grade: B- Crista Flanagan: She's just mediocre. I don't think she's the worst castmember in MADtv history, but she's not great at all, either. Her biggest problem is her tendency to overact. Also, after viewing 1112, her 'breakout' episode, where she gave nothing more than a so-so performance, I've become less impressed with her. Best Sketch: 3 Minute Meals Worst Sketch: Again, Bigg Wangs Final Grade: C Daniele Gaither: Oy...it's not a matter of what she did bad, but a matter of what she did PERIOD. She's hardly been in anything this season! However, she did appear quite a bit in the last 2 eps, which is good, and also proved that she's still an impressive castmember. Best Sketch: Yvoone Criddle Worst Sketch: The Duralog Twins Final Grade: B Nicole Randall Johnson: She's been great so far, mainly due to the fact the her character Kaysaun is without a shadow of a doubt the best new recurring character since Season 8. She's also been pretty good elsewhere, but that's the highlight. Her only weakness seems to be impressions. Still, I will cry if she doesn't make it next year. Best Sketch: Kaysaun: Valentine's Day Worst Sketch: Jeffersons '06...her Weezie Jefferson impression wasn't very good. Final Grade: A- Keegan-Michael Key: Same situation with Daniele...he's done little this season, and even worse, the stuff he HAS done (namely HNL) wasn't that great. But last week's Coach Hines was AWESOME!!! Best Sketch: Coach Hines: Oliver Twist Worst Sketch: Probably Ho Nuva Leva: Jeff Probst Final Grade: B- Bobby Lee: Hehehehe mizz...I will say he's funnier when he's 'himself' than when he's Bae Sung, Tank, or Blind Kung Fu Master...but that's like saying you're funnier than the crappiest characters in MADtv history. With few exceptions, he's very annoying in his sketches. Best Sketch: 24 with Bobby Lee: John Cena (which isn't saying much ![]() Worst Sketch: Tank: Arcade (just to name one) Final Grade: C- Michael McDonald: Way past his prime. He can still be funny, don't get me wrong, and he's still a very talented writer, it's just that this is his worst season hands-down. However, he was still very good in 1109. Best Sketch: Karen's New Girlfriend Worst Sketch: Marvin Tikvah Star Search Final Grade: B- Arden Myrin: AKA the worst female in MADtv history. Why? For the simple reason that she seemingly has no range, and is also very annoying IMO. Nick has been praising her non-MAD work quite a bit, though...which begs the question, why can't Arden bring that stuff to MAD? Best Sketch: Karen's New Girlfriend...I actually thought she was OK there. Stop trying so hard, Arden... Worst Sketch: FOX NFL Sunday and the Keg Party...absolutely cringe-worthy. Final Grade: D+ Nicole Parker: And now we come to the best of the best. Except for the disastrous Ellen Show parody and Inside Looking Out, everything she's done ranged from great to brilliant. Without her, Season 11 would be nearly unwatchable. Awesome impressions, great singing, flawless acting...the list goes on and on. Best Sketch: Just one...? Ok, QVC Quacker Factory Worst Sketch: The Ellen Show...except for the dancing, this blew. Final Grade: A Jordan Peele: Has made a huge jump this season. Most of the stuff he has done (Gayngster, Trapped in the Cupboard, Lorenz, hell, I even liked the new "Man Up" sketch a bit after seeing it again) has been pretty good. He's well on his way to becoming one of the better males in MAD history, though...like I said, MAD needs more strong males. Best Sketch: Lorenz Worst Sketch: Inside Looking Out: Compact Discovery Final Grade: B+ I'm not going to include Steph, because of the simple fact that she's been on very, very little in S11, but what she HAS done was great, but not the best stuff of her career by a mile. __________________ I've gone minimalist now Last edited by Cagnazzo; 06/16/2006 at 4:34 PM. |

I would give Arden at least a C. Her Ghost Whsiperer was preaty funny. Also, the Gillian sketches were preaty good. You know the Fox football?

It's just that they both look the same (Arden and Gilliean). If you watch FOX on Sunday the you would know what I am talking about.

