Biography:
Josh Meyers wishes nothing but success for his older brother, Seth -- and vice versa. Despite being literally a continent apart (Seth in New York, Josh in California), the two brothers are every bit as close as they were when they were growing up in their hometown of Bedford, NH. In fact, Josh has no problem whatsoever in admitting that Seth, a "Saturday Night Live" cast member since 2001, has the better job of the two brothers: "The history involved there makes it cooler." Even so, Josh has not done too badly for himself either. For two seasons, he was a cast member on "MADtv," the rival sketch comedy series for Seth's more popular show. After "MADtv," Josh spent a season on "That '70s Show"; and after that comedy series' cancellation, he struck holding deals with both FOX and CBS. Unfortunately, Josh's first pilot for CBS, "Up All Night," was not picked up for the 2007-2008 season. Josh continues to remain upbeat about his current fame, though: "It's super-exciting; I'm happy to be in the mix out there." The road to his present notoriety is a fascinating one, to say the least.

Unlike many other aspiring actors, Josh did not grow up with parents who knew much about show business. Upon learning of his son's intentions, Josh's father, Larry, an employee of General Electric Commercial Finance, confessed his lack of showbiz knowledge and could advise Josh only to keep his word and to be nice to people. Josh's mother, Hilary, has worked for over twenty years as a French teacher at Bedford's McKelvie Middle School. It was middle school, in fact, that provided young Josh with his first real performing experience: a role as Leroy in the school's summer production of Fame. Josh had to be "tanned up" for the role; after all, he jokes, there are "not a lot of black kids in Bedford." After starring in a couple of other junior high school musicals, Josh continued to enhance his performance skills in several high school plays. In particular, he looked forward to the school's Winter Follies talent show, during which he and Seth would act out Monty Python sketches. Early in his life, Josh was inspired by not only Monty Python but also other avenues of British humor such as "Jeeves and Wooster" and "Fawlty Towers"; therefore, his decision to pursue a comedy career after high school was as natural as a Republican vote in a New Hampshire primary election.

After high school graduation, Josh followed Seth's footsteps by moving to Evanston, IL, to attend Northwestern University. Unlike Seth, who studied film at Northwestern, his younger brother decided to pursue a theater degree. Josh starred in several university productions; one of the most notable was Tommy, in which he played the title character. Perhaps Josh's most unusual acting gig occurred with the Mime Mafia, a creative outlet which he proudly defends by noting that mimes have to be in excellent physical shape to hold their positions for a long time. ("I was a specimen back then," he laughs.) Nevertheless, the theatrical endeavor that would prove most instrumental to Josh's future as a comedic actor was Mee-Ow, the campus improv troupe. Through Mee-Ow, Josh received his first true improvisational comedy experience; and to this day, he credits the troupe with giving him the "improv chops" he needed to conquer the next phase of his career.

Now a seasoned performer with some improv comedy background, Josh tried out for Boom Chicago after graduating from Northwestern University. After passing the audition, he moved to Amsterdam, Holland, the home of the legendary improv troupe. While at Boom Chicago, he met three other actors who, like Josh, would later become "MADtv" cast members: Nicole Parker, Jordan Peele, and Ike Barinholtz. Ike in particular became a close friend of Josh's; and after the two men left Boom Chicago, they headed for Los Angeles, CA. Shortly after moving to L.A., Ike and Josh received small roles in the 2001 thriller Down and appeared in a two-man comedy revue. The revue, which garnered much critical acclaim, eventually got the attention of "MADtv" producers, who brought in Ike and Josh for an audition on the sketch comedy series. At the time that Josh received the phone call about his audition, he was working as a fill-in nanny. The four-year-old boy who was in his care had just hit his seven-year-old brother in the head with a baseball bat, so obviously the great news of his "MADtv" hiring could not have come at a better time.

Josh joined Ike Barinholtz and others as a featured player during Season 8 of "MADtv." The transition from Boom Chicago was jarring in some ways for Josh: "I never felt like I had the full freedom to go off the page, because some people you work with aren't going to be improvisers. Any mistake that you make costs everybody time when you're on a show like 'MADtv.' You're very conscious of trying to get it TV-ready." Despite the relative rigidity of the series when compared with the Boom Chicago experience, however, Josh admits that performers do have more freedom on "MADtv" then they have on most other shows. During his time as a "MADtv" cast member, Josh contributed several impressions, Eminem and Owen Wilson perhaps most notable among them. Although his repertoire of recurring characters was rather meager, Josh did have one honorable distinction among them: a reprisal of Pat Kilbane's Spishak Spokesman. None of this success, however, was enough to convince the "MADtv" powers-that-be to keep him around past Season 9; so after two seasons -- only one as a regular cast member -- Josh was dismissed from the series.

