Default MAD Magazine...

I'm curious as to how many people here are into MAD Magazine. After all, it is the inspiration for our favourite TV show. I'm a big fan, I was buying before the show (on and off) and I still am. There are a couple of MADtv issues I can think of, where the did a special on Gump Fiction using screengrabs from the sketch and there's one where they write little biographies for all the cast members (season 1). I'm at TAFE now, but I'll type up a couple of my favourites when I am at home.

than the australian one but its still funny to read though

Thumbs Up

I couldn't decide which ones to post so dammit, I'll do them all. Enjoy!

DAVID HERMAN was trained at the renowned Performing Arts High School, oddly enough, as a zoologist. Prior to MADtv, he landed parts on 'Spenser: For Hire' and 'Guiding Light', oddly enough, as a zoologist. His feature film credits include 'Born On The Forth Of July', 'Lost Angels' and several cameo appearances in movies shot by his parents with the video camera the recently purchased.

Sketch comedian, actress, and designer of the Stealth Bomber, NICOLE SULLIVAN's television credits include 'Herman's Head', and the yet unscreened 'Herman's Foot' and 'Herman's Butt-Crack'. She has performed both on and off Broadway, but never inside a theatre. In addition to sketch comedy performing, Nicole has done a fair amount of writing - mostly to her folks, asking for more money since MADtv pays lousy.

Comedian/actor/Midas Muffler salesperson PHIL LAMARR recently appeared in the hit feature film 'Pulp Fiction'. He also purchased tickets to see 'Waterworld' and 'Pocahontas'. His television credits include 'The George Carlin Show', 'Mad About You' and 'The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air'. His most important television credit is his ability to unscramble cable channels using a wire hanger and some tin foil.

DEBORAH WILSON began doing sketch/improv comedy as a hobby after she found stamp collecting 'too emotionally challenging'. She was such a standout talent, it lead to a professional career as a series regular on The Uptown Comedy Club. Her special skills include puppeteering and snake handling. The latter has been very useful in her dealing with the producers of MADtv.

ORLANDO JONES is no stranger to the FOX network. He is, however, a stranger to quality programming. He began his professional career as a staff writer for the hit TV show 'A Different World'. He went on to become co-producer for the show 'Sinbad'. He is ending his career by appearing in MADtv.

MARY SCHEER wanted to get into show business, but chose appearing on MADtv instead. She has appeared on 'Beverly Hills, 90210' and 'Quantum Leap', but her biggest TV credit remains charging a 32" Sony on her VISA card. She was born in Detroit, but relocated to Los Angeles when she couldn't find the return half of her economy airline ticket back home.

BRYAN CALLEN stunned critics and audiences alike with his fierce portrayal of Frankenstein. They were stunned because he happened to be performing in the musical 'Hello Dolly'. He has a recurring role on the daytime drama 'Another World', and recurring car payments on a Chevy Caprice. Bryan calls New York City his home, and calls his agent a parasitic crook. He holds a black belt in karate, so we well refrain from making any more jokes at Mr Callen's expence.

ARTIE LANGE worked as a logshoreman while he pursued an acting career. It was good training, as union rules dictated he ha dto 'act real busy' while actually not doing anything. From here he went on to sketch and improvisational comedy. Artie helped found the hot sketch group LIVE ON TAPE. He lives in Union, NJ and commutes to MADtv in Los Angeles daily. He already has 4 million frequent flyer miles.

I haven't read very much of MAD (probably 5 issues in all) but my favorite thing I've read was the Harry Potter book parody. I heard they came out with a movie parody, but I've only read the book one. It actually made me laugh out loud. Good job, MADmag.

Too bad MADtv doesn't have the same connections to the magazine it used to. Although, season 6 only had one animation (Jib Jab) while season 7 has had 3 so far (School House Rocks x2), (Candy Band)

I read it. I sometimes wish Mad TV would be more like the magazine.

I wonder why MADtv cut loose its MAD Magazine roots. In the first several seasons, there were posters of Alfred E. Neuman on the set, and during the intro, commercial breaks, the Spy vs. Spy & Don Martin segments, etc...

I never cared for the magazine but I have a pretty good idea of something everyone would like. I think the MAD magazines should have comic strip sketches. Like a comic strip about a stuart sketch that has been shown or Lorraine, etc. I think it would draw a lot more audiences this way.

I wonder if MADtv is even advertised or mentioned in MAD Magazine. It should be, IMO. It would be nice if they had cast bio's, cartoons from the show like MikeMcdonalGrl mentioned, cast interviews, previews of upcoming shows, etc. Heck, I'd buy it just for that. I might pick up a copy soon just to take a look whats inside.

Does it ever have any mentions about MADtv like HiVolt said? I can't believe I remembered this, but do they still have that tri-fold back cover thing?
