I know some of you watch this show, or did until your favourite character was mercilessly killed off.
![]() I also got sick of Jack. I know the show is about him, but no way is it possible that someone can run on full cylinders for 24 hours the way he did, unless he was on speed or something. One of my favourite parts of the season was when Maya killed herself in the CTU medical room or whatever. Erin Driscoll was such a bitch, but the kind of bitch that is so unaware of people that you can't help but like her. I wish she would come back at some stage. I also loved Chloe getting sent out on assignment and ****ing up the terrorists. She should get sent out on assignment more often. ![]() Season 5 hasn't started here yet, but I've been following what happens online by reading recaps and watching clips. I was shocked that they killed off ALL those core characters, but kept Audrey, who sucks donkey dick. I've heard they might shift the location of the show next season, so maybe thats why. If they kill Chloe off, I will go Jack Bauer on someone ... or just be angry. __________________ What happened to Andrae? ![]() |

I've only seen three or 4 episodes and they were the ones that wouldm probobly upset me the most.
I saw the season premiere of this season. I never watched it before but seeing Reiko Aylesworth die was depressing. Same with the president and Tony (I thought tony died). I didn't even know the characters from the show but it was sad. I then didn't watch it until the gas thing. I saw the last part of one episode... right when Edgar died which was depressing also. Then I saw the one where Sean Astin and that guy died to save everyone as well as Tony actualy dying. Damn traumatizing!!! Needless to say I always watched the wrong episodes but I think if I watched this show religiously I would be an emotional wreck. __________________ We All Go A Little MAD Sometimes... I liked 24 when it first came out. But then lost interest between seasons 2-4. Then there was all this hype for the 5th season. Maybe it's because 24 has lasted longer then a lot FOX shows (which is about 1 season). So I watched it and then I liked it. Once they shot the ex-president, I knew this season was going to be crazy. So, now I have seen all this season's episodes. The saddest episode was when they killed Edgar. It was just sad to see him beg for the others to open the door. It was even worst seeing Chloe's face. They even ticked the clock at the end silently for the first time ever. So, if the same things happen like last time, I will not watch 24 till season 10.

Ah, I was waiting to see a 24 thread here!
I've been into it for quite a few years. So many people have died this season... Edgar's was the saddest thing ever. And was worthy of the silent clock. But I'll always continue to watch it no matter what happens. |

