Though I wonder how they got Jayma Mays to come back and play Charlie when she's doing Glee on FOX. Surely there must be some sort of non-competition clause in her contract.

Agreed. When handled in a sensical manner (Lost ), time travel is an excellent plot device. Chrono Trigger references don't hurt either, nor does Jayma, who's still endlessly adorable.
