Default What are your favorite movies?

We've had a music thread, now let's talk movies!

My favorite movies (in no order)...

-Rat Race (Rowan Atkinson rules!)
-Gremlins (Has anyone here seen this? Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one)
-Gremlins 2: The New Batch (I like this one even better than the first, but it's even more unknown and underrated)
-Austin Powers (1 & 2)
-Bean (I'll say it again: Rowan Atkinson Rules)
-O Brother, Where Art Thou?
-Man on the Moon
-Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Ah yes, The Truman Show, I mean to say that myself!

If you saw a Gremlin Movie 10 yrs ago and it was SCARY, it must've been the first one. The second one really wasn't scary, it was more cartoony and goofy. It didn't take itself or the first one seriously, going so far as to showing the Gremlins attacking Leonard Maltin while he bashes the original movie! I love Gremlins...

BTW, jeremy, which Gremlins did you like better? I like 'em both for different reasons, but I'd say the second one is my fave. I recommend the "Gremlins" DVD...now where's Gremlins 2?

You'd think so, wouldn't ya? And they could have so many great bonus features, like special effects stuff, both versions of the theater/VCR attack...of course, the "Gremlins" DVD I just got today has a trailer from Gremlins 2, which isn't a good sign...why would they do that if they were gonna release the 2nd one?

So, you've seen Gremlins, tarza?

There were lots of Gizmo dolls made between 1984 and 1990 (the 2 movies), and you can get 'em cheap. Just check www.ebay.com. I always thought the little evil mogwais were even scarier than the gremlins in the second one, vice versa for the first one. When Mohawk crawled out of the garbage can when I first saw "2" years ago, I was freaked. One of the things I liked about "2" was that the gremlins were all different, especially the mutants...spider gremlin is awesome. But Gizmo just kept gettin' cuter and cuter.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch

Billy and Kate have graduated and gotten jobs at the Clamp Center in New York, a ridiculously high-tech skyscraper owned by Tump-like Daniel Clamp. The skyscraper holds a TV studio, a shopping center, plenty of restaurants, a genetics lab and plenty of other fun stuff to ruin...anyway, Mr. Wing, the old antiques guy who owns Gizmo, is the only holdout in Clamp's scheme to buy out nearly half of Chinatown to build an Oriental-themed shopping center. A week after Wing refuses Clamp's exorbatent offer, he dies. While Clamp's bulldozers teardown the antiques shop, Gizmo escapes, but is caught by twin scientists from the Clamp genetics department, Splice 'o Life (or S.O.L.). Well, after a series of coincidences, Billy comes across Gizmo in the lab and rescues him, leaving him in his desk drawer. The curious little Mogwai escapes in search of adventure, and is soaked by a leaky drinking faucet. He multiplies, of course, producing four evil Mogwais, including the mohawked Mohawk, in the fashion of the leader from the previous movie, Stripe. The mogwais eat at a food bar after midnight, turn into gremlins, multiply again and again, and soon stumble upon the genetics lab, drink the formulas, and soon turn into mutant gremlins, such as the spider gremlin, the electric gremlin, the bat gremlin, the woman gremlin, and the infamous talking Brain Gremlin, voiced by Tony Randall.

I love everything about this movie...the slapsick, the in-jokes, the music...but of course I love the first one too, for different reasons. They're very different movies, the first one's an odd horror, the second one's an odd comedy/horror/spoof of itself.

Gee, that was fun. I wanna watch that again now. Hope it was informative!

Yeah, very informative. Thanks. :p
I guess I don't really remember too much about it, I was thinking "Maybe I haven't seen it" up until the point where you started talking about the mutant Gremlins. I do remember that.

The first one is the one where they're in the movie theater and the mall, right?

I sure do.

Yep, the first one was when they were all singing "Heigh Ho" and watching Snow White in the theater, then Stripe ran to a department store for the final battle.

Default Gremlins 2 memorable quotes

Like you didn't see this coming...
----------------------------------
Mohawk, forcing Gizmo into a copy machine:
"Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo Gizmo AHAHAHAHAH!!!"
----------------------------------
Forrester, watching the radar dots rapidly multiplying on the infestaton control screen:
"That could be rats, right?"
----------------------------------
Clamp: "Forrster, you're supposed to be taking care of the bugs around here, well, I would call these some pretty goddamn major bugs, wouldn't you?!"
----------------------------------
Leonard Maltin reviewing the movie "Gremlins", unaware that a pack of real Gremlins is right behind him: "...just re-released on video, the movie "Gremlins", though I really can't imagine why. I woud rather have my teeth pulled for two hours. Any moviegoer so desparate to pay to see this kind of trash deserves to be...AAAH! AAAAHH!! I WAS JUST KIDDING! IT'S A 10!! A 10!!!" The gremlins strangle him with a film reel...
---------------------------------
Gremlins, taking over your VCR and making shadow puppet of a bird, a rabbit, and Abraham Lincoln against the snowy screen:
"Tweet-tweet!" "Bunny rabbit!" "Fourscoreandsevenyearago! HAHAHAHA!!!"
--------------------------------
The Brain Gremlin, demonstrating civilization by shooting another gremlin: "Now, was that civilized? No, clearly not. Fun, but in no sense civilized."
-------------------------------
Gremlins taking over an investment firm: "BUY! SELL! BUY! SELL! BUY! SELL! AHAHAHAHAH!!!!"
------------------------------
"Microwave Marge" taping her cooking show in the Clamp Cable Network studio: "Some people use a dash of sherry...*takes a swig*...I use a llllot."
------------------------------
Daffy Duck, watching the end credits: "Long, isn't it?"
==============================

Hey, Mel, with this post, I officially pass you, and I am now the #4 poster!
