Thumbs Up I love the Canadian Political System

Iīve always loved everything about politics and political parties.
On the other day I was on the Internet searching information about american and canadian political parties and I found some interesting information...

Marijuana Party of Canada http://www.marijuanaparty.com/ (letīs get high... )
Absolutely Absurd Party http://www.absolutelyabsurdparty.ca/
Parti Populaire des Putes (you must be j/k...) no web page available
Party of Citizens Who Have Decided to Think for Themselves and Be Their Own Politicians (British Columbia) http://www.geocities.com/partyofcitizens/
Work Less Party of British Columbia (Iīm sure they have good ideas )

I really love the canadians. They are a very liberal, democratic, open-mind and peaceful people and their political parties are so cool. Ellections in your country must be funny !

I believe it was the Green Party that got one seat. I voted for them, just so the other nutjobs wouldnt get my vote.

The Green Party has never gotten a seat, but did get 5% of the vote. One Independent Candidate, (a popular former Tory MP who lost his nomination to run again) No "Other" Party has ever gotten into power except at the provincial level. The Parti Quebecois (a seperatist party) has won in Quebec. The Social Credit (a far right leaning provincial Reform Party) has won in Alberta. The New Democrats (socialists) have won in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and (once, and hopefully NEVER again) in Ontario. The only parties to ever rule Canada are the Liberal Party and the Progressive Conservative Party. Those other parties are just "cause" parties and only stand for single issues. Rarely, they will win a seat in Parliament (likely only because of the candidate).

As for Canada being a "liberal" nation, I wouldn't say that, and I'm not sure why you think that. That would be nice for the Liberal Party if everyone believed it, thankfully we don't. We are considered "peaceful" because the Liberals slashed our military funding so deep we can no longer participate unless in Peace Keeping missions (we can't even defend ourselves without help from the USA). We've actually been involved with every big war in some way (being a member of NATO). I think what you mean by "liberal" is that we are socially moderate. Same sex marriage is legal in some provinces, we are usually first to grant certain rights, etc...That's not just the Liberal Party, but the Conservatives too. I'm actually a member of the party...check out THIS website...

Who won the recent Canadian election? Are they left or right? I heard something about it on the radio a few weeks ago but I never heard the result.

Ooh, a zombie for Prime Minister, that should add some spice to parliament.

Opposition Leader: How does the Prime Minister respond to the allegations that he is, in fact, nothing more than a decaying corpse?
Prime Minister: (drooling) Brains, need delicious brains...

Well polling was showing that because of the Sponsorship Scandal, the Liberals were going to be shown the door. However, during the election, the Conservatives made too many mistakes (candidates making controversial remarks, a memo saying "Paul Martin supports child pornography", etc...) and they lost their chance to form a minority government just within the last ten days. But because they only won 135 seats (20 less to form a majority, meaning over 50% of the seats), there is going to be another election within a year or two. The Tories lost because they were too new and had little time to prepare and go to election boot camp and have a policy convention.

Yes I am involved with the political process, are you? I am a leading member of a youth association (in my riding) and am going to start my own Think Tank to come up with ideas to win over different groups that don't traditionally vote for our party.

By the way, I will talk about MADtv when there is something about it to talk about!

Not yet...I need to get some name recognition and get out there in the community (ie School Board Trustee, Town Councillor). And besides, my MP and MPP are both Conservatives (Mike Chong, Ted Chudleigh) so I ain't gonna push them aside to run!

When I say that the Canadians seem to be a liberal people, it has nothing to do with the Liberal Party. What I wanted to say was that I think that most Canadians donīt act and think as "fascist assholes", "racist", "xenophobian (letīs blame the immigrants for everything bad)", "anticommunist paranoids", "war lovers" like most americans (not all americans, thank god). I think that most canadians should be proud of the fact that their army only participates in Peace Keeping missions and not attacks independent countries just because their president and his close and powerful friends want. But this is just my personal point of view. I respect yours. I hope you (and the other members)respect mine.
