Set in 1956 on a campus,orbits around ballroom dance, golf and the early 19th century Beidermeier school of furniture design. It is an elegaic meditation of friendship and love, the life of the mind versus life as she lived in The World- and it is Lemoine's saddest,most wistful comedy yet.

Ron Pederson has come home this summer to be in the play that he has always dreamed of. I spoke with Ron and he is really excited about this play. A play by Stewart Lemoine, Ron first seen the play when he was a teenager 14 or 15, and now gets the chance to work along side a couple of Edmonton's finest young actors. Jocelyn Ahlf and Josh Dean.Directed by Stewart Lemoine.
They are in rehersal now and the play opens on July 1 at the Varscona in Edmonton.
I also have a little inside info that may be we might see a few of the MADtv past and present cast members come up to see this great play!!!!!

MAD about Edmonton

You know you've reached a certain level of renown when your name suddenly sprouts a descriptive prefix, like "American Idol Clay Aiken" or "Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein." Thus has Edmonton actor Ron Pederson become "MADtv's Ron Pederson," as though he was birthed from the very loins of the popular Fox network sketch comedy show for which he currently toils.

"If it sells tickets to the theatre, then by all means," Pederson said over food and drink this week at the Next Act Pub, Old Strathcona's de facto actors' haunt.

"But I'm Edmonton's Ron Pederson."

Edmonton's Ron Pederson is again back home for the summer, having wrapped up his second season on MADtv. This past year saw him bumped up to regular cast member status from featured player, and he returns to Los Angeles in August to begin work on his third season for the show.

And, like last year, he's again spending part of his summer starring in a Teatro la Quindicina production at the Varscona Theatre. Shockers Delight, a revival of playwright Stewart Lemoine's wistful and wonderful 1993 romantic comedy, premieres tonight.

It's Pederson's all-time favourite Lemoine play, as much for its own merits as for the emotional attachment he has to it. As a bambino of just 15 years in 1993, it was the play that introduced Pederson to his future mentor and the theatre company that would become his second family.

"I was kind of emerging and getting to know Stewart and the Teatro gang. I knew I wanted to be a part of Teatro," said Pederson, who stars alongside Jocelyn Ahlf and Josh Dean.

Pederson has no desire to sever ties to his Edmonton roots, which makes him something of an unusual beast in Hollywood. He doesn't audition for commercials, he's not working on a pilot and you won't find him listed as "nerdy guy at party" in the credits of Scooby Doo 2.

"I don't really buy it, the hustle and bustle of Hollywood," he said. "I have a job, and I'm fine with that for now."

He's come into his own as one of the MADtv ensemble in the past year, drawing raves for characters like the cantankerous co-host of 7 A.M. Condo Report and particularly for his portrayal of Clay Aiken.

"I watched him on Oprah, and he's a little effeminate, you know? So I gave him just a little bit of that southern belle," Pederson said. Aiken? Effeminate? Pish-posh.

The initial sketch went over so well, the show's writers have brought Pederson's Aiken back several times since.

"I'm slowly turning him into woman," he said. "I hope by the end of next season we get him in a gown and a pearl necklace and gloves."

Pederson insists he hasn't changed, even if people's perceptions of him have. He has more money than before, which translates into a few more picked-up bar tabs and gestures like buying a full-page ad in the New York Fringe festival program for Lemoine's Pith!, which plays in La Grande Pomme's alternative theatre fest next month.

He also gets recognized on occasion, like during a recent visit to New York when a woman stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of him.

"I was on the street, and this lady says, 'Holy (expletives deleted), it's Clay (expletive) Aiken! That there is some funny (stuff)!'

"Yeah, I got it pretty good. Especially since I get to come back here. It's the best of both worlds."

Shockers Delight runs today through July 17 at the Varscona Theatre, 10329 83

Four cast members didn't get renewed, so Pederson expects to be getting more screen time next season. Meanwhile, he and his L.A. castmates hit the live stage together for the first time at the Chicago Improv Festival in April.

Well there are a couple of people who just may not have been asked back regardless of contract status........There are a couple of people whose contracts may have either expired or will expire within the next season who may not have been asked back............


As to who it is, I really don't know.

HI all! I'm new around here, and I must say....
I LUUUVVVV RON!! And I'm soooooooooooo glad to find some people who agree with me!!!!
My fav. character is Clay, and that's kinda sad considering I'm a HUGE Clay-fanatic...but there's just something about the way Ron plays Clay....*sigh*
Amer. Political Idol reaired last night....man that boy can sing pretty decent!

Also, I was wondering for the longest time if Ron's gay?? But I saw in that bio that he has a g/f??

Now, my crisis is this....Ron plays Clay as gay (which he is not and I will deny until my death) and kinda sissy...so technically, I should be VERY upset at this...but I can't cause it's ROn and I luv Ron!

Actually, you may be surprised to learn that I've met many Clay fans who also enjoy Ron's impersenation...are we bad?? lol.
