I really like The Dandy Warhols but their performance on MAD was very...off. It sounded like they didn't have their mics plugged in and it was very... 5th grade garage band. Maybe it was a bad night, maybe they just blow live, I dunno.
But if this is the first time seeing them, I suggest you check out some studio tracks because they are quite good. __________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets punched in the throat. ------------------------------- Morgan & Nik - Nocturnal Twins Forever ------------------------------- "Tacocat is spelled the same backwards and fowards!" 1103 = Bad.
Musical Performance = I can't find the words to describe how bad. Only thing that was funny was the opening Kanye West thing, and parts of the Angela sketch. The rest, absolute hogwash, like that Bobby & Jordan thing. __________________ |

I didn't really like this episode. Angela was okay, but most of the material this week was kind of weak. I especially didn't like the NFL on FOX sketch and Frank reprising his Bush impression. Just dumb.

This episode left a lot to be desired.
My review, not in order at all. Intro with Bobby Lee and Kayne West: Jordan looked like Kayne, I guess. Can't say much about the impression, just because I haven't seen much of him. The whole "I can't read" and Bobby's "I can't drive" was lame. Locked in the Cupard: I'm going to review all three in one. Bad. Either Jordan's R. Kelly singing is bad, or it's just his. It had it's moments, but I'm not going to sit through it again. Angela: One of the better sketches of the night. Not great in terms of Angela, but the supporting cast was great. Eric Balfour and Ike: Just a bad sketch in general. Jordan did it justice in the end George Bush w/ Bobby Lee: I don't even remember what the sketch was about. The best part was the whole "Your Connie Chung impression is racist" followed by something along the lines of, "No, that's just a really bad impression." 24 with Bobby Lee (feat. Jordan): Shouldn't have continued this sketch. Not as good as first one. Did I see his Nicole Parker shrine at times? I could have sworn I saw a picture of a woman surrounded by candles. Eric Balfour Sketch: What was this? American ignorance? I guess that's what it was. Can't say much. It was okay. Dandy Warhols Performance: I had to switch over to SNL during this. I'm just not a fan of that kind of music. ABC Commander in Chief: Ah, good ol' fashion sexist remarks. NFL Sketch: One of the better sketches of the night. Arden continues to impress, and not because of wearing that Jessica Simpson-esque outfit. Can't say enough about her. Final Grade: C+ Too much Bobby Lee and Jordan Peele. Way too much. Not enough Nicole Parker, Crista, and Keegen. Michael McDonald didn't even appear in this episode, if I'm not mistaken. The Prince must have had royal duties to attend to. |

I actually liked this episode. The Rolling Stones thing was good (Mick Jagger shaking his ass at this age terrifies me). The R. Kelly bits were the highlight for me. The actual videos annoy the hell out of me.

This episode was horrendous. It was absolutely terrible. The only sketch that redeemed this episode was the Angela one, which was excellent, and that's no good because Stephnie is leaving. They had better improve, because this season has been pretty consistantly bad so far, if you ask me.
Why do they rely so much on Bobby Lee? He was in nearly every sketch and not one of them was good. The Trapped in the Cupboard was okay, but after three of them it was just dumb and boring. The Bush sketch was kinda funny, but they've been using that character way too much. The rest was to terrible to even mention. I invited my friends over who usually love MADtv and we were all pretty much in awe of how bad it was. The writing has gotten worse and worse and the impressions just weren't that hot either. They have gotten so cheap that 1/2 of the sketches aren't even real sketches. They had 3 sketches filmed on the main stage with no set, one filmed at Bobby Lee's house, 3 music videos on basically the same set, one with just a voiceover over a background picture...it's getting more and more obvious how cheap they are getting. It was pretty bad. I watched a little bit of SNL last night and what I saw was great. "Girls Gone Wild: Katrina" was hilarious! I'm really hoping MADtv will improve as the season goes on. __________________ Matt (the OTHER one) "If you want to be a better actor - a better lawyer, doctor, teacher - anything - be a better human being." ~ Debra Wilson |

