Exclamation BREAKING NEWS: SADDAM HUSSEIN REPORTEDLY ARRESTED

As reported by Reuters UK:
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been arrested, an Iraqi Kurdish representative in Iran says, but the U.S. Defence Department says it can not confirm the report.

"I confirm that Saddam has been arrested," Nazem Dabag, representative in Iran of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), told Reuters on Sunday.

The official Iranian news agency IRNA quoted PUK leader Jalal Talabani as saying that Saddam had been captured in his home town of Tikrit.

"The American forces in Tikrit announced that Saddam was arrested on Sunday. The Americans said that they will announce the news officially in the next few hours," IRNA quoted Talabani as saying.

The news agency report was from Qasr-e Shirin in Iran across the border from Iraq. A Talabani aide said the Kurdish leader was in Tehran on his way to France.

The U.S. Defence Department said it could not confirm the report. Washington has made Saddam number one on its list of 55 most-wanted Iraqis, and placed a $25 million (14 million pounds) reward on his head.

U.S. officials had said Saddam, 66, had eluded American troops by moving every few hours, probably in disguise and aided by members of his clan.

The capture of Saddam would be a major morale boost for U.S. troops in Iraq, who have been under daily attack from shadowy guerrillas, some of whom they believe may have been directed by the former president from hiding.

A U.S.-led coalition toppled Saddam in April. His arrest would be a boost for U.S. President George W. Bush, whose campaign for re-election next year has been imperilled by setbacks and casualties in Iraq.
Finally! It's about time they caught him. I wonder if the guerilla warfare will stop now, probably not.

The Associated Press:
U.S. military captured a man in the basement of a building in Tikrit, Iraq, during raids seeking Saddam Hussein, and initial efforts to verify his identity indicate he is the deposed Iraqi dictator, U.S. officials said Sunday.
"It certainly looks good," one senior U.S. official said, cautioning more scientific testing, possibly DNA, was being done early Sunday morning to try to confirm the identity.

The official said the captured man's appearance did not immediately look like Saddam, but additional efforts to ascertain his identity indicated he was the former leader.

The officials spoke only on condition of anonymity.

The military raids in and near Tikrit, Saddam's hometown, were based on fresh intelligence and were aimed at capturing Saddam, the officials said, and the man was captured in one of the targeted buildings.

"He was in a cellar of the building. His appearance was such that it made it not immediately certain you could say it was Saddam Hussein," the official said.

Saddam's capture would be a defining moment in the Iraq war and subsequent rebuilding process, and Bush administration officials have hoped it would lessen or break the organized resistance against U.S. troops that have led to scores of deaths since the end of combat operations.

Saddam proved elusive at least twice during the war, when dramatic military strikes came up empty in their efforts to assassinate him. Since then, he has appeared in both video and audio tapes.

I'd make damn sure he got as much pain as was humanly possible..I'd cut off his eye lids and pour vineger into his eyes. I'd skin him slowly and rub lemon all over the wound. Then I'd Super heat a stretched out staple, and stick it into his his little arab dick, then remove it and keep doing until he skin heals together. Then I'd Shoot him in the nuts with a nail gun..and slowly removie his pubes from his over sized nut sack.

The problem with todays court systems is that we are too damn forgiving. Death should only be given on a count of one murder, and torture everyone else if they do it more then once..

I like bush, he isn't a f*cken push over, and a whiney bitch like most of the leaders at the useless UN. He saw a threat in Saddam, and brought the force of the americain military on that basturd. He did the right theing, WMD or not.

Heheh, you have a lot more to learn than what you see on TV, mista_mo. Bush is just a puppet-on-a-string, he is controlled by higher powers, his speeches written for him. Figure out who controls him, and you'll get a better idea.
