And the award for most improved thread goes to...*drum roll*...um, this one *scattered applause*. No, seriously, though (or as serious as I can get), just thought I'd poke my "Hermanhead" in to see what kinda bizness is goin' on in hyah. (Yes, that's my idea of street lingo, so stop snickering.) Gosh, didn't this thread have, like, 2.5 replies once upon a time? And now it has, what, 999 gazillion and counting? Man, you guys are sick. I mean, I mean, you're just so f**kin' obsessed! God, don't you guys have lives? It's unnatural to be this obsessed about a "MADtv" alumnus in this manner. It's wrong; it's pathetic; it's...it's...it's beautiful, man *begins to cry*. All the Hermanheads in one place...someone hand me a tissue. No, really, someone hand me a tissue; my keyboard's getting soaked here.

Yes, I too, brethren, have come here to profess my own Hermanitis. It's true! It's true! I too have succumbed to the goofiness, the sarcasm, the overall comedic wit, and the tiara-wearing display of the inner child that embody one David Herman. Granted, my Hermanitis doesn't extend too far beyond "MADtv" just yet; but, hell, isn't that enough? Anyhoo, Dave-O's just one of those performers that tend to get better and better as I watch him. He's grown on me like a vine-like fungus that just won't let go! (The poetic comparisons can get a little weird sometimes, folks, so bear with me.)

Just today, I caught the Daveman in a "MADtv" Season 2 ep (sadly cut to a half hour) that opens with that Spishak commercial for...oh, what's it called, Spoonfrk? You know, that combo spoon/fork/knife thingy that cuts up your jaw when you eat with it? Anyhoozeez, I love the opening to this sketch, in which Herman's character expresses his pre-Spoonfrk frustration over having to alternate constantly among three different utensils (poor guy!) when he eats dinner: "Why, why, why, why, why?" The Daveman's intentionally understated, dumbed-down delivery of the aforementioned line is what really makes it hilarious, however. He performs the "dumbing down" technique in a couple of other sketches; it's a forte of sorts for him. After the "X News" sketches, I'd have to say that D.H.'s commercial parodies are my fave Herman "MADtv" moments. Well, O.K., I don't have to say it, but...aw, hell, you know what I mean.

*Mizzimad slips into Al Casdy mode.* See? Do you see? Thoughtful analysis of David Herman's special brand of comic genius is good for the soul. Think...of the ways...you could spread...Hermanitis...throughout the world...as I...dramatically pause...between thoughts.

And now, fellow Hermanheaded brethren, I have to shut the f**k up b/c I must now schedule a doctor's appointment. I have Hermanitis, and there is no cure!!!!!!

mizzimad, it's so hard for me to read some of your posts with all of my A.D.D!! j/k mizz...now to get to what i ACTUALLY intended to post: my favorite herman moment would have to be the spishak commercial that combines coffee and doughnuts, to get out of the everyday hassles of dunk and eat, dunk and eat, dunk and eat...LOL and all of those other disgusting combinations!! that one was classic. i love when he's dunking his doughnut and eating and he says "AHHHHH THIS HAS GOT TO END!!"

Yeah, that's another great example, elscorcho. Ah, yes, the torture of having to spread peanut better and jelly separately onto one's bread--"my arm...AAAAAAAAARGH!"--is no more, thx to Spishak. Hey, elscorcho, I'm not losing you, am I? Hey, hey, hey, eyes up here. Pay attention; I'm almost through. Whoa, whoa, you nodding off on me again? *snaps fingers* Wake up, wake up, wake up!

Uh, elscorcho? Yo, dude! Can you hear me? Oh, well, must be the ADD again. I'm shutting the f**k up now; no one wants to play anymore.

*walks off in a huff, bottom lip dragging the ground*

I saw that one coming. It's too bad that a Dave show got cancelled.

This is seriously the best place online for Hermanheads... and probably the only place. It's great to see all of the people emerging who like Dave too, especially since he's rather obscure (and terribly underrated).
I, personally, am very partial to Marsh from X News. It seems to me that Dave really inhibited that character and gave him a lot of life. Marsh is so obnoxious that I can't help but love him . I mean, come on people... "in bees-nes ners tow-dee"... that just kicks ass.

