Default My MadTV experience! (Future sketch SPOILERS)

Okay. I know I havn't posted in like ages... but I'm posting here for a reason. Last night, I saw a taping of MadTV. It was great!

I went with a group, so we were guarnteed seats (a plus. I guess some people had to get turned away - and some people waited hours for any available seats!)

After waiing until about 4:15 or so, people with tickets were let in (the guy was using a counter...), then, we were let in, then, any extra people with tickets were let in.

You go through a metal detector, and put anymetal things to the side.
You also get told to turn off your cell phone or pager.
Anyhow, you sit on benchs, then get a chance to go to the bathroom. You then are given a speach about to be active and laugh and turn your cell phones off, yada yada.

Then, we walked, a little bit, to the MadTV studio. (We passed some people trying to be contestants on Shop til you Drop and the offices for Crank Yankers)

Then, we enetered the MadTV builidng, stage 3/8. (I also saw like an office building to the side that was like MadTV props and hair and other things department.

Anyhow, incide the building you walk around what is the stage (black curtains up around it) and a few large signs that say "MadTV.com"

Anyhow...you are then put in the audience bleachers and once again told to turn your cell phones off. You meat a guy (our guys name was "Blas")
Who s like the audience pumper-uper. He gives out candy, shirts, and a few othr things. (I'm pissed. The person RIGHT next to me got a MadTV 200th episode commerative pin. Damn.)

Anyhow. Blas was okay, but he gave a lot of the stuff to the same people. The sketchs were cool.... and here they are, with descriptions....
-----------------SPOILERS! ------------------------

-----
Shug Night's Court Ordered Christmas Album [8/10]

Okay. Aries as Shug Night.... um. Josh as Eminem... Danielle as Lil Kim ( I think...)

Anyhow. This sketch was pretty funny. Actually, it was really funny when Aries kept messing up. Frank Calliendo was doing voieover (it was like a TV ad) ... so after messing up so many times, Frank, in the anouncer voice, was like "I think he's doing this on purpose!" (it was the part where he... uses his Misletoe Belt Buckle.... on Lil Kim (or whoever Danielle was playing). Even the director said "Sorry Danielle...." Heh. too bad you wont see THAT.

This was pretty funny... especially all the songs on the CD (Lots of them will ave to be censored.... but thyer all songs like "Grandma got a drive-by by a reindeer" and "F*ck the halls"

----
Everybody Loves Raymond's Lesbian Cousin [PRE RECORDED] [7/10]
This sketch was one of the "pre recorded" sketches they showed us, but they told us they were recording our laughter. (which they do for all the filmed sketchs as well)

Anyhow, I have to say, this sketch wasnt so funny... the funny part is Michael as Raymonds brother.... anyhow, this was ok.
-----
For some reason, they showed us the John Madden for Vagisil commercial. [5/10] I didnt see this on TV, but I can only assume this is the same one. I thoght this was okay.... it was pretty funny with almost any time frank said "monkey" he was like "which remember, really means vagina"

Anyhow... this was okay.
-----
Saffron Johnson [8/10]

Now this sketch.. this was great. It was about the Lakers neading a new player, so Phil Jackson (Ike) introduced their newest player to the press (Ron Frank, Bobby Lee) He told them this player was "guarnteed" to not do what Kobe did. Then he introduced Saffron Johnson, the newest laker. '

I have to say, Jordan was GREAT as Saffron. He plays gay really well. Anyhow, this was another sketch that was funny to see them do mutiple times (they film all the sketchs at least twice. Both times they tell you to laugh. then, they may or may not film a "pickup", where they reshoot part of the scene - for example, they reshot Jordan talking about going to the bar (*ahem* baby back-door ribs .... oh geez)

Another good sketch.
------------------------
Hollywood Squares [PRE-FILMED] [7/10]

Well, I can tell you this was okay. The highlet was that they really got Tom Bergeron... which just makes it great. The premise is that is something like "Stupid hitches week" or something, and that its couples day, and the players are both from Reality TV shows. Michael as "Andrea" was great. Be prepared - when he/she runs..... you can see these really saggy boobs jiggling in the thisrt every time. Both funny and gross. She keeps on wanting there to be "no secrets" and no suprises (she runs away when Tom is talking about the "secret square"

