I too have my doubts that a Lakisha/Melinda final will occur, but I would definitely hesitate to say that one of them will go soon. As my proof, I'll refer to that article you found. While I would disagree that Blake deserves to be up there with Jordin, Melinda, and Lakisha, I do think that the writer has a good point: this season, there is a huge chasm between the best performers and those who, well, don't quite cut the mustard. (That's as euphemistically as I can say it.) Therefore, even taking into consideration the whims of voting public, I can safely say that there's no way in h-e-double-phallic-symbol that Lakisha won't make it to at least the top four. Melinda will definitely be a finalist, and probably the winner; I just don't see how she can miss. Melinda is essentially this season's Fantasia, i.e., the performer that one can legitimately pick early in the competition to take top prize. But okay, I'll concede this much (and refute my earlier prediction in the process ): if Lakisha is not this year's runner-up, then, okay--*sigh*--it will likely be Jordin. There, ya happy?

As for Jordin's being better than Lakisha and Melinda...um, no. I will say this, however: because of her age and her "pop appeal," I think that Jordin is more marketable than Lakisha and Melinda, whose primary audience is probably old fogeys like yours truly, the forum Santa Claus. Still, when Lakisha and Melinda are at their best, they live the songs they sing in ways that Jordin simply can't aspire to, IMO. I don't intend for that argument to be a slight on Jordin; I do think she's very, very good, even brilliant at times. I just think that Lakisha and Melinda (and especially the latter at this point) are in a different league from the other performers this season, and tonight was proof positive of that difference. Oh, and you can hear Jordin breathe between notes.

Oh geez, look at DialIdol as of now.

Yeah, if this comes true, I'll re-think my watching of this show. http://www.dialidol.com/asp/predictions/Predictions.asp Then again, looking at DialIdol's track record this season, I could see that NOT happening.

EDIT: Haley leaving's ok with me, but I'd like to see Jordin (*sigh* and LaKisha..) out of the bottom.

Heh, this sighing is contagious.

I don't know how much credence, if any, I can give to those figures. O.K., obviously, San-jive-ugh's high placement doesn't surprise me; but Phil is second? Never. Ever. Ever.

Ever.

Melinda and LaKisha are so boring. HISS. They're not very unique at all, and that bugs me. Good-unique, I mean. Not Sanjaya-unique.

Yeah, I agree, they need to do something...different, fast.

Anyway, Gina's gone. I think she deserved another week or so, so I kinda am sad about that.

Gina deserved many more weeks. Yet another victory for mediocrity.

Psh, Melinda and Lakisha make "AI6." You guys need to listen to more jazz and blues.

If they make AI6...then they must be pretty bad, because AI6 sucks.

I got a little dare of my own this week: I dare anyone to tell me that Chrissy Schmo was actually good this week. I don't care what the judges said; he's obviously bribing them. When even Sanjaya outsings you, you've got problems.

That being said, I don't foresee a bottom-three placement for Elliott Yamin, Part 2, this week. Even so, picking a bottom three is an iffy proposition this week; after all, this wasn't one of the stronger performance weeks overall. Still, Melinda and Lakisha brought it (as always ); and Blake was nearly their equal, at least in terms of performance and song choice if not vocals. (In the latter category, he can't hang with mah grrlz...sorries.)

All right, well, Cue Ball definitely slipped on the high notes--ouch, painful--and Haleggy seems to think that sex appeal alone will get her through each week; therefore, I'm picking them for the dreaded trio. I'm reluctantly (as reluctantly as is humanly possible) picking Lakisha as the third bottom-three contestant simply because two of the judges didn't like her; however, she'll also be the first to return to the couch of safety. (BTW, Paula, when you can bring anything to the table but that Minnie Mouse "singing voice" of yours, I'll take your criticism seriously. Psh, idiot. ) I've twice picked Cue Ball to go home and have been wrong each time; however, I feel a bit safer in the pick this week. Since Philly Cheese blew the high notes, those slips alone will probably be enough to send him on his not-so-merry way. In short, Sanjerka, Topher, and Sexxx Kitten survive yet again. Oh well, one mediocre contestant down, three more to go.

BTW, say what you will about J-Ho; but she'll always be "Jenny from the Block" to me. She's real like that, y'know.

Last night sucked, the only person who did decently was Blake. Jordin, Melinda, and LaKisha did alright, but it was FAR from their best, and everyone else sucked.

Some guy from dialidol.com posts vote totals every week (not the bullsh*t the actual DialIdol site has been giving this season ) and is right every week...and he says it's LaKisha this week. We'll see.

Well, thank Gawd, Greyhound, and Marc Anthony that he was wrong. Hell, she didn't even fall into the bottom three this week. Great call.

