I gotta say I actually liked the movie. That title of Cloverfield was something they had considered some time after the teaser trailer came out in July. I guess they chose it because it fits the whole aspect of codenaming an incident.

I'll admit that it had it's moments of intensity and parts where I jumped (I'll avoid spoiling for those who haven't seen it yet). The ending is something that couldn't be done differently the way NemesisDesign put it. People were only dissatisfied because it wasn't your average monster movie where they gave you all the information. And it's mostly teenagers who walk around whining and complaining being under the impression that movies such as Saw and Hostel are true horror flicks when they really aren't. Hooray for being jaded.

The whole point was to portray it from the eyes of your average joe--people who don't have any clue as to what's going on. Abrams intention was not to portray the event from the perspective of the scientists, or the military, or the government. Did anyone actually stay after the credits for the oh-so secret message that found it's way to youtube this morning?

Nobody really stayed around for the credits, myself included. I had a bunch of rowdy teenagers in my theater (during the opening scene some guy in the back kept going "I WANT TO SEE SOME VAGINA RIGHT NOW" ).

I think its usually a bad idea to put secret messages in the credits, especially for a movie that ended so abruptly. Abrams had to know people would just be leaving the theater right away after that. The only time I can remember staying around for a long time during credits was Grindhouse because I always suspect Tarantino to throw in something unexpected.

*******SPOILER ALERT********************

I stayed after until the end of the credits, and all you heard was a jumbled whisper..but I guess if you play it backwards, it says "It's Still Alive" soooo yeah I guess that means a sequel possibly? Or not, I don't know.

i watched it today
i stayed for the whole end credits cause i thought the extra stuff at the end was a clip, not a barely audible mumbling, lol.U see..i skipped what nik said cause i didn't want to ruin the movie
i was a bit sad though cause i had to pee halfway through the movie and this NEVER happens to me cause i always make sure to pee prior to the movie.so i missed about 4mins of the movie, wow

let me now rant

*SPOILER WARNING*

The part i left on was when they were in the subway and deciding if they should take the tunnels..when i get back all i see is those little spider looking things attacking them.ARGH.can i just say..i had NO idea about those things...i think the main monster was enough for the movie let alone the added thing of it spawning alien/spider things.
the monster itself..didn't really look like i imagined, lol.its kinda looked like if alien + predator + godzilla had a baby together and this was it going through its awkward gangly teen years, lol.
i agree thathaving the film in 1st person added to the intensity of the movie,i was sweating the whole time
I felt sick at the part where they show the shadow of marlena bursting..i think it was the visual + constant motion of the camera that made me feel ill.
Trish(gf) got motion sickness from the camera movement.it happens.
I lizzy caplan,shes gorgeous.
When they were in the helicopter i was "yaaay they're getting away, the things gonna die"
...how dare i be so optomistic

I don't know if i'm the only person, but near the start of the attack, when buildings are exploding and the statue of liberty head comes flying and people are covered in dust and hiding in the store watching the debris fly by...it felt eerily like some of the 9/11 footage that had come out soon after that attack.it cut a bit close to the bone for me.
maybe i'm a sook?

i didn't mind the movie overall though.not on my "totally love it" list, but i'd tell people to at least watch it once

You definitely aren't the only one that picked up on that. I've heard someone describe the movie as "9/11 porn" and also said that some people in the New York area had a difficult time watching some parts because they were so similar to 9/11 footage.

I'm wondering if any theatres in New York City refuse to show this film in the theatres.

i get why people would feel that way.9/11 didn't even happen on my soil, but seeing this movie still hit a nerve,so i can only imagine the effect it would have on people that lived through it.
It was only that initial part of the movie, before you actually see whats causing all the destruction, that was a bit..much.yeah

I could see where people could be reminded of 9/11 by that sequence, but for some people to deem it as the director "banking on 9/11's tragedy" is really far fetched I think.
I mean what else would happen if a building fell? No dust or debris? I think if 9/11 hadn't happened, it would have happened the same way..dust clouds come when things fall.

i don't think its banking in on tragedy, but it probably adds to the scariness of the situation in the movie, that we've seen a similar scene in real life...minus the gigantic mutated monster of course

Can i just say that one thing i did like about this movie was that it wasn't overly graphic for the sake of grossing people out(like all these gorno movies out and about these days) and that having stuff just out of view like...
*spoiler alert*

...marlena behind the curtain when she explodes or when they lift beth(i think that was her name) off of that rod she was impaled on..that this added to heighten the tension in the movie, simply because what we don't see,we fill in with our imagination and thats generally worse then any movie make up effect/cgi effect
Last thing...That lilly chick that got on the first helicopter...it got away unharmed, didn't it? i don't remember seeing that helicopter under attack

I'd like to think that Lily got to safety..but when Hud and company get into the second helicopter, they see a helicopter get flung at a building...so I dunno. I don't think it was Lily's at least I like to think it wasn't..lol

I never saw a helicopter flung at a building... when did that happen?

And I was watching for the creature to shoot from the heavens during that last prior recording, but I didnt see that either. DAMN, even when I know things in advance and look out for them, I still manage to miss them!

It's sad because all of the viral marketing that was invested into this film stopped a couple of days after the movie came out. The only recent news is that HASBRO plans on releasing a 14" tall replica of the monster with 2 inter-changeable heads, 10 parasites, and a Statue of Liberty head replica.
