Exclamation Time 2 Sports!

Eight and a half years later, and we still don't have a general sports thread. Buncha nerds.

To kick things off, something I heard earlier tonight:

Commentator #1: Up 6-1 in the third, does Mike Babcock start resting his top players for the next series against San Jose?

Commentator #2: If you're Detroit and you rest your stars, you're gonna have about three players left on the ice.

Just a little taste of what you're in for in the coming weeks, Vancouver fans.

But wait, there's more! If you haven't yet seen the greatest press conference of all-time, you MUST. We ain't even talkin' 'bout the game!

I've always been into sports, but I never talk about it on here because I just don't think any of you watch this, and the first comment by bw states this.

It states this because if bw even looked at the board, he would see that Vancouver is already going to face Chicago in the next round. But I guess that was hard to tell considering the first commentater said the next series was going to be against San Jose.

If you meant Vancouver would be facing Detroit in the confrence finals, don't bet on it, they will fail in the 2nd round like they do every year.

On the other hand, my Canadiens are on fire! Halak is awesome in net, and if he can do what he did against Pittsberg (although not likely), Montreal is going to the finals guarenteed. The only person betting that the Canadiens were going to win this series was a desperate gambler needed a big payout, but that looks like it's going to happen. It's great if the Canadiens can beat Washington because Ovie has just been a jerk, and if the Canadiens win, the post game press confrence for the Capitals coach (who I call Mike Duffy) will surpass your link bw as the greatest press-confrence of all time, because he is just going to go crazy!

Well the sports thread is now up, destined to become a page 20 thread 3 months from now.

Keeping in mind that I'm not retarded (even if my current avatar and caption suggest otherwise), this would be a safe bet. Perhaps I'm being overly optimistic about Vancouver's chances, but I'm just looking forward to rubbing shit in your faces SO MUCH! Because, after all, what good are sports if you can't make everyone you know feel like complete assholes for liking a different team than you do?

You are being overly optimistic. bw, I live in the Lower Mainland. I have seen people go crazy over this team, consider they are the only thing in life that matters, and give them preferential treatment over teams like the BC Lions who have actually won a championship, and won a championship in the last 10 years (actually 2, out of thier 5). Every year, they all say here and that they are going to win it every year (even the year they came in as the 8th seed), and every year they lose it in the first or second round, and this year it seems so reminiscent. Going to the second round against Chicago, the team that everyone is saying is going to win it all, it just looks like a matter of time.

Now, I must say that I am a bandwagon fan with the Canucks. If they ever won Stanley, I would cheer for the team for the rest of my life (and I don't have a bandwagon fan personality. I've was a fan of the Expos, the Grizzlies, and the Super Sonics, and they were all so bad that they moved away. I am tired of cheering for the losers!), but as of now, they are just one of the lone Canadian teams without a championship win (Ottawa doesn't count because they have only been in the league for 17 years, and have at least made it to the championship) that everyone cares too much about.

P.S. I can see in the future a debate over what league is better, CFL or NFL coming up on this site, with bw probably taking the side I'm against.

Canadiens win!!! I know they probably have no chance at beating Pittsburg, but still, to beat the Capitals, the President's Trophy winners, and to do it after falling 3-1, the Canadiens know that just doing that is great. Ovie is probably haunted now by the comment he made after game 2 in which he said Halak look "shaky". Well Ovie, was his hand shaking when he shook your hand at the end of game 7?

I don't think the Habs have a good shot at beating Pittsburg, but I will say that if they do beat them, they are going to the finals no matter what, because I don't see Boston or Philedelphia stopping them.

Well, I'll take your word, but I'm sure a certain someone will have something to say about that whenever he notices this thread exists. And then I'll rub shit in his face shortly thereafter.

P.S.: I'm saying Detroit's going to win it all, so, not everyone.

I could see that happening as well. But I don't care about football, so that's the last you'll hear from me on the topic.

And who would that be?

My heart says Montreal, but my brain says Pittsburgh. I do hope it's Montreal though because a Stanley Cup that has only two good teams in it that you don't really cheer for like Detroit and Pittsburgh is always a little more boring. I mean, Calgary Tampa Bay a few years ago was much better than last years.

Well that's a relief, because I would have gone ape with points if you were against my side (I won't say which side, just in case the argument springs up somehow).

Psh. If Detroit doesn't win, I'll accept Pittsburgh. Any other team, and I'm chalking it up to sheer luck.

Still don't know. Is it someone on here or someone outside of here? Why won't you tell me!!! Remember, I wasn't here in the early days so I don't know the patterns of the older members.

Traitorous dog.

tvman you need to l2facebook. I yap about the Canucks all the time on there. This is pretty much my first year of being a hockey fan though so I'm blissfully ignorant of the reality of the situation. Still, the Blackhawks got ripped in the first game.

I would also like to say that I really hate that ALL hockey games get scheduled for when I'm in class.

Well the Canucks have been eliminated. I told you all this would happen, only now they have the satisfaction in knowing that they sucked worse than last season. Now the Canadiens will be Canada's team, and the difference between them and the Canucks is that the Canadiens will last an extra day, and if they lose tomorrow at least it won't be so bad because they weren't even suppose to be anywhere close to that. Way to go Canucks, you have proved your failure again.

I will, because no one expected the Canadiens to make it as far as they have, while everyone expected the Canucks to win it all, which was as possible as unicorns flying through the sky and shitting rainbows.

What did I tell you all! What did I tell you all!!! Canadiens are moving to the Confrence Final! Canada's team, and the team of destiny! Canadiens failure no, but Canucks failure predicted and definate! In the face of the doubters, and with the MVP of the playoffs in Jaro Halak, Canadiens are the team of destiny. Now it's the Confrence, and soon the Finals!!! Go Canadiens Go!!!

Yeah, that was to consoul all your bleeding hearts at least for a day. I knew they could do it, but I just didn't think it would be that convincing. Canucks fans are still losers, and it looks like they will be carrying that moniker for a long time.

Also, that modesty that I showed is a common trait among Canadiens fans. We realize our place and know that were lucky to be where we are.

I thought I was going to stop watching after the Canucks got eliminated but now I'm going to make sure I watch the Canadiens games so I can be around here the moment when you realize you're not taking home the cup.