I'll do this again at the end of the season. Keep in mind I haven't seen the last two eps.
![]() Ike Barinholtz: He has improved, but he's still not very good. He's just not a great actor and he has little range. Best sketch: Jason in Laguna Biotch. Only the first one though, his impression wasn't good in the second one. Worst sketch: On the Download (all of them) Final Grade: C- Frank Caeti: I haven't seen him do anything unimpressive, really. At the same time, nothing has wow'ed me either. Best sketch: Curt Jones Buick Autoplex Worst sketch: Baby's first steps. I didn't find it hilarious and I'm surprised so many people did. Final Grade: B- Frank Caliendo: It's not really his fault that they're using him for the same impressions over and over, but I am growing tired of them. Best Sketch: My Name is Dubya Worst Sketch: Umm, that one where Dubya had a talk show. Lame. Final Grade: C+ Crista Flanagan: I don't even know what to say about her. Sometimes I like her, sometimes I don't. She can be very funny, so I'll leave it at that..?? Whatever. Best Sketch: Jazzed for Crafts (the first one) Worst Sketch: The View. Her impression was really bad Final Grade: B- Daniele Gaither: I feel bad for her. They just don't give her anything to do most of the time. I still like her, she's wayyy underused. Best Sketch: Grey's Anatomy (I haven't seen Yvoone yet) Worst Sketch: Boob Whisperer Final Grade: B+ Nicole Randall Johnson: What can I say? I love her so far, even with notsomany appearances. She better return next season. Best Sketch: Kaysaun: Valentine's Day & Camp Winnatonka (I can't choose) Worst Sketch: she hasn't done anything that I've disliked so far Final Grade: A Keegan-Michael Key: Much like Crista, he's good, then he's not...over and over. I like him but I wouldn't be too sad if he was gone. Best Sketch: Coach Hines: Bus Ride Worst Sketch: Crazy as Hell 2005 Final Grade: B- Bobby Lee: Go away, Bobby. Best Sketch: 24 with Bobby Lee & John Cena Worst Sketch: Bobby and Ike go to the Movies Final Grade: D- Michael McDonald: He's played out. Time to move on, kiddo. I'd like to see some Special Patrick first though. Best Sketch: Mike's Hatemail Worst Sketch: The Silver Fox & The Coldplay video Final Grade: C+ Arden Myrin: She's annoying a lot of the time. Tone it down, please. She's ok at times though. Best Sketch: Sake of my Fame Worst Sketch: Boob Whisperer Final Grade: C- Nicole Parker: She's great. I like pretty much everything she does. Best Sketch: Laguna Biotch Worst Sketch: The Ellen Show (the dancing was great but her impression was a tad off) Final Grade: A+ Jordan Peele: I'm glad he's getting a chance to shine. It's too bad they didn't feature him more often in the last two seasons. Best Sketch: Starbucks Superheroes Worst Sketch: Supersticious Knights Final Grade: A |

How can you really put the whole Meredith Viera (sp?) impression against her?
She's just one of those people who have personalities that aren't as dynamic and distinguishable. I mean, it's easy to pick on Joy Behar or Barbara Walters, but Meredith? What can you really pick out of her for a "good" impression? It was a generic role, much like how she seems in the spotlight (Meredith). I hardly think she's liable for that. I'd rather they be accurate than act like a crazed maniac just to get laughs. I don't watch the View regularly, but I have seen her on Millionaire and the View a few times. Crista's not 100% fantastic, but her impressions are the least of her faults. |

Just because an impression is "generic" doesn't mean it can't be inaccurate, and hers was awful. And that's why I "put it against her". That is what I think her worst role has been. It's all a matter of opinion.

Much how like I think Crista's overacting is her main weakness, hm?
![]() I'm going to abstain from doing this until the end of the season. With just a couple left, perhaps some of the less-liked characters will have a few sketches to prove their worth...or at least change some people's minds. |

