Since I have the season 1 DVD set, I've decided that I am now going to summarize all of the season 1 episodes. I know they won't be in sync with the other summarized episodes but in my mind I think summarized episodes are better than what we got now so if they can be done I will do them. Along with these I will also supply my review for each episode in order to draw all of you in.

Cast Search: A great way to open the greatest show ever. I think this is how MADtv got all of their cast members. Although why was Artie clearly playing the president and the cross guard in this. Also, why was Bryan not in this, but Craig was. Couldn't they have given his role to Bryan? A great sketch to start off the best show ever. The highlight was

The Cast of MADtv #1: MADtv here was executing the executive decision. Get the audience drunk and I'll keep them laughing. The highlight was the announcer introducing the cast. It was the beginning of something great.

Vud #1-Tongue: Alright. Not that funny. The highlight was of course the frog being slammed into the back of the truck.

Vancome Lady- Make-up Counter: The one that started it all. This was one of the most historic sketches ever done on the show, because it began one of MADtv's most truly beloved characters. Now the sketch wasn't that great, but because of it's historical significance, it get's a high rating. The highlight was Kathy saying that they don't specialize in blacks.

Ice Cube/Ice-T Video: This sketch was really good because I really think that this is true. So many rappers try to say that they have gone through so many hardships, but in there videos they usually have a lot of fly ladies, and cool gadgets, while they are being pampered. MADtv shows what they were going to be doing best for 14 years. Poking fun at something that could piss a lot of people off. The highlight in this for me was Craig in this sketch. I swear I don't know why they never hired him on.

News Report 911: Small but effective. The highlight was the news anchors reaction to it. It was so non-shalant.

Spy Vs Spy-Bomb [Animation]: This to me was one of the best Spy Vs. Spy's to me. I loved this from the magazine and the show. It was genius, but it would never really work like this. The highlight was of course the misplaced bomb dropping.

Don Martin- Camping [Animation]: As much as I liked Spy Vs. Spy, I never really liked Doc Martin. I just always thought they were usually a lead to one joke, and they were mostly a lame joke like this one. The highlight was the fact that probably the smallest zipper on the tent was the one that shut it.

Nicole's Monologue: I know a lot of people really like this one, but I did not like this one as much as her ejaculation mono in episode 105. Also, I didn't really get this one. It sounded like the entire audience was in on this joke except for me. The highlight for this one was Nicole saying "Run daddy run" because her face, and how she said it were both priceless.

Gump Fiction: This may very well be MADtv's first best sketch ever. This was a great sketch. The highlight was the line "A rich pallet of contemporary American morphing, as well as a lot of presidents getting shot". I love that line.

Spike Lee Red Devil Ham: Alright, but one of the more lower sketches of the night. Mostly because I didn't get it.

Kato Tells All: This probably wouldn't have been funny now, but I can see how it might have been funny back then.

Poison: Ok. Not the best but it was pretty funny. The highlight was David in the full body cast.

Dave's Monologue: Not the greatest, but it had it's moments. The highlight was David's face when he was going into kiss Mary. His tongue all out and all.

Spy Vs Spy- Pogo Stick [Animation]: Short but still sweet. The highlight was White Spy getting his revenge.

Second Hand Cancer: Funny. The highlight was Jewel saying goodbye to her cigarettes. "Mmm, mama's going to miss you babies".

Debra's Monologue: Debra expressing herself. She said she was going to be silenced, but really I don't think she was silenced on this show. At least not that much. The highlight was Debra censoring her own damn self.

MacDumpsters: I'm not really sure if this was of the times. It was still funny. The highlight was when the announcer says "Every day, more and more people are waking up to MacDumpsters".

Don Martin- Out of Gas [Animation]: Again, I didn't like Doc Martin that much.

Artie's Monologue: I did like the little twist on this one calling it a message from the presidents anti drug council, and it was good but not great. The highlight was Artie going through all the people he has thought of while he was masturbating in the past week.