I agree with you, Minky, that Dave is grossly underrated. In fact, after Pat Kilbane, I'd say that D.H. the single most underrated "MADtv" performer of all. (I place Pat Kilbane before Dave in this regard only because, unlike Herman, Kilbane just seemed to disappear forever after flying the Alfred E. coop.) As I've said before, David Herman tends to inspire either devotion or disgust in "MADtv" fans. I mean, to me, the Daveman is brilliant; however, for some ungodly reason, certain "MADtv" fans simply find him obnoxious. (Infidels!) Not that I'm comparing, but didn't Andy Kaufman also inspire this kind of polarity? Hmmm....At any rate, the Daveman indeed deserves more credit than he's been given for his priceless contributions to "The Alf E. Comedy Extravaganza."

"X News" is simply one of the most hilarious recurring ensemble sketches in television history, if not the most hilarious. (Can't think of any better ones at the moment...hehehehe.) Nicole S. and Dave really work well together, and their portrayals of obnoxious yet likable Gen-X slackers are dead-on. My fave "X News" sketch has to be the one in which Marsh, to quote Nic's Amy character, "sets back race relations, like, 400 years" with his well-intentioned but thoughtless racial comments. Oy, that Marsh knows how to open up his beak and shove in his podiatric matter, doesn't he? Still, there's no such thing as a bad "X News" sketch, and Marsh always delivers. Oh, and Amy's not too shabby herself. Then again, you folks have a diehard Nicole nut in your midst, so I hope I'm still wanted here. If I'm not, then I'll stomp my feet and cry--and, well, things could get pretty messy.

That's all I feel like typing right now, fellow Hermanheads. I'm shutting the f**k up in customary mizzimad fashion to give these words of *cough!* wisdom a chance to soak into the darkest recesses of your cerebral matter. So considering the length of this post, I guess I'll holler at y'all in about, oh, let's say, 2050. See ya then!

This is where I go to talk about Dave. You're right Minky, Dave is underrated, and mizzimad, Pat Kilbane is underrated also. I love X-News. (Who wouldn't???)

Here's a question for Hermanheads: what do you think is Dave's best impression?
No doubt, Dave is excellent at impressions. I haven't seen all of his sketches, but from what I've seen Gump Fiction was great and his Woody Allen is notable too.

Default The Man!!!!

Minky~ I thought he was funny in it and for 97cents it is worth it.
You can resell it when your done.
I have to say the Woody Allen is a good one. I find it hard to pick. Marsh is one also. But when the elections were on the other day all I could think of was him as Bob Dole. BD the "Pimp" BD trying to reach out to the youth. Especially that episode with Nicole as a Winona Ryder ( Beetlegese) look a like. The pierced nipple !!! Just steals the cake and the Lenders.

Well, Minky, as spot-on as those impressions are, I'm gonna go with Dave's impression of the late, great John Ritter in the Sling Blade movie parody. I'm probably the only one dopey enough to pick this one, so WTF. Now I'm gonna shut the f**k up before I overstay my welcome...

BECAUSE THAT'S SOMETHING BOSNIA WOULD DO!!!!

Hmm... I think I saw the Sling Blade sketch before I was a Dave fan so I didn't even know he was in it . But that was a good role and I loved John Ritter in it, so I'm sure Dave did it justice. I'll take your word for it and keep a lookout for that sketch. So we have Forrest Gump, Woody Allen, Bob Dole and his nipple ring (lol), and John Ritter. I'm not gonna ask another question 'til there's more time for answers 'cause then I would "JUST UNIBOMB" my own question.

I totally forgot about the Sling Blade one. He was funny in that.
But of course I he was funny in the one sketch where they were talking about his nuts and how he wouldn't want to keep Dick hanging. I saw that on the DVD.

(Minky...1 more post until 30...then your title will say "Member"...im such a dork. )

Um, hi, since when did "Unabomb" become a verb? And if you tell me that my nose is "full of crud," then I'm gonna have to "get medieval on your buttocks." Juuuuuuuust kidding...or am I? *Cue unnecessarily creepy detective music.*
