Default What is giving the show high ratings?

I'm just wondering what is getting MADtv any ratings whatsoever anymore. When the show first started, the first three seasons wern't so hot in ratings, but high in quality. Then during season four, the Intensity sketch changed the show's style for the next two seasons. And Stuart became a household name. But season 6/7 lost a lot of hardcore, longtime viewers. When season 8/9 came and the show improved, Stuart was barely the buzz of this break-through show anymore. Instead, the show now focuses on gimmicks that made certain sketches successful years ago. That includes the repetative celebrity bashing, excessive gay jokes, stale pedophile jokes, and Connie Chung...So what is it that draws viewers into this show now a days?

Does the show get high ratings? I've never seen a ratings report on this show, so I don't know. Maybe it's just because it's an alternative to SNL?

My guess would be because of comedy central... people see, and people want more! Where did you find out it had high ratings Mad Dog?

The show is much more appealing to the teen audience now than it once was. And it's definitely more appealing to younger teens than SNL is.

OKay, the meaning of this thread has been mis-interperated. I haven't heard the show has high ratings. But Frank told me the show's ratings are the highest they have been in a while...and no show goes on for this long if it doesn't have the audience to watch it to begin with. What I want to discuss is what are the factors that are drawing in new audiences. Like a few years ago, Stuart and Ms Swan were spread by word of mouth to get people to watch. So what gets people hooked now a days. I really don't think it's any recurring character unless it's Dot maybe. As for getting bigger and better celebrities on. I actually think the guest stars they get do a good job but they are mainly D-list stars and unknowns from semi-popular TV shows. In the early seasons they got people like Whoopi, Rodney Dangerfield, Phyllis Diller, Halle Berry, Mark Hamill etc...huge legends. Some of these people went on to be Acadamy Award winners. The in season 5, 6 they got people like Drew Barrymore, Susan Sarandon, Regis Philbin, Seth Green etc...huge stars. I guess because that's when MADtv was all the breakthrough hype. But now we get people I have never heard of except David Arquette (who isn't new to the show) and sort of big stars like Kathy Griffin and Tom Bergeron. I think if MAD got at least two or three really big names a season, then it would make up for LL Cool J and Westside Story, errrrr. Too many D-list stars make the show seem too cheap.

It would be cool if we were informed of how the show does in the ratings. I've searched and searched, but all I can find are Primetime Ratings. The only site I know of that does ratings is zap2it.com but I can only find primetime averages. Does anyone else know of any other sites???

I sent an email to Nielsen Media Research, asking if there are sites that do non-primetime ratings.

I was reading an article on Variety, and it said that only twice in history did Madtv achieve higher ratings than SNL, once of those two times being the 200th episode which had more viewers than an original SNL episode being shown at the same time.

Most likely just old-school MAD fans. The 200th episode was HEAVILY publicized in local papers and magazines in my town.

Are you kidding? MADtv rarely EVER gets any really mainstream celebrities to guest star.

I don't know, but I think that the reruns on Comedy Central are going to do wonders for MADtv's ratings on FOX.

Here's the info I got from Nielsen media. Even though what they sent wasn't good news, at least whoever emailed me took the time to do some research for me (unless they get asked this alot, which is a possibility) So I'm going to email them back and say thanks for your help.

Quote:
I'm sorry, the Nielsen Media Research information you've requested is available only by subscription. Our clients use that data to make their business decisions about program schedules and ad rates.

Nielsen Media Research makes some ratings data available to the media for the public use.
Check our website www.nielsenmedia.com
The ratings for broadcast network prime time are provided each week and regularly appear in the Wednesday edition of "USA Today" and numerous local newspapers.
The website <www.zap2it.com> lists the top prime time programs of each week.
Also, "Variety" magazine usually posts ratings trends in their
weekly printed edition, and this publication has been writing about television since the early days of TV. Historical issues of "Variety" can be found in your local library.
To find the top prime time programs of each season you could check "The Complete Directory To Prime Time Network TV Shows 1946-Present" by Tim Brooks and Earle Marsh in your local library or bookstore.
You may find the top network telecasts of all time in most yearly
Almanacs, such as "Information Please Almanac" and "The World Almanac".

Thanks again for your interest and I hope this helps you locate the information needed.

Yes I used to just email Frank. But I don't anymore. I guess because I used to ask him EVERYTHING about MADtv and he thought I used and abused him just for that purpose so I don't think he likes emailing me. So he barely says anything in his responces. Once he emailed me out of the blue and gave me a kinda lippy lecture (that could be me misinterperating his tome) about the false rumours going around on this site and how we lost respect with the MAD cast and crew over it. That's partly why I got really upset with all of you a few months ago
