On a side note, I'd just like to say that I have finally joined Nemesis on the side of darkness that is AMD.

Or is that side of the light?

lol yep. Sorry Cag. Maybe when I'm next in the market for a CPU and AMD stops putting out sub-par chips (or is even still in business) I'll go back.

Create decrypted disc image with DVDFab Decrypter, load into Handbrake, rip to XviD.

Any of you nerds have a preferred captcha-breaking download manager? Not a fan of this JDownloader.

I don't. I just try to find whatever I'm downloading on mediafire. Pretty poor strategy, I admit.

That was my strategy as well until last night, when I was presented with the unenviable task of downloading 50 files only available on Hotfile. Since I'd like to be done by 2011, I finally took the plunge. It's dark and Java-y down here.

Write your own Use the decaptcher API, like $10 for 10,000 solves. Or just put up more shitty java software I guess :/

Ten years ago, I probably would've done just that. In fact, for quite some time now, I've been meaning to look into OCR libraries for, uh, various purposes, and based on what I've seen over the past 24 hours, they're available, they're plentiful, and they're far more accurate than I ever dreamed possible. I'll surely begin experimenting at some point, and down the road, that may, indeed, culminate in a simple download manager; in the meantime, though, these files will be done long before I have a working prototype, so... laziness wins again.

If it saves you some time, I had to look into this for a work thing at my old job. It all depends on the captchas you're trying to solve. For stuff like reCaptcha, I wasn't able to find any OCR stuff that could solve it *but* you can exploit third world countries for it. There's a service called decaptcher where you pay like $10 for something silly like 5000 decodes (plus refunds for ones they miss). I wrote a (pretty sloppy) ruby library for communicating with their service back then.

Yeah this probably isn't worth it. Just use the java thing.

Ah, but why pay for what you can get for free? I spotted two pieces of software in my travels called FineReader and AutoImager (which are surely available on the very sites I'm trying to crack), and the download manager I'm currently using (which is open source) solves rC, first attempt, about 80% of the time. I'm one Rapidshare download, one Java source port, or one launch of javaw.exe per captcha away from not having to fork out so much as a dime. And that's handy, given my distinct lack of dimes.

Anyway, definitely a waste of time for now, but once I have the framework in place, it'd be silly *not* to whip up something simple. Unless I'm able to get my hands on more RAM, that is, in which case, laziness will surely prevail yet again.

EDIT: Actually, just thought up a potential use for decaptcher. This may come in handy yet. Duly noted.

Is there a gift card or something to the Android Market? My dad just got a Droid, so I was thinking about getting him something like that for Christmas.

Also, does anybody know someone who has an Android device that DOESN'T have the market on it? I have a Velocity Micro Cruz Reader, and I'm trying to figure out how to hack it to get the market on it, but I've had no luck searching Google. It's a pain in the ass trying to find apps online.

From what I can tell, you cannot gift stuff through the Android Market right now.

I don't know about your second question. Didn't think there were any Android phones without Market out them. Sounds pretty silly.

There are actually quite a few that don't. Velocity Micro stated they didn't put the Market on it because of some sort of limitations... or something. Instead, they have their own market, which sucks because there's nothing in there.