To me, 24 at its best is one third action, one third emotion, and one third story -- a thought-provoking, heartstring-tugging, adrenaline-fueling thrill ride. Sadly, as of late, the writers have all but entirely eschewed emotion and story in favor of speed and formula. The more I reflect on past seasons, the more I realize that 24 became a completely different show in S4. For better or worse, each episode seems to stand on its own nowadays. "Oh no, the nuclear football is missing! But, uh, don't worry -- we'll have this situation resolved by the end of the hour." This new direction is a bit of a double-edged sword in that, while it certainly makes the show more accessible to new viewers, it also removes a huge chunk of what made 24 so appealing in the first place -- the unpredictability factor that current fans are so quick to exalt, but is largely missing from the show's current incarnation.
In the past, an episode of 24 consisted of... well, anything! Back then, the story was free to flow, wind, and roam where it needed, when it needed, as quickly as it needed. Back then, a character may have driven to the docks and finished up in 10 minutes, or a character may have headed down to the Chandler Plaza Hotel and remained there for 5-7 episodes. Back then, there was no push to tie everything up at the end of each episode, and it was this that earned 24 its reputation as a show you need to watch either from season premiere to season finale or not at all. Conversely, current episodes seem to follow the same recipe time and time again -- start with a base of 3-4 meaningless-in-the-scheme-of-things subplots that can all be tied up by the end of the episode, setup meaningless subplot #1 for the next episode with a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers, and sprinkle liberally with a dash of main character genocide. This formula (minus the genocide part) worked well enough in S4, largely because, when you don't make the mistake of pissing away your foremost talent on "shock deaths" (I'm looking in your direction, S5), the prospect of a true return to form is always on the horizon. Indeed, the final three episodes of the season came close to the genius of previous years when my girl was finally given her chance to shine. Were it not for the lackluster resolution to the Marwan plotline, episode 24 would've been the *perfect* way to end the series -- Palmer making his final contributions to both the Whitehouse and CTU, Audrey getting what she deserved, Tony & Michelle leaving CTU to live happily ever after, and a dead-to-the-world Jack Bauer walking off into the sunset. While story always took a backseat to action and while emotion was reserved solely for T&M's obligatory 30 second conversation in each episode, S4 had enough going for it to make it a winner with both old- *and* new-school fans alike. Why oh why did they have to come back for another year? I guess that brings us to S5 and the aforementioned character genocide. My number one beef with this season, as anyone who knows anything about the actors of 24 could probably gather from my caption and avatar, is the death of Michelle. Aside from the obvious emotional gap her departure left -- which, again, accounts for a third (if not half) of what I love about the show -- the deaths of Tony & Michelle were more or less on par with Jack himself biting the big one. As early as the first episode of S2, the two of them have always been just as important, just as integral to the plot and the *show* itself as Jack has ever been. What if George was fatally crushed by the whale in the marine biologist episode of Seinfeld? What if Donatello died of a heart attack from eating too much pizza? What if Rachel contracted AIDS from Joey, gave it to Ross before she was tested, and all three of them dropped dead during the delivery of Emma, causing Monica and Phoebe to take their own lives in grief? To me, the killing field that 24 has become as of late is right on the same level. As much as I still love the character of Jack Bauer, the show has become just as meaningless as its subplots have been these past two seasons. In each episode, I can be sure that Jack will come out unscathed, with the possible exception of the finale. In each episode, I can be sure that a bunch of characters I have no attachment to will do a variety of things I won't be interested in, through simple virtue of lack of attachment. And most importantly and tellingly of all, in each episode, I can be sure that I simply won't care what's going on. The compulsive need the writers have developed to outdo themselves each and every week has ultimately ruined the show for this viewer. The clearly intended "wow" moments now come across more blasé than anything else. "Been there, done that." "Saw that coming from a mile off." These writers have tried to make the show so unpredictable that it's only had the complete opposite effect -- that is, it's become predictable in its "unpredictability". For shame... Don't get me wrong, though. Michelle *is* my favorite character of all time -- television or otherwise -- and her death alone *should've* been the only nail I needed in my 24 casket, but I *did* hang in there for a few weeks. After my girl's senseless (and, again, meaningless) death, I tried to stick with the show, hoping that somewhere along the line, it would be justified with a worthy "Tony's revenge" plotline. Well, I guess I should've known better. The March 13th episode in which Tony died *his* senseless death was the last straw for me. As much as I'm pleased the two of them are now together in "24 Heaven", the episode in question only served to confirm the suspicion I've had since the season premiere -- that the show has simply run out of juice. Did anyone else's mind go straight to "Friday the 13th" with the whole Henderson instantaneous reanimation thing? Nice try, writers, but that's not 24, I'm afraid. Or, at least, it wasn't at one time. Through solving the show's "problems" -- that is, the slower, more methodical pace, the complete, flowing, and above all else, *sensical* storylines (don't even get me started on how superfluous and inconsequential to the plot Michelle's death was), and those pesky characters taking screen time away from the true star of the show: bloodshed -- the powers that be have opened 24 up to a whole new audience and taken it down a path that, based on what I've observed in the community, seems to have alienated a sizable portion of their (now former) fanbase. I guess you could say they pulled a MADtv. ![]() ![]() Sheesh, what an essay that turned out to be! I guess I just wasted my night on something no one will ever read. ![]() Quote:

