[MADtv] Nicole Sullivan tries again

That's right, Nicole Sullivan has been cast in yet another pilot, but this one is strikingly different from the last ones. The series is called "Raines", and it is a drama, rather than a comedy. Here is a summary from the Futon Critic:

Luis Guzman ("Luis"), Nicole Sullivan (Chloe Reid on "Hot Properties") and Dov Davidoff (the upcoming Mark Wahlberg-led feature "Invincible") have all joined the cast of the drama pilot, about an eccentric, brilliant cop (Jeff Goldblum) who talks to dead victims that help him solve his cases. No details were given about their respective characters. Graham Yost is behind the NBC Universal Television-based hour, which Frank Darabont is directing.

Quite a turnaround. If picked up, we can expect to see this one next fall. Despite the similarities to a certain other show on the air, hopefully this one makes the cut!

Without having seen the actual show that this pilot is copycatting, I can only guess that you're referring to "The Ghost Whisperer." (Makes sense, huh? ) Eh, I dunno. I already have a bad vibe about this one, if only b/c I'm wary that TV critics will likely pan it--that is, if it even makes the cut. (Watch the cart before the horse, mizz. ) Oh, I can already envision the media's take: "As contrived and unoriginal as this piece of dreck is, the superdoopertalented Nicole Sullivan shines as always. Gosh, oh, gee willikers, too bad the script doesn't measure up...again."































Then again, until that happens, I'm electing to remain as optimistic as always. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY, NICOLE, GO GET 'EM!!!!!!!!

This show is WAY too similar to 'Ghost Wisperer' and 'Medium.'
I hope it doesn't get picked up! Only for the fact that that way, Nicole can move on and get cast in something better rather than going through the humiliation of having yet another of her shows be cancelled. She deserves much, much better than this.

BTW, she was great on Boston Legal last night. A show like that one wouldn't hurt her. You can never go wrong with legal shows!

David E. Kelley should come up with another Ally McBeal-type vehicle for Nicole to star in! Enough of her playing second-fiddle to lesser talent.

I think this show has a chance with because of one reason besides Ms. Sullivan.

Jeff Goldblum maybe people who liked Jurrasic Park and other films starring Mr. Goldblum would give him a shot.

Maybe he might fare better on TV than his ex-wife does on Commander In Chief

I heard from TV Guide that "Raines" has a good chance to be on NBC's fall schedule this season.

TV Guide has reported that Nicole Sullivan's new pilot, the Jeff Goldblum series "Raines" will be one of a handful of shows picked up for the fall season by NBC.

That means that Nicole has a 2-pilot winning streak going on after "Hot Properties' was picked up ABC this time last year.

Let's hope "Raines" last longer than "H.P".

We now have the official word: NBC will pick up "Raines" for the fall season. From what I can gather, it will air on Sunday nights at 10:00 p.m. EST. Two for two--total score! Ahem, okay, mizz, let's not get carried away just yet; this might turn out to be "Hot Properties: The Sequel" if the show doesn't make it past 13 eps. Oh well, fangers crossed!

Edit: Umm, I checked the schedule again, and it turns out that "Raines" will actually be a midseason replacement; "Sunday Night Football" will air in the Sunday at 10:00 p.m. slot during the fall. Stupid @#$#@%! football! Well, that's better than nothing, I guess.

I'm psyched about Nicole's new show, personally. I think she's a versitile actress and she'll be great in a more dramatic role. I thought Hot Properties was pretty bad, so hopefully this show is better.

Well, I just saw the review I just hope Nicole's character get more air time in future episodes when it aired early next year. But then again it was the pilot episode and they might tweak it a little bit just like ABC did with "Hot Properties" when they changed one cast member before the premiere

I read on TVGuide.com that Raines with "hopefully" Nicole Sullivan in a supporting role in the Jeff Goldbum cop drama will premiere in March on NBC Friday Night at 9pm replacing "Las Vegas" which will end its season early

Call me crazy. But I've always enjoyed it when female celebrities wear secretary-type glass as a prop (even when their vision is 20/20).