I think I agree with the majority here. This episode was dismally bad. The Angela sketch was the highlight of the night, in my opinion. The "Trapped in the Cupboard" videos were funny, but after the second one, I switched to SNL. I was amazed at how much both Bobby and Jordan were featured in this episode. The 24 sketch was definitely not as frivolous as the first one. Alright, so Jordan keeps annoying Bobby, then they become friends, then they get mad again.....there's only so far you can go with that plot and I think they went a little too far. The Dandy Worhals performace was alright, I don't know, I guess I don't really like music where all the "singers" do is yell in a monotone voice. There wasn't enough of Crista and Nicole P and I feel that Daniele has been "brushed aside" by the Nicole Randall Johnson, but that's only my opinion. Overall, I'll try to stay optimistic about the rest of the season, but until then, this episode was horrendously bad.

Bobby Lee cannot do a single sketch on this show without making an asian joke or making it full of homosexual overtones to be funny. The 24 sketch was pretty bad.
I'm starting to lose a lot of respect for MadTV with this musical guest BS. The show is only an hour and it has a ton of commercial breaks, just make it all sketches, let people turn to a music channel if they want to hear music. Besides, the musical guest this week was AWFUL. The lead singer knew but 1 tone, yet felt confident that 1 tone was enough to yell it throughout the entire song. There were some decent sketches in here though, but overall this wasn't a great episode. By the way, in the 24 sketch did anybody else notice that Bobby Lee has a Nicole Parker shrine in his house (if im not mistaken). I think I recognised the picture of her, it was in the background and it was black and white and there were 2 candles on either side of it. I thought that was kind of funny. I did however like the R. Kelly sketches. I think the lyrics were pretty well done. Usually when it comes to musical parodies, the writers seem to sort of halfass it, but I think they did a good job this time around. Yeah so a serious Nicole Parker deficiency this episode I think. I'm pretty disappointed in the whole thing, but the few gems they did have I enjoyed. Hopefully next week's episode will have more to offer. __________________ An invariant mass requires rest energy without a HITCH, which makes Newton's second law as it appears in a nonrelativistic classical mechanics sitch, BIATCH. Now for Hobophobia89's take on Episode #1103:
The Return of the Rolling Stones: I thought this was pretty funny, I'm glad that it was short, otherwise it would have sucked. I would have liekd to see more of te people playing the Rolling Stones, they had great make-up. 3/5 Open: Kanye West: Meh. Not bad, not good. Just...meh. 2/5 Eric Balfour Backstage: This began the theme of one-joke sketches. I have to say, I did like Ike drooling. It went on for too long. 2/5 FOX NFL Sunday: One-joke sketch. It was pretty funny at first, and I liked see Caliendo doing someone beside Bush or Jimmy Madden. After a minute or two, it got really dumb. I got quite tired of Arden doing Barberie trying to get attention. 2.5/5 24 with Bobby & Jordan: More Bobby Lee? He was practically in every single sketch this night. The first installment was a lot better, but it was kind of funny with him and Jordan hugging and stuff. The Pauly Shore cameo at the end was just weird. 2.5/5 Music Video: R. Kelly "Trapped In The Cupboard": The first installment of the night was the best. for once, a MAD parody sounded like the song they were lampooning. The corny dialogue was dead on with Kelly, and the whole "I'm gonna shoot somebody if I don't get my cereal" or whatever was funny. 3.5/5 Angela: Sexually Active 8th Graders: I loved this sketch. It's not as great as some of the other Angela sketches, but it wasn't bad at all. I liked Jordan as the annoying boyfriend, and Arden and Nicole. I loved how Angela would just go up to people and say "Hey, do you have an STD?" 4/5 Music Video: R. Kelly "Trapped In The Cupboard" Chapter 34: Yay, Bobby Lee. Gosh, I can't believe they put him in this too. It wasn't a bad sketch though. Repetitive, but still okay. 2.5/5 George Bush Rebuttification: ![]() ![]() Music Video: R. Kelly "Trapped In The Cupboard" Chapter 189: They could have done without this, but I thought it was funny with Jordan driving in the fake car, and Daniele eating the rice krispies ![]() Intelligent Conversation: Another one-joke sketch. It wasn't a very funny concept, and there was nothing to build off of. They really wasted Eric Balfour's guest spot. (Who I've never even heard of. Why don't they get at least semi-popular actors?) 2/5 Commander In Chief Promo: One-joke sketch. I would have liked to see an actual parody of the show, instead of just the announcer. 1.5/5 Musical Performance: The Dandy Warhols "Smoke It": Any and all Dandy Warhols please excuse me for what I'm about to say...this performance was the worst piece of crap wasted musical performance in the history of MADtv ![]() ![]() ![]() Close: FOX NFL Sunday: Pretty dumb. A crappy way to end a crappy episode. 1/5 Wow, this episode is one of the worst I've EVER seen. MAD better shape up after football ends, or I'm out. What is their deal with having Bobby Lee in almost every single sketch. He's not a good actor. It sucks that Stephnie's leaving, because in this episode I realized that she's been carrying the show. They need to use more Crista and Nicole P. And why wasn't Nicole R.J. in the episode? They haven't really used her much, either. right now, I'm just hopin' for another Dorothy Lanier before Steph leaves, and that Luanne Lockheart is recurred. Best: Angela: Sexually Active 8th Graders Worst: Musical Performance: The Dandy Warhols "Smoke It" Overall: 32/70 or 46% *I apologize to any fans of Eric Balfour, TheDandy Warhols, or Bobby Lee. __________________ If you are illiterate, you can't read this. ***Winner of Worst Username in the '05 Planet MADtv Awards*** |

