Checkmate to me.

I plan on seeing Scott Pilgrim tomorrow. I've seen some scenes of it over the last few days and I was laughing thoughout. Though it didn't do good this past weekend, by what I have seen, this movie is definately going to be a cult classic film that people will regret not seeing when it was in theatres.

Scott Pilgrim doesn't look like something I want to see, but a lot of people say it is super awesome.

I saw it, and yes it is. In fact, I think it's one of the best movies of the year, and is now in my top 10 of greatest movies ever. Edgar Wright turns out what may be the most original film of the year. It's great from beginning to end.

Many people think it's back because it seems like Michael Cera is playing the same role he has in every film, which is semi-true, but to me he pulls off his best performance of his career in this movie, along with Mary Elizabeth Winstead who really shows that she can actually act and is not just a scream queen, and Kieran Culkin (Macaulay Culkin's brother) who plays Scott's gay roommate, and has some of the best lines in the film.

I look at it as like a musical, except instead of fighting with dance moves, they fight in a Mortal Combat type style.

If you can detach yourself from the fact that no one can do things like float in the air, or explode into coins, it is a really fun ride, with one of the best musical soundtracks in a long time (I'm seriously thinking of buying the soundtrack, because everything is good on it). See this film, because it will be a cult classic one day, and is one of the few movies right now that is actually good. and gives hope that maybe the movies have a shot now (though the fact that Vampires Suck made more in it's opening weekend takes it down a large peg).

As you can see, it is my cup of tea.

Original as in based on a comic.

See, even as a comic. I just don't see how the whole video game element isn't completely ridic.
My friend has the comics, I wasn't into the storyline at all, and the illustrations aren't very good either.
Bah, i dunno.

Absolutely. In style, and look, it is far more creative and original in design then many things from scratch.

Well there's the thing, this is a world set in the real world as in it's set in a real city, but in a way it's not, but the way I see it is, why are musicals the only type of show allowed have unrealistic things in real life settings, like dancing instead of fighting? As I said, this is the same thing except remove the dancing and replace it with Mortal Combat type fighting.

i tend to agree with that.its not quite like anything else, stylistically(is that a word? lol)
i think it nails the style and feel of the graphic novels in the same way sin city captures its source material.
unlike u morgs,i like the illustration style
i've now said style too many times.sorry

ps i really want the soundtrack too but no-one around here has it and its annoying me now

I'm totally going to buy it too! I loved all the songs in the movie. The best to me has to be a tie between Launchpad McQuack, and The Clash at Deamondheads version of Metric's Black Sheep. If you want tarza I can look for it and mail you a copy (or you could just get all of them on youtube, your choice)

Your socialite ways of lofts in Manhattan have clearly distorted your being amongst the masses Pita. I am in total lesbians with this movie, and I stand by that.

I saw the movie Post Grad on TV, and, wow, what wasted potential.

It starts off as a fairly interesting premise, showing the harsh realities of graduating college in these tough economic times, especially when you majored in a Liberal Art like English. A lot of the scenes seemed to really emphasize that, like the interviewer not being impressed by Ryden's (Alexis Bliedel's character) major, or her potential landlord not being impressed that she was a college graduate. The movie would have been good if they had kept going in that direction and not added some lame-ass romcom subplot.

And what's worse, is they don't actually do it until ACT FUCKING THREE. We get that he's into her, but she only sees him as a friend, blah, blah, blah. But then he lays some guilt trip on her for missing his shitty performance at open mic night (though he DID have a right to be pissed because she did totally blow him off) and not giving up any pussy, and then all of a sudden she's in love with him? And then, she finally gets her "dream" job, but once she finds out it's not all it's cracked up to be, she learns some awkward-as-fuck lesson about finding love, then quits her job (the ONLY one she was able to get at ALL save from working at her dad's store) and flies halfway across the country to be with him. What. The. Fuck. And then she gets there, professes her love to him, sees another girl in his room, but it's only his RA. If it was his girlfriend, that would have been cliched as fuck, but at least it would have taught this dumb bitch that it's a bad idea to quit your job (especially in a fucking RECESSION) to chase a guy, especially when you're only 22, and there are like, three BILLION other guys to chose from, and she didn't even really like that guy like that anyway.

I just... fuck this movie, and everyone a part of it. It's sad, too, because a lot of the supporting actors (particularly Ryden's family, played by Jane Lynch, Michael Keaton and Carol Burnett) gave really great performances in it, WAY better than they had any reason to.

This movie probably would have been a lot better with a male lead character because they probably wouldn't have gone in such a hackneyed direction with it.

So this girls life blows cause she has an english major?
(My MFA is gonna suck soooooo bad)
Also, if they only have sex until act three, this is not my kinda film.
Honestly, when the interest gets flighty after seeing the RA/Sister/Friend that has a Vag, ugh. Girls aren't that stupid. Mostly. Movie girls suck.

Michael Keaton though...

Wow that movie does sound like it sucks. How does she go though all that college only to find out that fast that the job isn't as cracked up as she thought it would be. If I was going to pursue something like that I would look into it and see if it was what I really wanted to do (like I am now with broadcast journalism). As for the flying across the country to be with him, who is she Felicity or something?

Though you spoiled a lot of the movie anyway, you didn't say weather she went with the guy or not. If she did, cliché, but if she didn't, what's her problem?! You fly halfway across the country with money you probably don't have (I mean she only had that job for a short time and she's probably thousands in debt from college) to profess your love to this guy, sees that there's a girl in his room, and just say "Oh well, that's probably just his girlfriend. Back home to work at my dad's store!"

The other week I saw Red Road. It's about a street security camera operator in Scotland who becomes obsessed with a local criminal. The "big reveal" of the movie was interesting but overall it wasn't that great. Seemed kind of aimless.

A few nights ago I saw The Horseman, an Australian movie about a grieving parent getting revenge for his dead daughter. Unfortunately the story has been done to death and there isn't much deviation from the whole blood-soaked revenge movie pattern. The encounters are lined up like bosses in Mortal Kombat or something, each one more difficult than the last. There was nothing critically flawed with the movie, I had just seen the whole thing play out 100 times before.

Thin Red Line - I appreciated some of the cinematography and musings on war, but at the end of the day its too slow-paced and pensive for my tastes.
