A couple points to make:

The cast this episode is a record low of 7 castmembers (tied with #1414). Some S1 episodes didn't include Artie, but even those were officially listed with 8 castmembers.

This DEFINITELY does not work with the credits. It really looked cheap and hacky, how some parts went normal speed and then the in-between shots went slow. Instead of doing that, why didn't they just take the S13 versions of the cast shots for everybody (like how Keegan's intro showed the entire background before zooming on him)? I'm pretty sure those would be long enough to cover. Or they could just have cut the ending of the song and they wouldn't have to change any of the visuals at all.

Also after watching this episode, I'm VERY disappointed that Erica and Eric never got the shot they deserved. Both of them were nothing short of amazing this episode.

Default My Review

Notes

I felt so sad not seeing Nicole in this. Not even in the credits.

Review

Taggers: This one wasn't as funny when I first watched it, but I felt it was funnier the next few times. The highlight in this sketch was Keegan. Some of the lines that he said that I love include "This ain't the Sistine chapel bitch and you ain't Pablo pinche Picasso ok." and "do yourself a favour, pick up a can, and spray the freakin wall!"

John Smith Preforms: This one wasn't that original. The highlight was Keegan when he would give the face, but of course it could not be seen.

eHarmony: When this aired I actually screamed. I am so sick of these. I know there cheap to do but come on. At least call them something different so it can run better. Again, I like the idea Lowered Expectations: The Meeting. As for the sketch, It wasn't that funny, and Crista's acting was that great in this one.

Johnny Gan: Thank God I won't ever have to see another Johnny Gan again. I've always hated Johnny. The highlight in this one for me was Pongo getting the tazer to the eye.

VMW X-8 #1: Not much to this one.

26th Annual AVN Awards #1: This one was definitely the best of the 3. The highlight for this one was Klaus saying that his agent told him "you have to do this script, yes you have to do it". I like to think that he was saying that is agent told him to masturbate with the script, because then that makes it funny.

VMW X-8 #2: This one was funnier than the first one. The highlight was Bobby, who I think had one of his best acting work this season. The look on his face was great.

Ribbon Cutting: I was so surprised to see this become a character. It was such a shock. I did like this one more than the first one. The highlight was Jamaal saying "oh please, please grace us with your damn eloquence".

26th Annual AVN Awards #2: I always love it when they make Bobby look as D-List of a celebrity as he is, and I love to see writers in sketches. Except for these 2 things, this one was pretty bla.

26th Annual AVN Awards #3: This one really had nothing.

Automated Service: Ok. The highlight was Keegan saying that the phone was an offensive bitch.

Cottage Life with Carol and Jill: Best sketch of the night. I did feel a little sad for Edward when Carol said yes to Jill. The highlight was Edward grabbing his ring and getting the box thrown at him, because I really think Crista hurt him.

Sounds Like the 80's: Some of these were pretty creative. My favourite was Complete Astronomical Event of the Pulmonary Organ.

MADtv Extras: Johnny Gan Outtakes: This one was actually funnier than the sketch. The highlight was Bobby messing up Pongo's uncle's name.

Closing: Keegan Thanks a Very Special Guest: At least there was more to this closing than usual. And I did like the cast conga line.

Out of 75 stars this episode got 451/2. That's about a C- rating. This episode was a down play from the last few episode, and not the way they should be going out on.

Eh..this episode wasn't too good. It left a sorta sour feeling in my mouth. C'mon, MAD. I expected more out of you after #1412/1414.

Let's start with the crappy stuff. AVN Awards was shit. There, I said it. It was nigh near unwatchable. Crista was the only good thing about that "sketch". VMW was pretty bad, too. Those two sketches alone made this episode feel a little "S13" to me. The first half of this episode was probably the worst half of any episode this season so far.

Fortunately, the rest of the episode seemed awesome. Sounds Like The 80's was one of the best sketches this season. What an awesome sketch. Lmao. Cottage Life and Automated Service (we got a one-off too!) was also pretty great. Cerise's second outing and John Smith's stand-up garner a less zealous thumbs up, but a thumbs up all the same.

Anything else falls into the average category. Johnny Gan surprised me. I thought it would suck, but this was one of his better outings. And conga lines always deserve at least a passing mention, I guess--props to Arden for that.

Conclusion: First half gets 4.5/10, second half gets 8.5/10.

6.5/10
(Upper right corner, "Rate this thread").
MVP: Crista+++

(Thanks, Vero.)

Anyone got a torrent for this episode that doesn't cut out half the sketches for irrelevant commercials?

I think cottage life and the automated service were great. I also liked eHarmony but the rest was not very funny.

Hey, Erica got her first recurring character, and this time it was actually funny. But the episode wasn't that good, allthough I loved Cottage Life (Crista lying on the couch was great!). Eharmony and Automated Service were good. Other than that, nothing special.

Oh, and Nicole wasn't even on the opening credits. So no more of her

John Smith Performs

eHarmony

"sometimes i don't know he's in the room when he's right behind me." hehe

Johnny Gan #1-2
oh god, make it stop

VMW X-8 #1-2
nice point, i suppose, but i just found this to be kinda sad

26th Annual AVN Awards #1-3
ermmmmm, rather disturbing. but a star for johnny's emotional performance

Ribbon Cutting
i thought most of the jokes were just awfully lame, but the moment of silence and "i thought you were dead" was funny

Automated Service
lmao. this was great. ow!

Cottage Life with Carol and Jill
almost as good as the first one. i died laughing when crista laid on the couch. lmao @ her throwing the ring box at johnny and punching the cake! i'm so happy for jill

Sounds Like the 80's
amusing, but mostly just one joke a bit overdone. "complete astronomical event of the pulmonary organ"

yay, conga line!

Poll posted. I merged the Johnny Gan and the extras together for space reasons.

I was also surprised to find that Erica wrote 2 sketches in this episode. The Ribbon Cutting one, and the Automated service one.

THIS is how you do for one of your final episodes, MADtv?

The show's not even halfway over, and I'm about to go...

From what I saw of this episode it was a downturn from previous weeks. Come on, MAD! Step it up! Only 2 more!

I was very happy with tonight's episode. Crista was perfect in Cottage Life, as expected. Johnny Gan did have its moments... actually the out-takes were much funnier than the real thing.

The opening credits sure are getting empty...

I also noticed about this episode that only the car sketch, and the AVN sketch were parted. Excluding the AVN sketch that needed to be parted they didn't overpart things tonight. I want to see that for the rest of the time.

johnny gan was just as awful as i expected. i didn't care much for a lot of the sketches, but

i liked johnny's spray painting, keegan's phone conversation, and eric's creepiness (no, i don't mind the eharmony sketches, as long as they don't suck, and i thought this one was pretty good). and crista in the cottage sketch was just the greatest so i can't help but to be content with this episode

You know what I just realized. Unless one of the porn stars were actual people there were no celebrity impressions done tonight.

Also, newt007 you haven't been watching up to now? For shame!

Also guys, who here thinks that MAD is going a little too crazy with the eHarmony sketches? I mean excluding the Michael McDonald episode, this is like the 3rd or 4th straight episode where they have done that. Will they just kill it already!

This was an average episode. But it did seem a lower quality than the last few episodes. I will go into a longer review later as usual.

It will take me till probably tomorrow to get the poll up so be patient.
