Default The Simpsons

Ok, since there are so many Simpsons fans on this board, and we've never really talked about it much, I thought I'd start a Simpsons thread.

Name your favorite Simpsons...
Season
Episode
Character
Joke/One-liner
Homer Mmmm...
Bart's chalkboard saying

Fill in as many or few fields as you like.
Or, if you just wanna talk casually about the Simpsons, skip my questions all together.

Here are my answers...
Season: 3-9, I think. They've gotten so dumb lately, but I hear that the current head writer is leaving soon, so hopefully the show will return to its earlier quality
Episode: This is a tough call. I think I've seen every episode ever, but I really like anything from the seasons I meantioned above. Character: I like 'em all, but Prof. Frink, the Comic Book Guy, Ralph Wiggum, and, of course, Homer, stand out.
One Liners: Homer: "Wow, everyone's stupid but me!" Ralph after seeing a rat: "The pointy kitty took it!" and about a thousand others.
Mmmms: "Mmm...something" "Mmm...pointy" and "Mmm...unexplained bacon"
Chalkboard saying: "I will finish what I sta"

Have fun!!

I love the Simpsons, but the last couple of seasons have been garbage. They've dumbed down Homer to the point that now he's an annoying idiot.

My favorite character is Milhouse.
favorite episode..."A Milhouse Divided"

and my favorite thing ever is when Milhouse is talking about the time Santa's lil helper ate his goldfish and Bart told him he didn't have a goldfish. "Then why did I have the bowl,Bart? Why did I have the bowl?"

I totally agree with you on the last couple seasons, jeremy. Fortunately, I read that when the current head writer leaves, Homer will not be so dumb, just ignorant like he was before.
That Milhouse line was great!

Season: If season 3 was when they started drawing the characters properly and season 10 was when the show started getting stupid, then seasons 3-9. There *have* been a few great recent episodes though, including the latest Halloween special and the one where they go to Africa after finding a golden giraffe in an animal crackers box.

Episode: I honestly don't have a clue in hell. This is even worse than your "which Final Fantasy should I buy" question. :p

Character: Homer, Comic Book Guy, Frink, Chief Wiggum, and Snake.

Joke/One-liner: "Facts are useless. You can use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true. Facts, schmacts." -and- "The satisfaction of helping another human being is all the thanks I, etc."

Homer Mmmm...: "Mmm... sacrilicious."

Bart's chalkboard saying: I've seen a ton of funny ones, but I don't remember any.

I've gotta agree with Matt here. This is just way too hard! There are so many episodes that I'm blanking on most of them under the pressure, LOL! So, I won't even make an attempt.

Feeling lazy tonight...

Guard: You're not a shoplifter, you're just a fat kid. Sorry about that fatty fat fatty. Hey Tom, he's just a fat kid! Aren't you, fatty? You're just a big ol' fat kid. Here's some chocolate, fatso.
Chris: Thanks!

Lois: Oh, honey, no one thinks you're fat.
Lifeguard: I'm sorry ma'am, you can't park your van on the diving board.
Lois: This is my son!
Lifeguard: Oh. My apologies. Hey Tom! He's not a van, he's just a fat kid!

I know that feeling.
And I know what you mean about it being hard. Picking Simsons favorites from any category is about the hardest question in the world for me... I know I'll soon think of something I like as much as my choices here...

Quote:
If season 3 was when they started drawing the characters properly, and season 10 is when the show started getting stupid, then 3-9.
Well, the characters didn't look too bad in season 2, but the voices, personalities, etc. hadn't quite fully developed. Still wasn't a bad season though.
The show was starting to degrade at 10, but they got really bad around 12.

That African safari one wasn't bad, but the sad thing was that it wasn't a Halloween episode, it was just a normal plot. That's how outrageous the plots have gotten.

Oooh, 95 posts...

The lawyers name is Lyonel Hutz. His office is located in the Springfield Mall and is called "I Can't Believe it's a Law Firm!"

What's sad is that I remembered all that within less than 2 seconds...

Some of the new episodes are good, but I can't wait to see if they improve in season 14(!).

The "Cape Fear" (Thompsons) episode was great..."I think he's talking to you..."

Last night I bought "The Simpsons: the Complete First Season" on DVD. I highly recommend it! The three-disc set contains:

The complete first 13-episode season: "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire", "Bart the Genius", "Homer's Odyssey", "There's No Disgrace Like Home", "Bart the General", "Moaning Lisa", "The Call of the Simpsons", The Telltale Head", "Life on the Fast Lane", "Homer's Night Out", "The Crepes of Wrath", "Krusty gets Busted", "Some Enchanted Evening".
Optional audio commentary by Matt Groening on all 13 episodes
Early sketches
Early animation tests
Tracy Ullman short: "Goodnight Simpsons"
Documentary: The Making of the Simpsons
Albert Brooks' audio outtakes from "Life on the Fast Lane"
Foreign language dub clips
Original on-screen scripts from "Bart the Genius", "Bart the General", "Moaning Lisa", and "Some Enchanted Evening"
Animatic test from "Bart the General"
Booklet with episode summaries & trivia

...and I'm sure there are some features I can't remember or haven't found. I heard that Matt Greoning has already laid the commentary tracks for season 2! The set runs around $30 (American), and if you have a DVD player and are a Simpsons fan, buy it NOW!!! If you're not a Simpsons nut, but a fan, you may want to wait for the later seasons...

YES I am a Simpsons NUT!!!!!!!!!!!! I have honestly seen every episode, and have many of them memorized.
I don't know for sure when Season 2 is coming on DVD, the official site isn't working for me, but soon this year, especially since Groening's already laid down the commentary tracks... "Mmm...commentaries..." I'm definately buying it when it comes, though, looking back in my guidebook I forgot how good season 2 really was. It has 10 more eps than season 1, so it will probably be more discs and more $$$. But I'll buy it no matter what!!!

BTW, not only is Matt Groening on the commentaries, but also James L. Brooks and various writers.
