"The Marine" Deleted Scenes - Yahh, I don't care for John Cena. Bobby was funny in the first segment, but the second segment was just lame overall.

Dane Cook Stand-Up - Ike's Dane Cook was passable, although these weren't all that great.

Deal or No Deal - This was really long. Aside from a few funny lines from Jordan, meh.

Music Video: The Dixie Chicks "I Will Never Apologize" - Pretty good.

Madea's Ladies Night - Keegan's and Jordan's impressions were really good, but they could have done something a lot better with this.

Attitudes and Feelings, Both Desirable and Sometimes Secretive - I didn't care for this.

Keiko the Waiter - This was gross. And stupid.

Weekly News with Toby: Pope Benedict XVI - I like these, they're short and pretty funny, although the first one was my favorite.

Hooters - My favorite sketch. The ladies put in solid performances. Good stuff.

Nicole Backstage at "Fame Becomes Me" - This was funny.

Calgona Performs "Keep Up With Your Love" - This was only mildly amusing, but props to Crista for a good performance. Wicked moves, yo.

Overall - It might seem like I didn't enjoy the episode, but I did. It seems like the cast is stepping up their games a bit, at least to me. For instance, castmembers I weren't fond of before have been impressive, and the good ones are still good. That is all.

I'm pretty positive that's not Frank Caeti as "Toby", I think it actually might be the new writer Toby Morton. (in the rumor thread, someone mentioned that he's the one writing those, so I'm assuming it's him if it's not anyone in the cast.)

Would anyone happen to know if the sketch was indeed based on a specific Korean drama?
Funny you should ask...I do watch Korean dramas, and I know exactly which one this was a parody of. It's a drama called Really Really Like You on channel LA18 in the LA area. Info about the show here.

Family member of mine works for the show and was talking to Bobby, I believe, about how my mom, sister, and I watch Korean dramas, and somehow it got pitched to the writers to do a Korean drama parody, so they TiVo-ed one or two episodes of the show we watch and did a parody from that. The story they did in the parody actually had nothing to do with the plot in the real show, but the name "Long Bong" originated from "Bong-Soon," the RRLY main character's name, and Bobby played a doctor, and in RRLY, one of the main characters is Dr. Chang, and Bobby looked so much like him, it was hilarious, especially the hair. And in the particular episode they TiVo-ed, there was one scene where 2 characters were kissing, but it was the longest lean-in for a kiss ever - just kept cutting back and forth and back and forth, and that's what happened in the flashback in the parody too. Also made fun of the fact that so many Korean dramas have flashbacks to what you just saw like 5 minutes earlier.

Odd that the drama you're describing sounds so similar to this parody...maybe it was just coincedence.

John Cena vs. Bobby Lee: Cena was ok the first time he guested on MAD (especially on the Bobby Lee: 24), but I can't stand the guy otherwise, and there was no need to have him back. When it comes to personality, The Rock/Hulk Hogan/Rowdy Roddy Piper/Randy Macho Man Savage, he ain't.

Bobby Lee Cut Scenes From The Marine: These sucked. See above.

Dane Cook Runners: I'm not an Ike fan, but these were dead-on as to how lame Dane Cook is. I loved the fact that they took on SNL directly this week, as Cook hosted SNL's season premiere. Good work, Ike.

Superstitious Knights-Deal or No Deal: I've never been a fan of the Knights, but I liked this. Especially when Jordan said "Not the kinda porn I buy!"

Music Video-The Dixie Chicks-I Will Never Apologize: Solid. I'm sick of the little fat ugly one's (think that's how "The Family Guy" once described her) politics, and I've been wondering what the two other ones really think of her sabotaging their careers.

Madea's Ladies Night: Too bad they couldn't bring Aries and Debra back for this, as their "Straight Talk" characters.

Attitudes and Feelings, Both Desirable And Sometimes Secretive: Liked it. I'm glad I taped this episode, because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to read all of the President's bizarre rants. Thank God for pause buttons.

Keiko: The NAACP will be calling regarding this Stepin' Fetchit character. But I loved the concept. Truly bizarre and disgusting, while at the same time, compelling. What if Keiko could cure AIDS by vomitting in carriers mouths? Bet ya didn't think of that, didya? Not so repulsive now, is he?

Weekly Kids News With Toby-Pope Versus Muslims: A nice recovery from last week's lame baseball steroids one. I read in Sunday's paper that an ex-Marine is selling Mohammed bobbleheads over the internet. I'll bet he gets his head cut off, just like the Pope, Especially if he includes a money-back guarantee that contains his address.