I'm not doing this yet, either, but I'm glad that at least someone agrees with me on Kaysaun's being the best new recurring character of the past three seasons. For that reason alone, I want NRJ back next season. You hear that, doodyheads?
![]() But, yeah, I'm waiting until the end of the season to "grade" everyone. Who knows? Arden might actually make me laugh once before season's end. ![]() Nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! O.K., well, even though I've missed a handful of eps, I feel qualified enough to rip these peeps some new ones.
![]() ![]() ![]() Arden Myrin--Young lady, I don't think there are enough afternoon eraser-dusting sessions in the world that can make up for your first "MADtv" season. I maybe--MAYBE--snickered for about half a second during "Taradise," but that's it. Thank goodness Nicole Parker has been there to "save" you in the "Laguna Biotch" sketches; otherwise, your year would have been a total wash. Because I'm in a fairly good mood, I'll let you slide with a VERY generous D-. Next year--if indeed there IS a next year for you ![]() Crista Flanagan--Is this a high-school theater production? Honey, honey, learn to act! I know you're trying, but Luann excepted, you're not conveying the right emotions when you portray characters; and this tendency is ruining nearly any chance you have to be truly funny. Granted, "3-Minute Meal" is a slight improvement over most of the rest of your S11 work; but it can't singlehandedly make up for Crafty Gals, Hype Jingleberries, "Handicapped Waitress," the "can I just say" sketch, and many other unfortunate moments. D+...march to the principal's office NOW! Daniele Gaither--You're a very, very fortunate young lady. Thank your fellow classmates Crista and Arden; otherwise...well, let's just say that summer school would not have been a pretty sight. I'll give you high marks for Yvoone Criddle, even though your S10 sketch is much better. You've also had some funny moments in the "Jeffersons" parody and in the nanny sketch w/ NRJ; but otherwise, this season has been a washout for you. C-...and I want those sentences on my desk tomorrow! Keegan-Michael Key--Well, Keegan, even though you deliver on Coach Hines and elicited a snicker or two from me during the "Superstitious Knights: Casino" sketch and Jovan Muskatelle sketches, you haven't done your best work this season. While you haven't had too many truly bad moments this season, you haven't stood out for me either. You have tremendous performing energy, though, so just keep looking for creative ways to use it. In the meantime, I'll let you slide with a C and an afternoon detention session with Steven Cragg. Nicole Randall Johnson--Oh, Nicole, dear, you show so much promise! Now if we could only find more ways for you to deliver on it. Aside from Ka-Son, one of the best recurring characters in a long while (at least for the first two sketches), I can't say that you've really wowed me too much so far. Still, you far outshine Danielle in the nannies-at-the-park sketch, and your Randy Jackson impression is impressive. Maybe next season, when you're a regular cast member, we'll see what you're really made of. For now, C+. Michael McDonald--Oh, Michael, you know you're one of my all-time faves, but we haven't given 100% this season, now, have we? Because you ARE Michael McDonald, you'll still have your moments, naturally. Goodness, you almost singlehandedly save a handful of Crista's one-offs; so for that alone, you should probably receive a Congressional Medal of Honor. Still, this ain't Congress, and I need more out of you next season--C+. Frank Caliendo--Well, it hasn't been your best season either, Frank; however, I'm not sure that's totally your fault. Those "MADtv" crazies keep asking you to rehash those same impressions ad nauseum, so what can you do? Still, those same crazies have also given you some late-season one-off sketch appearances that seem to bring out a much neglected side of your tremendous performance ability, esp. in that "Workshop" sketch from 1121. I hate to see you go when there's still so much untapped potential in that area, but so it goes. B- for me...good luck in college. ![]() Frank Caeti--First of all, thank you for your extracurricular pursuits as a PlanetMADtv poster--awesome! ![]() ![]() Nicole Parker--Nicole, honey, you know that I think you're a terrific, versatile talent. Might I suggest something for next season, that is, if everyone else at "MADtv" is open to the suggestion? I for one would like to see a lot less reliance on impressions and video/movie/TV parodies and a greater move toward one-offs, where I feel you're sorely needed. *Cough!* *Crista and Arden!* *Cough!* You're in grave danger of slipping into Frank Caliendo Generic Land if you're not careful. Still, I've loved you in the "You're Beautiful" parody, the recent "marry/sleep with/kill" sketch w/ Steph, the "QVC" sketch, "Inside Looking Out," and a number of others. If I didn't think you were worthy of constructive criticism, then I wouldn't waste my breath. ![]() Ike Barinholtz--Ikeman, you've kinda helped shaked things up this season, haven't you? No matter what your fellow classmates say, the "On the Download" segments aren't THAT bad; and you more than make up for them with your typically hilarious red carpet appearances and "on the town" sketches with Bo0by. The Bo Bice sketch was also a pleasant surprise for me, as was "Knobs." I could use a few more one-offs like the flashlight sketch and "Workshop," in which you also excel. The goofier the sketch, the better you are; so ditch the straight-man roles once and for all. Overall, though, I'll throw you an A-. Jordan Peele--As with Frank Caeti, I'll begin by thanking you for your participation at PlanetMADtv; this experience will help you get into the best college (or in this case, Boom! Chicago ![]() ![]() ![]() Bobby Lee--Well, you decided to go out with a bang, didn't you? Let the others talk, Bob; you know you're loved. I've always liked you, but this season, you've really extended yourself to give people a show--pardon the pun. ![]() ![]() Sorry, but no one quite merits an A+. (I'm tough but fair. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________ "Charles Nelson Reilly is a bad mutha...." "Shut yo' mouth!" "I'm talkin' 'bout Macho Chuck." "We can dig it!" |

