TV Show Recommendations

Here's a TV recommendations thread I decided to create for the purpose of deboredifying myself. Perhaps you, too, can benefit!

• Found a show that someone on the forum might like? Suggest it here and prepare to immediately be called out on your awful taste.
• Looking for a new show of a particular type, but you're not sure where to begin? Post a list of your specifications here.
• Undecided as to whether or not a particular show will be worth your while? Solicit opinions from those more familiar with it here.

Pretty self-explanatory idea, so I don't think anything else needs to be said here aside from the obvious -- should the discussion ever go in-depth enough to warrant its own thread, you know what to do.

with the cancellation of Terminator and Prison Break (which I thought sucked major dookie, but I digress), I highly reccomend you giving Dexter a shot Matt, if you haven't done so already. It's fucking incredible. And I agree that LOST blows.

I sat through three or four episodes of Dexter a few months back on someone else's recommendation, and while I didn't hate it, it didn't hook me either. Without a Michelle, Sara, or Cameron to pull me in by the heart strings, I find it very difficult to get into dramas.

Oh, and yes, Lost blows. Why the sudden change of heart?

Bite your tongue sir! Lost is great! It's plot twists, and mystery keep me tuned in every week. It's the only good drama I like on television and since I am a tvman, that makes it the ONLY good drama on television!

Oh, yeah I forgot to mention the Terminator thing. That was bound to happen. No one can survive on Friday prime. Getting a show on Friday prime is as good as being cancelled.

See, I keep hearing that, but I just can't get more than four episodes in without losing all interest. I, for one, don't see what the big deal is.

I heard that Dexter has like one good actor and everyone else is horrible.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon here and say motherfuck Lost. I watched all the episodes back to back for the first 3 seasons or so before I punched out. The show is infuriating. Nothing makes sense, you have to wait forever for a question to get answered, only to get replaced by more twists for twists sake. It reached a point where I realized that I don't give a fuck what the island is for, what Dharma means, why there are invisible monsters running around, the back stories or the futures of any of those people. I wish nothing but starvation and dysentery for everyone on the island, if they are indeed still on the island and not in space or traveling through time.

I'm still resisting urges from everyone including blackwind and some of my closest friends to start watching Prison Break. I think I've just resolved to pick it up as soon as I make my way through the last few seasons of the X-Files, which is getting rather painful.

That about sums it up. If the premise alone is enough to hold your attention, it might be worth a shot; if you expect strong acting, compelling characters, and interesting storylines from your shows, though, I'd steer clear. But then, you were willing to sit through nine seasons of X-Files, so I get the feeling those aren't among your chief concerns.

As for Prison Break, I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone and everyone between the ages of 1 and 200 with a television and at least one working eye. I'm going to forego any further gushing for the time being, because I think that's what's turning me off Lost -- no matter how brilliant it may be, there's no possible way it could ever live up to the comically overinflated expectations its fans have set for me -- but rest assured that, when you get around to screening it, you won't be disappointed.

See, there was a time when I simply wasn't a fan of his work, but then I had to sit through FOURTEEN episodes and a two-hour movie's worth of cowboys in space for Summer. I'll never forgive him for that. Plus, if Terminator bites the dust and Dollhouse doesn't, I have a feeling I know who'll once again be snapping up his favorite actress the very *second* she's released from her contract, thereby fully renewing the hellfires of Whedon hatred that burn within me.

Why, oh why, couldn't someone else -- ANYONE else -- have discovered this girl?

Oh, fuck you both. Michael C Hall is beyond amazing and Jennifer Carpenter is hilariously retarded and a joy to watch. The vast majority of the supporting cast are there for comic relief and its pretty much all about Dexter with the occassional side stories of Rita, Deb and LaGuerta, and whoever the villain is for the season. It's the only show I can be bothered to watch because everything else on tv is so craptastic at present. Bring back Dead Like Me!