Deep Stain Nine: Not that funny. It went a little too long and was a little lame. The highlight was Phil moving his head whenever he talked.

Vud #2- Watch Out: Not that funny, and a little too repetitive.

The Cast of MADtv #2: Alright. The highlight was Phil's Lincoln. "I'm the president of the United States". It wasn't accurate, but it was funny.

Out of 120, this episode got 73 1/2. That's about a C. A good way to start, and a way that really let me know they could get better, and hit a really great stride.

After a lonnnggg time of searching for the DVD with no luck, I FINALLY found the Season 1 DVD at Barnes and Noble today. So, why not review the first episode?

Cast Search: This wasn't "OMG I CANT CONTROL MY LAUGHTER IM FALLING OFF THE COUCH" funny, but it was an amusing way to start off 12+ great seasons of MADtv. (Ok, 11+ great seasons - because Season 7 sucked too much for me to pretend it was great. ). Anyway, like I said, this wasn't roll-on-the-floor hilarious, but it was a cute way to open the show and amusing nonetheless.
Vudweiser #1-#2: The first one was meh. The second was kind of funny, but on the whole they were nothing special.
Vancome Lady: Make-up Counter: Vancome Lady in her debut is just as funny as she is in nearly all of her sketches IMO - this was, as usual, hilarious. While she wasn't QUITE as established here as she was in later sketches (even the 109 Mall Santa sketch), this was still very good for a debut recurring character sketch.
Music Video: Ice-T & Ice Cube "It Ain't Easy Being Me": This was pretty boring, nothing truly hilarious about it, but not awful.
Vancome Lady: 911 Operator: Short and sweet...another great installment from the Vancome Lady.
Spy vs. Spy: I'm probably in the minority, but I never was a huge fan of the Spy vs. Spy sketches.
Don Martin: Pretty good.
Nicole Sullivan's Monolauge: This was EXCELLENT. EASILY the best sketch of #101. Nicole rocks, and this is proof. The first 5-star MADtv sketch ever!
Gump Fiction: This was pretty good. Interesting concept, not totally carried out as well as it could've been, but not bad.
Kato Tells All #1-#3: ...1995 humor that I have no idea what's going in, I'm guessing? No rating.
Spike Lee Red Devil Ham: I don't remember this at all for some reason, so I'm gonna go with no rating.
MTV's Spend A Week With Poison Contest: I really liked this for some reason. The humor was kinda dated (especially since MTV is no longer about music), but I still liked it.
David Herman's Monolauge: I think all of the monolauges were awesome in this ep, and this was no exception. Mary and David make a great duo, the first "dynamic duo" MADtv had.
Second Hand Cancer: This is the only Mrs. Barone sketch I like. Even if it's kinda gross, it's still funny nonetheless. Cast performance (especially from Mary) mainly saves these sketches, but this one had some good writing to boot. Poor Nicole though.
Debra Wilson's Monolauge: Like I said, all of the monolauges were awesome. I'd rate this 2nd, behind Nicole's.
MacDumpsters: Funny concept. Pretty funny sketch overall, nothing excellent, but amusing.
Star Trek Deep Stain Nine: Eh, this was probably the weakest sketch of the episode. It was just kinda boring and blah.
Artie Lange's Monolauge: The weakest monolauges IMO, but still awesome.
Close: Beer All Gone: This was pretty funny for what it was. The first episode and already the cast is connected.

Overall: This was kind of an up-and-down episode. Still, for the show's first EVER, it was very good. Also, the ups mostly outweighed the downs I think. The monolauges were the highlight, and Vancome Lady was funny, and the lowlight was probably Star Trek and....*gulp*...Spy vs. Spy. Overall, this was a strong premiere and one of the stronger episodes of Season 1.

8/10

my library's pretty lame here. they dont carry anything like that. I dont think legality is too big of an issue in this case for me. I dont see any difference between me viewing a downloaded sketch from the web compared to me recording the sketch on a vhs tape and watching it over again. Legality issues would come from someone attempting to make a profit on the sketch. I just want it for personal enjoyment. =) I love reminiscing on memories from the past. Thank you very much for the information however. =)

anyone know where i can find this sketch?