Ike Barinholtz:
Frank Caliendo
Crista Flanagan
Daniele Gaither
Keegan-Michael Key
Bobby Lee
Michael McDonald
Arden Myrin
Nicole Parker
Jordan Peele
Nicole RJ and Frank Caeti were featured...though something told me they had more appearances than some of the repertory players. At least, major appearances (or noticeable ones). Both of them get an A, because they have had solid performances for a featured performer. It's not surprising they seemed to get more time than other previous featureds, because of their solid acting skills. Ka-Son, Kurt Jones, and the many one-offs in between just made me have faith in featured actors again. ^_^ Blech. That was about 15 mins of typing -.- |

I haven't been watching MadTV as much as I used to lately but I'll do my best. Not going to do best/worst sketches.
Ike Barinholtz: I think hes pretty good actually. I understand that a lot of people don't like him, but I like his deadpan delivery a lot of the time. I don't care for the red carpet sketches at all. I don't find it hilarious when a celebrity says something sorta kinda funny but because they are a celebrity its an excuse not to use the writers, but I digress. Final Grade: B Frank Caeti: Haven't really formed much of an opinion on this guy so far. He doesn't seem to be used very often. Because of this he gets a C. My fault, not his. Final Grade: C Frank Caliendo: SICK of him. I really don't watch MADTV for impressions. Leave that hacky crap to bad standup comedians and SNL. I think MADTV would be okay without a Bush impersonator. To Frank's credit, he does pretty accurate impressions (except for on that Sopranos sketch, TERRIBLE), but they aren't funny at all. Madtv is more about humor than it is about "oh wow that really does sound like so and so." Final Grade: D Crista Flanagan: Consitently good. While her sketches aren't particularly standouts, the way she performs them does stand out. In particular, her mastery of facial expressions in the characters she plays impresses me. Quite good. Final Grade: A- Daniele Gaither: She's really come into her own lately. Definitely a professional and seriously funny. Not my favorite cast member but I think shes a keeper. Final Grade: B+ Nicole Randall Johnson: All around good cast member. I'm beginning to notice I don't have a lot to say about most of the cast members. Definitely good though. Final Grade: A- Keegan-Michael Key: Coach Hines is fantastic. He gets an A just for that. Nuff said. Final Grade: A- Bobby Lee: GO AWAY! Jesus am I sick of seeing Bobby Lee's face every week. All the laughs he gets are either him laughing when hes not supposed to in a scene or doing the same homoerotic jokes over and over again. Final Grade: F- (GTFO) Michael McDonald: Hes done well in the past but he is getting stale. He should have backed out of the cast and kept his dignity a few seasons ago. Also, if I see another Stuart sketch, I will hang myself. Final Grade: D+ Arden Myrin: Not great, not terrible. She plays her parts well on paper but there really isn't anything out of the ordinary with her. She does seem to play the same roles I've seen over and over again and really just doesn't make me laugh, and isn't laughter what its all about folks? ![]() Final Grade: C- Nicole Parker: Gorgeous, funny as hell, PUDDIN? Yeah thats an A+. Nicole Parker has great range and as I've said in the past, she can play just about any character and do so very well. Nicole Parker has impressed the hell out of me. I also don't appreciate everyone in #planetmadtv telling me she got kicked out of the cast ![]() Final Grade: A+ Jordan Peele: He's in the same boat with Keegan. Hes got a couple of bad sketches under his belt but overall really just makes me laugh. Keegan + Jordan (Man Up) FTW! Final Grade: A __________________ An invariant mass requires rest energy without a HITCH, which makes Newton's second law as it appears in a nonrelativistic classical mechanics sitch, BIATCH.
