Many of you may not know this, but MADtv wasn't the first time MAD Magazine tried to get a show on the air. In 1974, MAD produced an animated television show in the hopes that it would be picked up by a network (what network I do not know). It was never picked up because the networks deemed it too lude and crude for television. It may not seem crude, or rude to today's standards, but remember, this was the 1970's. Trying to find footage of this first show is hard to come by, but today I have found the episode. As you will see, the show is far from what MADtv would become 20 years later, but there are a few connections. The animation is similar to the Don Martin's, Spy vs. Spy is here (all be it in colour), and parodies are rampant. Also, despite the fact that it was made in 1974, all the parodies are still pretty relevant today. What does that tell you about the state of America today? Here is the MAD Magazine special that could have been a show. A show that mind you would have been on one year before SNL. Yeah, take that hypothetical pie and eat it!
