Default Cast Members That Write Their Own Material

I think this has been mentioned before, but... there should be more cast members that write some of their own sketches. That what gives some cast members most of their success: Nicole with Vancome, Michael with Stuart, Stephnie... the list goes on. I think that's what makes them somewhat funnier most of the time than normal sketches.

Actually, Michael writes the sketches to all of his characters except for Bible Dude and Dot's dad and Trina's boyfriend, plus the O'Reilly parodies. He writes a lot of the sketches that he takes a really big lead role in.
Same for Stephnie - she writes all of her characters though, 'cept for Zamula (Glamazon Huntress).

Stephnie and Michael have written one sketch together that I know of - that absolutely kickass self-defense one in episode #812. They should try working together again, they make a very strong team

Where did you get that info? I never knew that Stephnie wrote THAT much of her own material.

Alex Borstein wrote a lot of material too. Go to imdb.com and check out the writer's section.

The credits, where else? lol Both her and Michael have material in just about every other episode.

And yep, Alex wrote a lot of her own material too.

BTW, just thought of something.. remember last year, for February sweeps, where they had a Stuart and Swan month? Well, there was a huge writers' strike going on at the time, and both Swan and Stuart were written by Alex and Michael, respectively. Obviously, it worked for the show's ratings because of how wildly popular the two characters are, but perhaps this was kind of a cheap thing also in that they had cast members write a big bulk of material rather than professional writers?

Oh, and Mo created Trina and used to write her sketches pre-MAD BTW.. but I don't think she's written any of her MAD sketches.. I wonder why?

Ike and Josh wrote that Detention sketch - you can clearly tell which parts Ike wrote and which parts Josh did though, Ike's parts are all stupid and amateurish while Josh actually had a couple clever parts

If I had to pick the overall worst sketch to ever appear on MADtv, that could very well be my #1 choice. It was horribly acted, horribly written, slow moving, and just bad in general. I see why MAD hasn't asked Ike and Josh to write again...

Nah, I would say that that lame season four Will-Debra-Bret Hart supposed "fight" thing is the worst thing the show has ever done.. blah.. and they spread it out over like four episodes

I thought Josh was actually okay in that sketch though, maybe even "pretty good" level. But Ike.. ugh.. horrible horrible horrible, incredibly annoying....

No, both of you are wrong. The WORST sketch EVER on MADtv was....take a deep breath....Put Down the Gun

That was definitely an awful sketch, but still not as completely pointless is all those wrestling ones. A lot of Will's sketches would rank under one of the worst - one that automatically came to mind is that beyond-stupid Wigs for Kids one last season.

Oh, and speaking of last season, do you remember that weird sketch where a reporter was asking the audience what they like about "MADtv", and it was just stupid stuff like "STUART!!!!" Did they put ANY thought into that one?

One of my favorite sketches would have to be the one in #802 called the World's Queeniest Police Chases. This was also written by Michael but it was so funny!! Michael is the best writer/actor! He does the gay stereotype really well!

The sketch was slow-moving until the end, when Ike announced that he took a dump in the ground beef. It was low-brow, but Josh's reaction to Ike's statement was very funny, and that line was completely unexpected. Not the best of skits, but still good for a bunch of laughs.

Well, I get the two mixed up all the time. I used to get Phil and Pat mixed up in season five, even though they look nothing like each other.