Anyhow. This was okay. Not bad, actually. Better than John Madden for Vagisil...and maybe better than Everybody Loves Raymonds Lesbian Cousin.
-----------
Music Video: Britney Spears "Me Against Madonna" [PRE-FILMED] [6/10]

This was okay. MadTV's music videos sem to range from sucky to great. This is sorta the middle (although I didnt know what song it was making fun of... so that may have affected it.) Anyhow, (Mo?) as Madonna was great. Every time she had a cane... or walker... or wheelchair... and she was chasing Britney... it wasnt that great though.. It was mediocre.
-------------
Dr. Phil [PRE-FILMED] [7/10]

This was actually pretty funny. Michael as Dr. Phil is just great. This premise is that Dr. Phil couldnt solve these peoples problems. (coming up with solutions like "Eat your grandmother") Not bad. Short. Funny quotes. (Ahh. People are stupid. I cant solve peoples problems in 5 minutes on national tv....)

Not bad. Micahel is again the highlight.
----------------
Flu Sex [9/10]

Fantastic. Michael and Stephanie as a couple.... Premise is that Stephanie is sick, and Michael has stayed home to help her recover... b ut it turns out, he wants more than that. He offers her a back rub, then starts massaing her butt. He rubs he shoulders, then moves to her breasts. He tells her he wants "Flu Sex"... and he doesnt care how sick she is. ("Honey, I have vomit breath" "Thats sexy.")

The end is kinda disturbingly funny.... (she bends over to throw up and he comes from behind to start having sex....) [In one of the filmings of it, she turned around and started "throwing up" on Michael (no trow up though. Good.)

But in general, not a bad sketch. Really funny, actually.
---------
Shaq and The Super Lakers [CARTOON (obviously pre filmed)] [6/10]

This wasnt bad.. premise was that Mike Tyson was the new waterboy for the super lakers.... this wasnt really that funny.... but Aries is great as Shaq.... anyhow, its still good to see animation. The dog is pretty funny too.
----------
Ike and Josh (not sure - IIRC... maybe Ron and Josh?) at Cat in the Hat Premiere [PRE-FILMED] [5/10]

Well, this was okay... the combo of the two actors (sorry, i'm not sure...) wasn't bad. They kept talking about going to Applebee's. They even get to talk to Mike Myers (wow. Mike Myers on MadTV. Crazy.) They even give a "Brotherhood of Poland, New Hampshire" mug to one of the main actresses in the show, sayin how sad it is that it was cancelled. Her reaction is hilarious (AFAIK, it wasnt. At the time they were DEFINATLY kidding). Anyhow, this was okay.
--------------------
Geert [10/10]

YES. Easily one of the best sketchs of the night.
This was HILARIOUS. The premise was that Geert (Josh) was a newly taken in "brother " of this son (Ron) - with Parents as Michael McDonald and Mo Collins. It was HILARIOUS. Girt (who nobody can pronunce right. He keeps saying "It's Heert" Mo and Michael as GREAT as the parents (in one of the filmings, they just couldnt keep a straight face) Geert kept giving thenm gifts too. And at one point, he plays his Dutch music and asks Mo to dance with him - its funny. At the end of the sketch, Geert ends up getting too much attention (especially from Ron's study partner) Ron tells Geert to leave - but Geert first gives him two gifts. A tie with the dutch flag - and a two pound bag of hash. uponthe receival of the second, Ron decides he wants Geert to stay (as he tells his parents. it was funny. the first time, Micheal said "it smells like hash in here. oh well" the second time, he said "it smells like a two pund block of hash in here") - anyhow, definatly a great sketch.

-------------------
Mexican Restuarant and Mariachis [10/10 rating for this, btw]

This is possibly one of the best skecths I have EVER seen. So hilarious. The premiise is this group of people eating at a mexican restaurant - ith a mariachi band. But when the mariachi band starts singing innappropriate songs.... things turn to the worst!

