Biography:
Crista Flanagan has been performing almost as long as she has been breathing. As a little girl, the Mount Vernon, Illinois, native performed each year in her elementary school's talent show. Childhood friends and family members are quick to note that Crista's sense of humor and comedic timing have also been there from the start. All of these qualities served Crista well after she graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1994 and began attending the University of Evansville, Indiana. After she received her bachelor's degree in theater, Crista moved on to the University of California, Irvine, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts, all the while sharpening her acting skills in university productions such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Oklahoma!

After college, Crista turned her attention to standup comedy. Upon moving to Los Angeles, she began performing in clubs such as the L.A. Improv, the Comedy Store, the Comedy Union, and the Knitting Factory. In time, she created her own one-person comedy show, "But Wait...I Have Impressions," which was later the inspiration for "MADtv" recurring character Luann Lockhart. In 2003, Crista won first prize at the 15 Minutes of Fem Festival in L.A. One interested spectator at this festival was Nicole Garcia, the casting director for "MADtv." Garcia arranged a pre-read for Crista, but nothing more came of the initial "MADtv" audition. A year later, however, Crista was called in again; and after two more auditions and a testing, she could at last call herself a "MADtv" cast member. Although Crista began "MADtv" as a featured player during Season 10, three sketches that she wrote were used, including the first Luann Lockhart sketch. Season 13 will be Crista's third as a full-time "MADtv" cast member.

However, Crista's recent accomplishments extend well beyond "MADtv." In addition to her guest-starring roles on TV shows and her supporting roles in films (including 2007's Epic Movie), Crista can lay claim to one of the most popular podcasts on the Internet, "Hope Is Emo," created in conjunction with Ask a Ninja. Along with former "MADtv" cast member Daniele Gaither, Crista recently hosted the second annual Ladies First Celebrity Golf Tournament, the only all-female charity event. Crista even lent an article to the second edition of Self-Management for Actors, Bonnie Gillespie's handbook for aspiring Thespians. Even with all of these hats to wear, Crista still finds time to visit her hometown of Mount Vernon as often as possible. "I knew she'd make it," quips a childhood friend. "She always loved to act and dance and cut up."

Where are they now?
As of June 2008, Crista has been confirmed for Season 14 of "MADtv." It will mark Crista's fifth season overall on the series, her fourth as a repertory cast member. When she is not busy with "MADtv," Crista also busies herself with several outside projects, such as her Internet podcast, "Hope is Emo," and her most recent film, Disaster Movie. Crista lives in Los Angeles but tries to visit her home town, Mt. Vernon, as often as she can.

A regular at the Comedy Union and LA Improv, Crista is relatively famous for her quirky, ironic and bizarre standup comedy. She won first prize at the 15 minutes of Fem festival in LA and recently performed her one woman show "But wait... I have impressions" at the Comedy Central stage. She is also a pitch hitter with the Hollywood sketch comedy group "Slap 'n' Tickle". While Crista is best known in LA for comedy, she is also an excellent actor, with many stage and television credits (including ER and the Practise). Originally from a small town in Southern Illinois, she earned an MFA in acting from UC Irvine and works regularly to heal audiences victimised by bad entertainment.

I'm 100% sure it was Crista! They even introduced her at the end of the taping. Maybe what she taped at the Jan. 28th taping will be aired this early. I'll let you know if this is what I saw ( when the Feb 5th show airs).

MOUNT VERNON NATIVE JOINS 'MADTV' CAST

MOUNT VERNON -- Bonnie Jerdon of Mount Vernon has been a fan of the popular Fox Television show "MADtv" for years, but now she has one more important reason to watch the show.

Her daughter, Crista Flanagan, is one of the newest members of the cast, and her first performance in the sketch comedy show will be aired tonight on Fox.

"She's always had a sense of humor and was always a performer," Jerdon said.

Flanagan, 28, graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1994 and attended University of Evansville where she studied theater, then moved to California to get her master's of fine arts degree in drama and theater.

She got her start in stand-up comedy with several shows and wrote her own material for several of her own performances.

Jerdon said Flanagan has been performing since she was a little girl and had a gig in her elementary school's talent shows each year.

Robin Shook was on the high school drill team with Flanagan and said she's always had a good sense of humor.

"We just used to goof off together," she said.

Flanagan has had guest appearances on NBC's "ER" and ABC's "The Practice," as well as a role on MTV's "You've Got a Friend" according to her Web site.

"She's always had a real good comedy timing," Jerdon said.

Jerdon said she, her husband Harold and their daughter Sarah went to California to visit Flanagan during Christmas.

While they were there, Jerdon said Flanagan had her auditions for her role on "MADtv." She saw her daughter go through all the emotions of being excited about her good performance and the nervousness of having to wait for a call.

Finally, Jerdon said, they were having a little Christmas celebration when Flanagan got the call from her manager saying she got the part on the show.

"It turned into quite a celebration then," she said.

Jerdon said her daughter has been busy all week, with final rehearsals on Friday.

She'll only appear in one sketch in her first show, but the show did purchase four of the sketches she had written.

Although Jerdon is proud of her daughter and her accomplishments, she said she's still a Southern Illinoisan and likes to come back to Mount Vernon for the Cedarhurst Craft Fair as often as she can.

"We're starting to feel that (fame) as each new project gives her a little more recognition," she said.

Shook said she keeps in touch with Flanagan through e-mails. She doesn't see her that often, but she knows her high school friend is right where she ought to be.

"I knew she'd make it," she said. "She always loved to act and dance and cut up."

Also I saw the ER appearance. She played the girlfriend of some junkie that like dislocated his shoulder or something.


She did alright, she's got a high voice.
