Default Academy Awards

2006 Academy Awards

So, what'd everyone think?

I thought Jon Stewart was an excellent host, and he did great for a first timer. Maybe I would suggest less political jokes but i'm sure thats why they picked him. I like how they added skits into the show to take away alot of the tension I think most scripted award shows have.

Happily surprised with Best Picture (Crash) and Best Actor (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), but this is the second year I've disagreed with Best Actress (Reese Witherspoon).

All in all, good format.

Sadly, Jon Stewart was awful and also a lot of critic thought so too.

One critic said that Joaquin Phoenix reaction to the host made Mr. Phoenix looked constipated.

I was in shock when Crash won. I did not see it coming.

I think Reese deserved her Oscar. She didn't win it with drab looks as so many actresses have been doing in the past few years. She became June Carter Cash and completely stole the show in "Walk the Line."

Stewart was hilarious. George Clooney's acceptance speech was good too.

Great show overall. Jon Stewart was actually really good. I was skeptical but he definately did a great job. He did some great jokes that were on the spot. He was good at adapting his script to what was going on throughout the night.

I expected P.S. Hoffman and Reese to win but I think the biggest shock was Crash winning best picture. I'm glad it won, it was a nice suprise to end the night.

I don't know why the critics wouldn't like John Stewart unless they just thought he was a bit inapproriate but I thought he was good. And it's not like a critic's opinion really matters for the host of an awards show. Critics can help make a movie successful in theatres but they can't really impact a show that has allready aired and is over.

Sadly, who are you to say he was awful?
Did critics check to see if Joaquin Phoenix was in fact, constipated?

Cause right about now I look constipated too.

Oh forgot to say, Hard Live Being A Pimp or w/e.... best musical performance....EVER!
Now that's a career move that could only be shown through interpretive dance...

I didn't really like the musical performances this year. I wasn't at all interested in the music but 36 mafia winning felt like Eminem's 8 mile song all over again. Ie: unexpected as far as to say the academy did it to show that they are able to pick a less than likely winner for shock value.

Another small note but what kind of critic (who is expected to have a valued opinion) would say something as stupid as looking constipated. That is such a pathetic and immature statement, especially when it is in regards to the Oscars.

I think the Academy wants to show that they too, can be ghetto.
I mean, It was hilarious but at the same time, sad and a tad tasteless.

just google his name on Google and you get mixed reviews but mostly bad ones saying that Jon Stewart was worse than David Letterman.

cartman stop embarassing yourself already. I'm not finding all that many of these bad reviews you speak of. Here's the results of a poll I found:

Great job. Sign him up for next year. 4,765 votes

He seemed nervous but deserves a second chance. 1,890 votes

Bring back Billy Crystal, no one can replace him. 1,467 votes

Lame, send him back to The Daily Show. 1,027 votes

Lackluster, give Chris Rock a second chance. 237 votes

Total Count: 9,386

Don't make things up just because you don't like him. You do that all the time and sadly, it's getting old.

Well, I don't see anything that says Jon Stewart was awful, just that the audiance didn't react well to him. And I can see that, because PC Hollywood is incapable of humor. they can't handle east cost humor

By the way, did anyone else get annoyed when George Clooney alluded to the idea that Hollywood tells us what issues to become active in?
I believe I can think for myself Georgie.
Celebrities can be so egotistical.

As to why Joaquin looked constipated, I found this.
Quote:
As Reese Witherspoon wins her award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Joaquin Phoenix looks on with a facial expression that connotes half pride and half "how the hell did she win and I didn't?"
So I decide to spin this into a "Joaquin Phoenix is a selfish ass" thread.

Dude why the **** would anyone want Billy Crystal's lame ass on the oscars? My whole FAMILY laughed more at the Oscars than we EVER did in our whole life. Usually, my dad is just like WTF THIS IS RETARDED or something..but i really liked the oscars this year.

I was satisfied with the choices for best actress/actor but I think Jake Gyllynhall shoulda won best supporting actor. GRR.

I didn't see Crash, but I'm sure its very good so I'll have to see that. It probably deserves it.

The whole "It's Hard Bein a Pimp" or whatever the ****..it was SO ANNOYING i wanted to shoot myself the whole 5 minutes or whatever it was on. It was IRRITATING..in a few years the whole oscars show is probably gonna be filled with retarded rap songs. The only reason that song won is probably because the academy wanted to prove theyre "not racist" or theyre "ghettofabulous" or whateverthehell..but it was just STUPID and made me mad. SO THERE YA GO.

Oh yeah and Naomi Watts was so HOT..MMmmM i wanna lick that

I watched the whole thing last night, it finished at 2:30am here.

Dolly Parton needs to age gracefully. That face .... gave me nightmares. Reese Witherspoon gave the best acceptance speech. The guy that won whatever science and arts award from the week before (hosted by Rachel McAdams, who obviously didn't want to be there) gave the worst acceptance speech. I have no idea what the guys from March Of The Penguins were going on about.

PS: Jon Stewart was a great host.

I think Dolly Parton looks great for her age. I mean you can tell she has had work done but considering how hard she worked to look how she does I'm impressed. She also has the largest breastesses I've ever seen on a women so tiny. I can't believe she can support herself.

Personally I expected Brokeback to win the best picture award... I didn't see Crash, but from my friend's review and MadTV's ( ), I don't think Crash looked as good.

Ang Lee won best director-kudos to him.
