The scheduled performance of comedian Bobby Lee, who is well known for his act and his appearances on Mad TV, at the Activity Center on Saturday night drew in students, relatives and alumni.

The noted performer and his opening act were late, leading to a well-meaning member of BCA attempting to distract the audience with trivia questions and the chance of getting a front-row seat. The comedian who was slated for the opening act took over after the BCA spokesman was heckled off of the stage.

The opening act only served to infuriate audience members already frustrated by the delay of the expected performance. Nick Yosseff began with a volley of jokes about the hazards of air travel, which failed to raise much laughter from the audience. He then proceeded to discuss the war in Iraq, earning a small scattering of applause for some of his views. The hecklers began to call out at this point, and the comedian failed to respond in a witty and timely fashion, instead spending time on a tangent about one heckler's inebriated girlfriend. When the comedian moved on to his views on President Bush, the crowd got even uglier, with numerous people calling out for him to leave the stage and several of the alumni present walking out of the Activity Center. When a portion of the crowd began chanting for Bobby Lee, the comedian expressed disbelief. The act culminated in the Assistant Director of Student Activities, Tina Blake, asking him to introduce Bobby Lee and leave the stage.

Lee immediately began singling out several audience members for some good-natured teasing. As his act progressed, the atmosphere of hostility built up by the opening act dissipated, and soon the majority of the audience was laughing uproariously at Lee's jokes. The humor tended towards the implications of Lee's ethnicity and his stern father, with a smattering of dirtier subject matter, including a discussion of various strip clubs around the country, thrown in. One student was brought up to the stage after making an incomprehensible comment, and was revealed to be in possession of a small flask, as well as inebriated. Lee convinced ERAU Security not to take any action.

Lee's finale involved him bringing three students up to the stage for a strip show. One man served as an impromptu strip pole, while the other served as the announcer and the music system. The girl was the subject of Lee's dance. After taking a name for the imaginary strip club, "Asian Persuasion," and a stage name, "Cinnamon," from the audience, Lee darted off stage. When the announcer signaled the beginning of the act, Lee came back on to the stage wearing only leopard-skin print briefs. Hilarity ensued.

Lee wrapped up the act, and then came back on to the stage to mollify those calling for an encore. He told two jokes, and then finished for the night, leaving many people satisfied that their time had not been completely wasted.

I was listening to a clip from an affiliate radio show of the Bob and Tom (I think) show, one of the many that Aries has gone psycho on, and they did an inteview with Bobby about the incident, among other things.

In regard to the incident, he said he got into a fistfight with Aries last year, and that it got really physical. He said "Aries likes to pound" and that he (Aries) started it and it had to be broken up by one of the producers. When asked if Aries is a violent guy, he says "I don't know man, I love black people ... but he's not the typical kind. He's very agressive and rude." When they played the clip of it, Bobby sounded pretty mortified. He said that he has nothing personal against Aries, but he has a list of 1000 resentments against him, and that this year of MADtv has been the best he has had because Aries hasn't been there. "It's like a black cloud ... I mean not literally a "black" cloud, over our heads is gone." He also argued Aries claim that he's "from the streets," since he's been in the stand up industry since he was 14, and had his first development deal at 16, and was making 6 figures at that age. In the clip they played for Bobby, Aries said "I'm from the streets of New York" and Bobby says "he's from Chicago, not New York!"

He also refers to the fans of MADtv as a "loyal cult following of 12 year old mexican girls."

Holy crap. I never really payed attention to Aries' notorious tantrums but I think once you "pound" your co-worker (especially Bobby Lee, that's so not a fair fight...lol sorry), I think you've stepped over the line into psychoville....

Chung, Povich to Host Weekend News Show

Connie Chung and Maury Povich will be united on-screen for a weekend news show produced by the co-creator of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," MSNBC said Monday.


Chung, the former CBS newswoman, has been inactive since CNN pulled the plug on her prime-time news show in 2003. Her husband is in the eighth year as host of the syndicated daily talk show "Maury."


The new program, which doesn't have a name yet, is described as a look at the week's headlines, from politics to pop culture, and will have guests. It's the first time Chung and Povich have worked together on a national news
program.


MSNBC said the two hosts will "cut through the spin and get to the truth, exploring all sides of a story as only two people who have been married for 20 years can do."


Lizz Winstead is the executive producer. She is the former head writer for "The Daily Show" in the pre-Jon Stewart days and was the host of Air America's "Unfiltered."


The show will air four times over weekends on the third-ranked cable news channel, the first time at 10 a.m. Saturday. It will debut on Jan. 7.


"Maury's been on my case to get out of the house and get back to work, but I didn't want to until he came up with this idea," Chung said. "The question is not whether the program will last. ... The question is, `Can our marriage
survive?'"

After thinking about it for a few days, I think Aries should have left the series a few seasons early maybe around 2002-2003 because he clearly overstayed his welcome.