Hello, boys and girls, welcome to "MADtv" 101; I am Prof. Mizzi Mad. Today, we will be discussing the very first ep of "MADtv" and its influence on contemporary society. Now, before we get started, Melissa, get rid of the gum, young lady; we've had this talk before. Philcosby, I will wipe that smirk off your face permanently if you don't stop, young man. HiVolt, we all know how proud you are of your autographed Nicole Sullivan pics, but I want them out of sight...now, mister! All right, Jim Cockhurtz, that's the last spitball--you march yourself to Mister E's office right now! Potora, go with him to make sure that he doesn't take a detour to the restroom. Eyes on me, folks...right up here. Theeeeeere we go.

*Mizzimad wakes up from his horrid nightmare.*

Whew, what happened? Oh, God, I gotta remember not to put banana peels in my apple bong ever again. O.K., well, for those of you who are still brave enough to pay attention, here's my take on "MADtv" 101--the episode, not the aforementioned Alfred E. Neuman Univ. course. Hmmm, well, as much as I've come to cherish the first 2 seasons of "MADtv," I have to admit that ol' Alf E.'s debut ep is a bit of a hit-and-miss affair. *Diehard fans who swear by the first season reach for their torches and machetes.* However, the good news is that the hits do indeed outweigh the misses. At least I think so; then again, I'm an uberdoof, so.....

First, the bad news: (1) Kato Kaelin's bit is veeeeeeeeery obvious and therefore not veeeeeeeeery funny. (Someone loves repeated vowels.) (2) While the Ms. Barone bit w/ Nicole is quite funny and well performed, those who gross out easily should consider themselves duly warned. (3) A couple of sketches--the "Star Trek" bit and the Gump Fiction movie parody--sound funnier than they actually are. (Better parodies were to come!) (4) Three "Spy vs. Spy" cartoons are about two too many for yours truly. I prefer the "Don Martin" bits, but that's just me, I guess. (5) I love Diva Debra to death, but her monologues have never been my fave Deb moments. Give me Bunifa, Oprah, and Ms. Sylvia; or give me...uh...well, not death.

<--Hey, hey, I saw that, philcosby. Does somebody want a trip to Mister E.'s office? I didn't think so. Anyhoo, where was I? Oh, yeah, huh huh...

O.K., now for the pluses: (1) The Vancome Lady bits, predictably enough, are hilarious if somewhat tame compared w/ the much less p.c. Vancome sketches that would follow. (2) The Vudwiser and McDumpster commercial parodies are right on the money. (That means they're good, dumbass!) (3) The "cast search" and cast opening are very entertaining, esp. the former, during which Nic and Deb make their debuts in Alfredville as hookers--hardly befitting future "MADtv" royalty, eh? (4) Artie's and David H.'s monologues LITERALLY kick ass. (Thx to Nic & Mc, I LITERALLY can't get this word outta my head...lol.) (5) Nicole's monologue about her rather disturbing intro to MAD magazine more than lives up to its rep as one of THE legendary Sully moments in Alfredville. BTW, if you've never heard the lips-barely-moving neurotic voice that Nic uses in this and a couple of later sketches, then don't you dare call her overrated until you've heard it--it's LITERALLY (AAAAAARGH!) to die for! As for those of you who've heard the voice and still think she's overrated...um...well...I, uh...I guess it's okay if you still call her overrated. I'll hate you for the rest of your life, but...hehehehehe...whatever....

God, I love ellipses...they come in handy...quite often...ya know.

Anything I've left out of the above rant falls into the "just okay" category for yours untruly. However, "okay" isn't bad; it's okay, okay? Therefore, heretofore, two-by-four, and quoth-the-raven-"nevermore," all things having been considered and weighed in truly *ahem!* scientific fashion, I give "MADtv" 101 a 4/5 rating.