The Return of the Rolling Stones: Short and a little boring, but at least it didn't drag on... I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT WAS KEEGAN!
![]() Open: Kanye West: This had the potential to be funny, but it seemed to kinda go downhill as it went on, "Why does EVERYTHING have to be an issue with you?!" ![]() Eric Balfour Backstage: Not very funny, except for Ike's "PRETZELS MAKE MY EYES HURT!" line. 2/5 FOX NFL Sunday: At first I thought this was just going to end up being a cheap rip off of the "Anna Nicole Weather-girl" sketch, but it actually ended up being pretty funny to me! 4/5 24 with Bobby & Jordan: It was funny the first time, but I think they went a little too far on this on, especially when Pauly Shore appeared. ![]() Music Video: R. Kelly "Trapped In The Cupboard": I didn't really enjoy this until it got to the cupboard part. "What’s in the cupboard?" 3/5 Angela: Sexually Active 8th Graders: Like I said, this wasn't the best Angela sketch, but it was definitely the funniest sketch in this episode. I loved the part when she made Crista cry after telling her she probably had an STD and I totally lost it when the geek picked all the nerds over her. 5/5 Music Video: R. Kelly "Trapped In The Cupboard" Chapter 34: "Don't start with the cupboard!" 3/5 George Bush Rebuttification: To be honest, I switched the channel when I saw this sketch was coming up next. ![]() Music Video: R. Kelly "Trapped In The Cupboard" Chapter 189: I didn't flip back in time to see this. ![]() Intelligent Conversation: This sketch was just kind of boring, so they miss-pronounced and made up words... So what? ![]() Commander In Chief Promo: This wasn't funny at all IMO, all they did was make some sexist remarks about a female president... Not very creative... 1/5 Musical Performance: The Dandy Warhols "Smoke It": When the musical performance started up I just turned to Comedy Central and didn't go back. Close: FOX NFL Sunday: Missed it! OVERALL: This was a pretty bad episode, last weeks was definitely better. The writing seems to have gone stale this year and the show is wasting ALOT of great talent. I really hope everything gets better quickly... for MADtv's sake. ![]() Last edited by Texas; 10/03/2005 at 8:05 PM. |

Did anyone else e-mail MADtv with the answer to the question of the week? I e-mailed the answer like right as the answer came up, so I should be a winner.