On a more serious note, I'm not picking Philly Cheese anymore as the one to go home. I've been wrong three times now, and my record in picking each week's loser is taking a major hit. (I'm now 2-3 and very, very bitter. ) Now watch next week be the week he goes home; that would be my luck.

Still, I'm hardly shedding any tears over Haleggy's departure. She wasn't good enough for the finals, IMO; and it was just a matter of time before America finally woke up and smelled the stale coffee. Even so, the Sanjinxa express rolls on; and Topher and Cue Ball survive too. All is well in Cluelessville.

Gads, next week is the country show! I don't mean to stereotype, but we all remember what happened to Mandisa last year. Melinda can sing anything, but I have at least a sliver of doubt as to how Lakisha will do next week. Then again, I'm just trying to picture Sanjaya's singing a country song--not pretty. If he enters the stage next week with a ten-gallon hat atop his pate, then I will literally go Elvis my TV set. (BTW, I reserve the right to do likewise if I hear a judge utter the word contemporary one more time. )

I liked Haley but it was her time to go.

I still want Phil to go, but I think LaKisha should be worrying, and the Sanjaya hype is starting to die out a LITTLE bit, so he could leave, too.

Sanjaya should be kicked off purely for that stupid-@$$ pony-hawk deal he had going on. He's a little boy who know's he's not deserving to be on that show, so he stoops to shenanigan's like that to get attention and votes.

I'm not impressed.

Well, country night wasn't anything special, though it was one of the better weeks this year..still, given how mediocre this season has been, it isn't saying much.

Anyway, I liked Jordin, Blake, and Melinda tonight. Phil was decent too, but LaKisha, Chris (happy, mizzimad? ) and Sanjaya sucked.

I see a LaKisha, Chris, Phil bottom 3. Phil is safe first, but it's between LaKisha and Chris for the spot home. I think it could be either of them, but for now i'll say Chris is gone.

Happier, perhaps, but I'm not at all thrilled with the name you placed before his. And if my speed dial means anything in this farce of a season, then La-La won't be going anywhere. Sh!t, I keep forgetting I'm only one person. Oh, what I wouldn't give to have a thousand phones to dial simultaneously!

Seriously, the judges have been extremely unfair to Lakisha over the past two weeks, IMO. O.K., so maybe she could have picked a better song than "Jesus, Take the Wheel"; but she still sang the hell out of it. Their criticism that she didn't connect with the song is bogus beyond definition. You may have been able to offer that criticism last week--may, mind you--but not this week. In Lakisha's hands, that song took on a life that Carrie Underwood couldn't hope to muster. Jesus, were the judges waiting for her to yank out her heart and let it bleed onstage before they would be convinced? Randy, Simon, I don't know which drugs you were stealing from Paula's stash before tonight's show; but they were obviously not heart pills.

Oh, and another thing while I'm on my beloved soapbox: the fact that four of the seven contestants still remaining are male is a joke with a very bad punchline. Weren't we all saying just a couple of months ago that the females were miles better than the males this season? Have so many voters fallen in love with Chris's "Justin-ness," Phil's Dumbo ears, Blake's spiked hairdo, and Sanjaya's...oh, don't even get me started...that they've lost all sense of objectivity? Everyone, including the ever clueless judges, keeps saying that this is a singing competition. (I'm starting to lose faith in even Simon at this point.) Well, then, if that's the case, then why in Jesus X. Christ's name aren't Stephnie, Sabrina, and Gina still around? Oh, but noooooooo, let's make damn sure we save Blake and Fake every week because they're "contemporary," of course. Speaking of Spike, I would put him in my bottom three this week if Randy and Paula weren't so enamored of him. I mean, I like Blake all right, but his performance was definitely off this week; it sure as hell wasn't anywhere nearly as good as Lakisha's supposedly "off" performance. That's it! I've jumped ship on everyone but Melinda, Lakisha, and...*sigh!*...all right, Jordin too, although I still don't think she's as good as M. and L. (Ah, but she's "contemporary"--how can I forget? )

Ah, what a catharsis! (Admit it: you secretly enjoyed my rant.) All right, well, Phil saved me a little trouble this week; he was actually quite good tonight, easily the best of the guys. Based on only the judges' critiques, my first choice for the bottom three is my cherished La-La. After that, I'll stick in Chris and--yup, I'm going here--Sanjaya. Seriously, his time has come. We're down to seven now, and I totally agree with Simon that tonight's "Sanjaya-gasm" was right down there with a lot of the early auditions. Still, Chris will go...waaaaaaah.

(I'm really in a pretty decent mood; I just wanted to have some fun. )