Fortunately, it did not long for Josh to find work after "MADtv." During the final season of "That '70s Show," he was hired to play the hirsute, self-confident, and unbelievably lucky Randy Pearson, a music major at the local community college whom Hyde (Danny Masterson) hires to work at his record store. Josh describes his character on the comedy series as "a little like an Eddie Haskell-type character [in] the way he deals with his parents — who’s always scheming, but in a playful way." In spite of his rather limited time on "That '70s Show," Josh confesses that he was rather overcome with emotion after the final episode had been completed. He would not mind shedding those tears on a grander scale someday: "I would like to be in on the ground floor of something that ends up running for a significant amount of time." Whether Josh will ever find the successful sitcom pilot that gives him access to that "ground floor," and thus a showbiz home similar to the one that Seth has found on "SNL," remains to be seen; however, rest assured that his older brother will indeed be there to cheer him on all the way -- and vice versa.

Where are they now?
As of November 2007, Josh still has a holding deal with CBS. Josh lives in Los Angeles, where he spends his ample free time with his girlfriend and with his dog, Pickles.

Fun Facts:
  • Josh's special skills include: improvisation, vocal training, dance training, conversational Dutch, all dialects, mime, harmonica, corporate teaching, and athletics.
  • Josh learned improv from Ann Woodworth, Bud Beyer, Laurie Scheer, David Zucker, and Dave Tolchinsky at Northwestern University, and also from Mick Napier, Ron West, Josie O'Reilly, Matt Besser, Joe Bill, and Scott Robinson at Boom Chicago.
  • Although Josh's brother, Seth, is two years his elder, it was Josh, not Seth, who first took to the stage.
  • Josh is best friends with fellow MADtv cast member, Ike Barinholtz.
  • Josh's dog, Pickles, made an appearance with his owner on an episode of "That '70s Show." At the time that the writer came up with the script, he had no idea that Josh has a dog whose name was identical to the one he had written into the episode; Josh's Pickles was simply added after the fact.
  • Josh loves to cook and entertain people at his house. Along with fellow Boom Chicago alumni who reside in Los Angeles, Josh also participates in "supper walks," in which different households cook one course of a meal and then walk together to each house to eat a new course before moving on to the next house.
  • Josh was once a "Manny" (aka Male Nanny).
  • Josh's favorite baseball team is the Boston Red Sox.
  • Josh's favorite football team is the Pittsburg Steelers.

He grew up in New Hampshire with his older brother Seth(SNL), his mom, Hilary, who teaches middle school French, and his Dad, who's retired. He was voted class clown a few times in high school, and he didn't walk at his college graduation because he got a job in a show that started that day. At BoomChicago (Amsterdam), he met Ike Barinholtz and they are now best friends. They still live together. They moved to LA and did a two-man show. Meanwhile to make a living, Josh was a "Manny" (male nanny). Nicole Sullivan saw their two-man show and got them an audition for MADTv.

LOL, yeah I asked about a month ago in the live taping experience thread if it was his GF, but you didn't respond, and I forgot. Why are you so hard on Josh all of a sudden? Funny like cardboard? I think Josh is really funny. They just need to give him better material. Gheert is my favourite stand alone recurring character of the season (But only because the only other choice is Bae Sung ) And he is great as the "straight man" and as the Spishak Spokesperson. Come to think of it, there hasn't been a Spishak sketch in a long time

I don't know what caused me to get all hard about Josh all of a sudden, I guess I'm jealouse or sad because he has a g.f- but I don't even like him!!
A really mean story, the whole reason I went to my first taping was because I wanted to tell Josh that he has a cute brother! (don't get tooo mad at me, I never did it!) I guess I'm just a big, mean b*tch who can't be happy for other people. Anything else new?

Did you know that Josh goes out with Missi, madcc? Because you gave her a when she was mentioned to be in Nicole's new show. Do you dislike her because:

a) She's a bad actress
b) She's dating Josh
c) A little bit from column A and a little bit from column B

I actually like her as an actress, she was funny as the gold digging sister in Bringing Down the House, and I think it sounds cool that she's on Nichole's show- if josh has so many connections to this show, perhaps he'll end up in a guest spot everyonce in a while- the more Josh on TV the better, right?

Is she the same actress who was in "Galaxy Quest" as the alien girl? If so - I loved her in that! I didn't know they were dating. Josh is SO Hollywood - dating a big movie actress.

I believe that she is in Galaxy Quest, I'll have to watch it again (it's been a long time) Josh IS hollywood. But, Hollywood is fun! I don't get why everyone always says that "going hollywood" is such a bad thing, of course, I guess I'm just a wannabe-hollywood-groupis, so maybe that makes me biased!