![]() On a more serious note (not that I wasn't being mostly serious above, mind you), Chloe provides the comic relief that one could argue a show as dark as 24 needs. She serves a purpose, and Mary-Lynn plays her to perfection. Beyond that, she's not exactly what I'd consider favorite material, so I don't pay her much mind until she's on screen. She's certainly the best thing the show *currently* has to offer outside of Jack, but that's not saying a whole lot. __________________ /bw |

I'm sure you've all seen this by now, but just in case...
Meatloaf once sang, "I would do anything for love, but I won't do that." Jack Bauer did "that". Twice.Ah, endless hours of fun. ![]() In other news, A&E is airing the David Herman episodes on May 21st. If you happen to enjoy Sunday's block of episodes enough to tune in for the following batch, you'll get a chance to witness both 24 and Michelle at their very best. Highly recommended. ![]() __________________ /bw |

SOOOOOOOO i've just finished watching season 5
Why oh why did everyone have to be killed Poor Tony...what a craptastic way to die.I totally expected him to go out in a balze of glory, not by getting injected with some stuff and then keel over..PISS WEAK Michelle barely got to mumble a paragraph before she was blown up,david palmer got shot in the neck/head/whatever Pretty much 3 essential 24 characters that we've spent 4 seasons growing to love were all killed WHAT THE i'd understand if maybe one...even 2 were killed.BUt 3...and also edgar to top it off...i don't get it They should of killed Kim while they had her back for like 2 episodes, shes useless.she was only godd in season one and then she became a joke You know who i wish had of came back...Mandy,shes my fave bad girl And i don't much like the way the season ended...but i kinda knew that the whole "chinese government wants to kill me" story wouldn't just disappear.I guess this means we'll see NO ONE we like, other then jack Bye Chloe,Audrey,Bill,Mike,Aaron and anyone else thats made it through more than one season ![]() Oh and btw...i wish they had of brough back Erin Driscoll..did she just die after her daughter died?? Oh and my very last btw....President Logan reminded me of Richard Nixon...and um...i wanted to punch him in the face The very end for real now |

I do. Also you're a weak-minded idiot if you take anything on that show to heart and let it influence your political beliefs. Cartman, you'd probably better steer clear of it.

Delayed indefinitely. If the WGA strike doesn't end soon, S7 won't air until 2009.

After teh writers announced the strike was over, I got excited because I thought 24 would start showing some episodes. Now we have to wait until January 2009 before we see Jack Bauer. When the new season airs, it better be the best ever because they have so much time to work on it.

Thoughts on the premiere:
I love how Jack's the pussy this season. That should be an interesting dynamic. DAMNIT, RENEE! Mr. Sark from Alias! Katee Sackhoff is one ugly bitch. What happened to Tony? No mention of him at all? ![]() A love interest for Jack I don't continually find myself with the overpowering urge to strangle? *gasp* Episode 5: Mandy infiltrates CTU-NY and kills the director, Erin Driscoll replaces him. Make it so! I can't believe I'm buying Freddie Prinze Jr. as a CTU field agent. Or an actor. DAMNIT, CHLOE! __________________ /bw |

Speaking of things that crush my soul, it makes me sad to see Chloe being a noob. She sure doesn't speak like a person who wants to keep her job, but I'm sure after she saves their asses a few time she'll be fine. A couple more things I noticed: there are 2 characters from BSG on this season: awesome. Detective Hauk from The Wire is on: awesome. The TV show host with the awesome pompadore haircut is now the fictional middle eastern county president: awesome. Kim showed up just long enough to give us a look at those new wide hips she's sportin and then promptly got the hell out of our faces: awesome. Aceveda from The Shield was on briefly: awesome. This premier could have gone a lot worse. I am starting to get more and more conscious of the new CTU's director odd posture and its starting to get irritating. At all times he walks as if he's ducking through a doorway. I think he think that makes him look more serious. __________________ An invariant mass requires rest energy without a HITCH, which makes Newton's second law as it appears in a nonrelativistic classical mechanics sitch, BIATCH.