From songs about Spanish whores to "The Bitch who wont say her name", this skecth shines every second its on, starting with a joke ("Naughty Nachos"). Ends great too. They send the mariachi band away, and then the mariachis sing "That table over there are losers"

This sketch is pure awesomeness.

----------------------------------
Depressed Persian Tow Truck Man on a plane [6/10]

Okay. I have to say Michael is so great as Persian tow truck man. But I sorta have seen enough. But still, seeing him live is great. The fact it does some plane jokes are okay; most of the jokes arent bad; but the ending is weak. Still, this sketch wasnt bad. Aslo, we see how hairy PTTM is -"Only a little less hairy than Robin Williams" (wonder if that will make it intop the sketch - they filmed it in one of the two filmings)

-----------------------

------------------------
Lillain Verner Game Show [10/10]

YES. Great. I have to say Michael Hitchcock certainly added to this skecth, but the whole thing is great. I didn't know what Lillian Verner was, but it was explained - its a cheap catalog. Anyhow - great performances all around. I have to say though, it was so great to see them mess up. Hitchcock just stayed in character and his facial expressions were FANTASTIC. Even in the regular sketch, his facial expressions are GREAT.
-------------------

Ok. *whew* done. I didnt get any of the giveaways (aww)... they even give away signed scirpts - signed by the whole cast!

I did, however, get my "MadTV Release" card signed (everybody gets one - on the other side is a cast pic) - and made out "To Hobie "(thats me) - signed be Aries, Bobby, and Mo!

So that was cool. Anyhow, it was a fun time and I definatly would go again. Maybe someday, I will. Definatly go in a group or with people you know.

Maybe someday we can arrange a planetmadtv.com trip? *shrug*

Anyhow, it was awesome. Looking forward to seeing these on TV.
(they said "anytime in the next 4 weeks - and not necessarily the same episode ")

Wow, that sounds awesome! Thanks for taking the time to tell us about the sketches. I can't wait for the Suge Night sketch.

Sounds like a fun experience. Now I really want to see a taping.

Reminds me of the time i saw all the tapings of Royal Canadian Air Farce. We all lined up at the CBC studios and then they made sure your name was on the list and they gave you your tickets and lead you to the elevators (it was on the tenth floor) where you go to the bathroom, drinking fountain, check in your coats and then follow the usher for a brief tou behind the stage around the prop department and to the seats. Then they play music and bring out a band to get the audience excited and wish all the people happy anniversary, happy birthday and welcome groups who came. Then you watch a safety video on what happens if a fire breaks out, what they special effects are (health reasons) and to turn off your cell phones and pagers along with hairdryers, electric toothbrushes and vibrating devices and THEN they start taping and re-taping sketches. If anyone has a chance to see a live taping of any TV show...go...it is a LOT of fun. usually it takes 3-4 times longer than the actual lenth of an episode on TV to do.

Default Fridays taping

Where were you when you got seated? man, i bet we walked right pas each other, and another really funny part about the suge night sketch, after Aries had f**ked up the misltoe belt joke like 3 or 4 times, Danielle had been kneeling right below him, and he just couldn't get it right, so josh started kneeling where danielle had been, It was really funny! Were you just in town for the one show or are you from around la? Blas isn't as good as the last Warm up, Alan... And the sketches may take even longer than 4 weeks to air, stuff that was shot in august still hasn't aired yet.. so some of it may stay on some cutting room shelf for a few months before we get to see it on tv. I just hope they play geert soon. wasn't it so cool when josh started F**king up and Just started going off in Dutch? When We got his autograph He wrote to us in dutch. we got a script of the geert sketch and he signed it "meisjes, lekker leuk eh" which means "Girls, really funny, huh?" Ron also signed it, HE drew a line to his name on it and wrote that's me.. He's got a real sense of humor, He had his camera with him to show his parents where he works and stuff, and he got a picture of my lil sister and told his 'rents that she was his fave it was really cute.