Hooters: Funny. Nicole Parker is hot even when she's playing a bull dyke.

Nicole on Set of Fame Becomes Me: Martin Short at his smarmy, sarcastic best. Really love Nicole.

Music Video-Keep Up With Your Love: Felt like filler, but Crista's a trouper.

Three fine episodes in. I'm really enjoying this season.

This episode was okay. I like Nicole P. alot and I'm glad she's back full time at MAD from her Broadway run. Hopefully we'll start seeing her much more. The show could really use it.

I have to say, after reviewing the sketch again, that Crista's performance in this spoof is impeccable. It looked like it required some real work to pull it off. I am still not all that crazy about the sketch overall, but I have to give kudo's to Crista for a top notch job.

Well, three episodes are in the book. I'd say that this season is doing better than S11 at this stage. The only gripe I have so far: Frank seems to be the only castmember that hasn't had any leading roles yet (I don't think the Weekly News segments count). Let's hope that changes some time soon

I have to say that I agree with you, Hypnod, Where the hell is Frank Caeti this season? I have officially changed my name to ILoveFrankC, because I keep seeing him playing small parts better than most (won't name any names) do anything at all. Isn't this the same guy we saw do Joey and Kirt Jones last year--he can obviously dance, he's hilarious, and he seems to be a good actor. I want more Frank!!!!

From the bits an pieces I've seen of this on YouTube (thanks for the links, BlueWolf), it wasn't that impressive, but I really haven't seen much of it. I want to see the BTS bit with Nicole on Broadway, though.

Liked: Dixie Chicks, Attitudes and Feelings, Both Desirable And Sometimes Secretive:

Neutral: Calgona (good dancing for Crista, but not really a "parody" in my eyes)

Disliked: John Cena bits (he was better in 24, which still wasn't funny), Madea's Ladies Night

Haven't Seen: Dane Cook, Superstitious Knights-Deal or No Deal, Keiko, Weekly Kids News With Toby, Hooters, Nicole on Set of Fame Becomes Me

Words can't describe my gratitude for your response. And yes, I wholeheartedly agree that the parody was very funny. It captured the overall atmosphere of what I had watched way back when. Thanks, Caitlinnn.

  • Keiko the Waiter (Michael- Keiko, Keegan, Nicole P, Ike, Crista)
elscorcho: Aren't the other two members of the Dixie Chicks Emily Robison and Martie Maguire? Also, Arden was the hostess in the Keiko sketch.

madaboutfrankc: I wholeheartedly agree about Frank. While I missed his Curt Jones sketch from last season, his "Baby Joey" character gave me some good laughs. But what really amazes me is how he makes the most out of small bit/supporting roles. And he's very expressive, which is always a big plus in my book. The man has incredible talent and charisma.

Wow. I missed that one on Saturday. Please can I have those minutes of my life back?

Crista danced okay, but please her flabby body was gross. And I thought sketches were supposed to be funny. The joke is that she's a bad singer and dancer? We already knew that. That's why Nicole P. had to sing her part in the Dixie Chicks parody.

A joke requires a humorous surprise -- if Nicole P. -- someone everyone agrees can carry a tune and is an impeccable dancer -- did this sketch at least it would have that sort of zany, musical comedy energy. This was just sad. Watching a bad elementary school talent show sad.

I'm late with my half-ass review, but overall this week wasn't quite as good as the last two episodes. It was far from bad, but it was just...average. There were a few bombs (The whole John Cena/Bobby Lee stuff), but a lot of the worst sketches of the night were saved by the cast's good performances (Madea's Ladies Night, the Dane Cook bits), and quite a few decent sketches (the Korean soap parody, Hooters, the Dixie Chicks parody), and one rather...ahem...weird sketch (Keiko). Seems like the Weekly News will be a recurring segment every week (gee xFag, great observation right there ), same with the fake musical performances at the end of the show. As with this episode's "el fake-o", it was better than the previous one, but not as good as the first one (which succeeded with the whole so-smeggin-awful-it-was-hilarious shtick).

Sooo...this week gets a 6/10. No truly crappy episodes...yet. Every season's bound to have a few. (Especially Season 11...OH SNAP!)

Calgona is my new favourite pop-star. That bitch can DANCE!

I really liked some of the stuff I saw from this episode. The Dixie Chicks parody, Calgona and the Korean Soap Opera were all top notch sketches. The Ladies Night bit could have been executed better, but it was a good premise. I didn't watch the John Cena stuff. I like the direction MADtv seems to be going in this season.

Edit: Thanks BlueWolf and others for uploading the sketches. I appreciate it.
