Default Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Benjamin Barker returns to London from his wrongful exile in Australia with nothing but the overwhelming urge to get revenge for being taken away from his wife and daughter.
Under the name Sweeney Todd, he opens a new barbershop, and with the help of pie shop owner Ms. Lovett, has his revenge upon the people of London.

Sweeney Todd is the movie adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's broadway musical of the same name. It's directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp in his first ever singing role.
I absolutely loved the movie, even compared to the musical, and like most Burton movies was amazing to look at, his style fit perfectly.

Overall I was really happy with the casting, except the girl who played Johanna made me cringe when she sang. Depp's pseudo-singing actually went well, because personally I doubt Sweeney was that talented a singer. The best was Helena Bonham Carter as Ms Lovett, it jst worked so well.

The costumes, make up and set design were really impressive and better win some awards.
The only problem I had with the movie was the overly CG look of the opening credits, it was disappointing. But other than that, wonderful movie.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
117 min
Rated R
Stars: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Sacha Baron Cohen

PS. HAH, I got to see this movie a week before the general public. Wah Wahhh.

I want to see this movie so bad! I love the show. DId they really cut all the Ballads of Sweeney Todd out of the moive though.....cause I feel like that may ruin it.

Yah, they cut it. But I didn't feel like that ruined it at all, still thought it was great.

Oh I totally loved Helena Bonham Carter in this movie. She was perfect as Mrs Lovett and the chemistry between her and Johnny Depp was great stuff. I also liked the kid who played Tobey and the guy who played Beadle Bamford. I though Alan Rickman was miscast as Turpin... I don't know what it was, but he always seems like he's playing the same character and thee is no real depth to his performances. The subplot with Johanna and Anthony was just annoying, although I knew it was vital to the story, I just wanted to get back to Mrs Lovett.

It's not the kind of movie that I need to watch again, but I definitely liked it.

I loved Helen in this movie, she was brilliant! The entire ensemble as a whole was great, I was sad the Ballad of Sweeney Todd wasn't in it, but it did not ruin it. Sometimes I thought the blood was a little fake looking, but I enjoy this movie, I just watched it again the other day on tv lol.

I also enjoy the cameo by Anthony Stuart Head (Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), I wish he had a larger role than just one line, but still it's nice to see him!
