Rather than starting new threads to discuss old movies, heres a thread where you can just say what movie you last saw (whether at the movies, on DVD/ video or on TV), and give a short (or long if you want) opinion and/or reccomendation.
I'll start. The last movie I saw was "Hero" starring Jet Li. Apart from having amazing cinematography, special effects and acting, it also has a well thought out and interesting plot which unravels in a fashion that keeps you unaware of what is real and what is imagined throughout the entire movie. It's in Chinese, but that shouldn't stop anyone who can read from seeing this movie, as it is much better than alot of stuff that has come out of America lately. I highly reccomend it. __________________ What happened to Andrae? ![]() |

The last movie I saw was Sunset Story, which is this documentary about these two really awesome, liberal old ladies in a nursing home. It was VERY funny, but also kinda sad. I'd really recommend it. Here's a description from Amazon.com:
Sunset Story is a funny and intimate documentary drama that will make you think differently about growing old. It tells the story of Irja (81) and Lucille (95), two friends at a rest home for retired radicals. As they attend demonstrations, register their fellow residents to vote and debate everything under the sun, Irja and Lucille’s verve and humor delight us. Sunset Story doesn’t shy away from the sadness of old age; it reveals two elderly women’s lives in an unusually authentic and surprisingly moving way.Has anyone else seen it? It was really good. I've seen it twice. __________________ Matt (the OTHER one) "If you want to be a better actor - a better lawyer, doctor, teacher - anything - be a better human being." ~ Debra Wilson |

Today I watched two movies.
The first was 50 First Dates which I watched because I was just so bored at the time. For an Adam Sandler comedy, I found it quite depressing. I mean, how could you live like that? The penguin was cute though. ![]() The second movie was Le Cage aux Folles which is the original version of "The Birdcage." It's french (obviously) and subtitled. It's actually one of my favorite foreign films, I think it's hilarious, possibly more so than the Robin Williams/Nathan Lane version. Quote:

I liked House of Flying Daggars better than Hero. The cinematography and special effects were equal to that of Hero, but I thought the acting and storyline were better

Wedding Crashers looks great.
Last night I watched Run Lola Run (Lola Rennt) which is another good foreign film. (It looks like thats all I watch but I don't, I swear! ![]() It's a German movie about a girl who has 20 minutes to help her boyfriend who has lost 100,000 in DM. An IMDB plot summary... The film explores the events that fate alone controls and displays the constant "what if's" that occur every moment and that can easily change the happenings of the next. The film follows the events between a woman, Lola, and her boyfriend, Mani, who she desperately tries to save from death by helping him obtain a huge amount of money he carelessly lost. It takes you on three different journeys with Lola, all controlled by fate, showing you what would happen in each, and all the "what if's" that provide the foundations for each outcome __________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets punched in the throat. ------------------------------- Morgan & Nik - Nocturnal Twins Forever ------------------------------- "Tacocat is spelled the same backwards and fowards!" I love Run, Lola, Run. Amelie is another amazing foreign movie. I recently watched The Gangs of New York which I found to be totally disappointing and way too long. I also watched a really cool short film called Kitchen Sink where this lady finds a hair in the drain of her kitchen sink, and keeps pulling it until a fetus appears. I won't ruin the rest of it for anyone who wants to see it.
![]() And then I started watching Scarface, the 1983 version, not the original. I haven't finished that yet. __________________ What happened to Andrae? ![]() |

Today I watched two movies.
Watched Clockwatchers with Parker Posey and Lisa Kudrow. It's about 4 temps in an office who become friends and try to escape their boring jobs. There's an office theif, hilarity ensues, etc, etc. Then I watched A Midsummer Nights Dream with Kevin Kline and Michelle Pfeiffer. It was good, I think MSD is my favorite Shakepeare comedy but, I hate old english. All of the dialogue was old english, straight from the play. I could've done without that. __________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets punched in the throat. ------------------------------- Morgan & Nik - Nocturnal Twins Forever ------------------------------- "Tacocat is spelled the same backwards and fowards!" I watched Stewie Griffin The Untold Story yesterday and i thought it was verrrry hilarious, in a family guy fashion with random thingy's like in the show and stuff. Stewie looks for his birth father and goes on an adventure on the way and stuff. Really funny and stuff. You should check it out.

The other night I was bored so I decided to throw in Kill Bill vol. 2 I love that movie. I love the scene where she is training with the Asian man. And the scene when she's fighting the lady with the one eye. That was great. I love the part when she gets out of the grave and she's covered in dirt and walks into the diner. That scene was just hilarious.

Today, i watched Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind. Verry good movie. I love how it's all sci-fi, and a comedy, and a romance and has a lot of twists. Alot of the time, i was like 'WTF is going on!?!?' and then you're like 'Ooooh, i get it.' Good movie

Great story, but the whole middle section where he was trying to keep his memories of Clementine from being erased was so long and tiresome. It was aesthetically stunning, but I got frustrated because it didn't really go anywhere. Considering that part had no true impact on the rest of the film, (ie. he lost his memories of her anyway) it felt like a waste. If it wasn't for that part I would have liked it more. Newt, if you liked this movie, you should check out Adaptation and Being John Malkovich. I can't guarantee that you'll like them, but they were both written/produced by Charlie Kaufman, the same guy who wrote and produced Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. They both defy and questions typical Hollywood narrative conventions and are both excellent. __________________ What happened to Andrae? ![]() |

There was one part in the movie that I didn't understand at all. It was towards the beginning, and Joel is driving his car in the rain, and he throws a cassette out the window. When did that happen? Was it that special tape that he made for his memory to be erased? It didn't seem to fit in with where he was, chronologically in the film. __________________ TRIPOD: LYZZA ![]() ![]() ![]() Selena Luna = Best. Castmember. Ever.

I watched The Royal Tennenbaums today. This is probably my favorite Wes Anderson movie. It's funny but actually smart and the characters are great.
Also, one of the best casts ever: Gene Hackman, Angelica Houston, Ben Stiller, Gwenyth Paltrow, Luke and Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Danny Glover, etc. Great Chemisty. Quote:
I also like the end, because it's just....more bittersweet than anything else. Do you like my pink cowboy hat? ...and Kurt; Quote:

That's the thing, the movie comes full circle. The scene at the beginning of the movie is actually the end. That is, we are shown a glimpse of the future at the beginning. He's in his car, crying, listening to his tape that just caused Clementine to leave him for the second time. I realised about ... 20 minutes in that their initial meeting at the beginning of the film wasn't the first time they had met.
The Royal Tenenbaums is a great movie, but I prefer The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I love quirky movies, especially when a group of actors with amazing chemistry come back do more than one movie together. Oh, and Scarface is the best American Gangster film I have EVER seen, bar none. I don't know any Cubans, so I've got nothing to compare his performance to, but Pacino was outstanding, as always. __________________ What happened to Andrae? ![]() |