Class dismissed b/c tchaaaaaa, it's time for me to shut the f**k up anyway. Your homework: to ignore all of the above. Ah, an easy assignment for a change!

I just saw 101 on thursday. I can safely say Mad TV was a lot different when it first aired. It was better then it is now. I loved the Vancome lady sketch and the Vancome 911 sketch. I really miss Nicole and Phil.

this was a good episode to say it was their first... That "real MAD kid" (from the mag) that they kept showing (like on the side of the street, and in the washing machine)... He really freaked me out. I dont know why, but he did .

Again, I know its their 1st episode, but the opening credit theme was not my favorite. My favorite is the one that they use now (seasons 8-9)

Default Re: WHO/WHAT 101

Hmm I haven't done a review in a little while. I think it would be appropriate to do one for the first episode ever!

Cast Search: I loved this! If I remember correctly, All That did something similar to this in one of their season openers. Still, this was great, hah I liked how Debra and Nicole were prostitutes . Why wasn't Bryan Callen included in this? 5/5

Cast Open: This was great! 5/5

Vud #1: Tongue: Haha! This was so awesome! The frogs looked so real! How did they do this? It didn't look like animation. 5/5

Vancome Lady: Make-up Counter: I enjoyed this very much. You can tell that Nicole didn't fully develop the character yet, but it's ok, because she was still very good. 5/5

Music Video: Ice-T & Ice Cube "It Ain't Easy Being Me": Gahh... This was pretty boring.. But it was a good music video I guess. 3/5

Vancome Lady: 911 Operator: Oh my God this was so funny! Haha! Great idea! 5/5

Spy Vs Spy: Bomb: I will now rate every single Spy Vs. Spy the same thing. 5/5 Because I love them dearly and I love reading it in MAD magazine too. The animation was such good quality back then, too.

Kato Kaelin Reminder #1: Nahh.. I won't rate the reminders because I don't really count it as a sketch, IMO. But still it was a waste of time. And who is that person anyway?

Don Martin: Camping: It was okay, the thing I enjoyed most about it was the quality of the animation of course.. I shall rate all of these sketches 4/5.

Nicole Sullivan's Monologue (Nicole): Go Nicole! Hehe she's funny and I liked all the things she was doing. 5/5

Gump Fiction: Hehe this was okay, but I think it dragged a little bit too long. 4/5

Spike Lee Red Devil Ham: Ahh.. this was alright I guess. 3/5

Kato Kaelin Reminder #2: Yawn. Thats all I have to say.

Kato Tells All: Still don't know who this is.. boring. Waste of time. 0/5

MTV's Spend A Week With Poison Contest: This was funny! Hahaha! Pretty basic idea, but you have to remember that this was in 1995, .

Dave Herman's Monologue: I happened to enjoy this. Haha they made a pretty good team up there. Good idea too. 5/5

Spy Vs Spy: Pogo Stick: 5/5 like I said.

Second Hand Cancer: Wow this was a good idea now. It was pretty short too. If SNL did this sketch, they probably would have dragged it on for another 2 minutes. 5/5

Debra Wilson's Monologue: BEST MONOLOGUE OF THE NIGHT! Man that was good! GO DEBRA! 5/5 Extra Credit: 2 points.

MacDumpsters: Good premise. At first I thought it was a Coffee Commercial Parody. LOL. 4/5

Don Martin: Out of Gas: 4/5

Star Trek Deep Stain Nine: Hehe.. All That did a bunch of sketches similar to these, which I enjoyed too. Debra and Nicole only had about two lines in this.. 4.5/5

Vud #2: Watch Out: Just as good as the other one! 5/5

Artie Lange's Monologue: Hehe, pretty good. 4/5

Close: Beer All Gone: The premise needed work, because why would the whole audience go if they were out of beer? Before he said that the audience was holding up their cups and they probably still had some. But it was ok overlooking that matter. 4/5

I loved this episode, I think I'm going to give it a 9.5/10 stars!
