my very first gaming "console" was a commodore 64..that was pretty awesome back in the day.but i'm all for old school fun over realism.I think thats why the wii has proven to be so successful cause its easy to access for a non-gamer and is a new way to interact for people who have been gaming their whole lives.
Nem,i know how much you hate the wii,but you're just gonna have to accept not everyone wants better graphics, faster machines and...non-sensor controls?

Ugh thats the argument I hate hearing the most when it comes to video games. Good graphics and fun are not mutually exclusive. You go ahead and have a blast acting like a dancing alien playing Boogie, I'll be enjoying Half Life 2 episode 2 and Portal thanks

ugh no...boogie has been a mass disappointment for me.i'm gonna try hike my copy asap
So i don't think it always works...and i totally agree that great graphics and a more hardcore game can = fun too
I guess it depends what kind of games you're in to
For me,my all time fave game is GTA...all of them.even back when it was top down view.Other then that,i really like sports games(basketball, baseball, gridiron mainly)
I've never been into halo,half-life,resident evil...none of those kind of action adventure type games...but thats just me and my tastes

Here's your once-in-a-lifetime chance to peep my phat skateboarding skills, yo:This is the point at which I'd typically make another stupid comment, but I seem to have run out of skateboarding lingo.

Well, you'd think there wasn't much else that could be done with skateboarding after the 79th Tony Hawk game, but Skate puts a simulation twist on the genre using a Fight Night-esque control scheme. Oddly enough, the left analog controls your body, the right analog controls your board, and there are no flip trick, jump, or grind buttons to speak of -- it's all you! The whole idea sounded awfully ridiculous to me at first (and *seemed* awfully ridiculous the first time I played), but once you start nailing 720 tailgrab backflips and rail-to-rail transfers without relying on buttons and pre-canned animations, it becomes a very, very rewarding experience. Frankly, the two games can't even be compared -- both stand on their own, and I'm definitely making room for both on my rack.

Oh, I have no doubt you'll begin saving for a 360 after you read this:

http://gamernode.com/News/4628-GTA-I...360/index.html

I'll mark my calendar for Q1-Q2 2008. Be there with me or be square!

Metal Gear Solid 4. I need to figure out some god damn way I'll be able to play that game without buying a PS3 or going to jail.

Eh, there's probably going to be an expanded port made for the XBOX 360...or, their better be. Because that's what I plan on getting soon.

I seem to be all alone in this feeling, but I don't understand the appeal of those games at all. If you have the overpowering urge to press buttons to a beat, Amplitude has been out since 2003; if you actually want to have *fun* while pressing buttons to a beat, DDR has been out since 1998; if you can't have fun pressing buttons to a beat unless those buttons come in the form of guitar frets, real guitars have been out since the dawn of time. Call me crazy, but I, for one, would sooner spend my gaming time gaming and my guitar time honing an actual skill.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Sustenance -- coming to an Xbox 360 near you 6-12 months after the PS3 release, just like virtually everything else this generation (except, usually in the other direction). With development costs being what they are nowadays, console exclusives, apparently, are no longer financially feasible.

On a related note, here's a little something for the Americans:

I played the skate demo and it was alright. I was bad at it but at least it was new. I think I might prefer Tony Hawk simply because I see skate as a sim-skate (much like GT or Forza is a sim racer) and I prefer the more arcade type games.

I hope but really doubt we will see MGS4 on 360 ever. I think Konami is serious about this exclusive. I only see a few reasons to get a PS3 and they aren't released yet. I am pretty sure I will get a PS3 at some point when the price is lower, and that might not be too far away considering how many times the price has dropped/new, cheaper SKU's have been released.

Nem: PC game recommendation, stat. Something that'll run in 1600x1200 on an FX5700, and something that has nothing to do with Half-Life.

Well, I could give you a rec of...Freelancer?

Or maybe Civilization 4. It'll (barely) run on a computer with an MX420, but that kind of game is more demanding on how much RAM you have, rather than GFX performance. I'd say if you have 1GB of memory, you should be fine.

I just don't get people who bash the Wii... its fun! I like it..

we had an N64 and I loved The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time... And Super Smash Brothers! Those games were so much fun...

This past summer we got a Wii... and Twilight Princess! Awesome game! I love the Zelda series and I can't wait for the next release for the Wii... there better be one...

Also, can't wait until Super Smash Bros Brawl comes out!! Pit looks really cool... and I also like to play as my favourites Link and Yoshi! it looks like they even have a storyline together in the single player adventure mode too, so that will be sweet!!

But yeah, what does everyone have against the Wii? *cough*Nemesis*cough*

Wii looks like tons of fun, but I don't know anyone who has one, and I'm surely not going to buy one myself. It's the only console newer than SNES/Genesis that I'm interested in.

I should've also mentioned "no sci-fi".

I consider getting into Civ again from time to time, but now isn't the time. Something more mindless, preferably.

Oh, my problem with the Wii is that...where are the games???? All I see is the Legend of Zelda, Metroid Prime 3, and...um...a bunch of half-assed gimmicks. The Wii has LOADS of potential - too bad only a handful (a small handful) of its games are actually worth a damn.
