Gabmore Girls: This was HILARIOUS. Mo was, as usual, hilarious, and this whole thing was just hilarious, especially the comments. A hilarious parody from start to finish.
Expedia.com: Typical Season 9 overdone impression sketch.
Ms. Campbell on The Apprentice: A weird sketch, but I actually thought it was really good. Combining it with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was brilliant, IMO. Not the best Mrs. Campbell sketch, but still hilarious, IMO. A very good sketch.
Kim Jong Il Show: Meh, a waste of Nicole's Renee. Besides that, see the comment for the Expedia.com sketch. Not good.
Stuart: Surprisingly funny for a later Stuart sketch. Mo and Paul made this sketch, for the most part, but it was still really funny. I liked this.
Aries and Ruben: Don't like Aries or Ruben. Didn't like this at all.
Bride of Funkenstein: Some funny parts here...the monologue by the bride was funny. I don't really like these all that much though, to be honest.
Celine Dion Christer Commercial: This was funny. I'll admit Nicole's impression isn't too accurate...but this was still pretty good.
MADtv Encore: Debate: This was funny, but not THAT funny...the joke got old at the end. Not bad, though.

Overall: I REALLY don't see what was so great about this episode. Besides Gabmore Girls, nothing stood out as excellent, and a lot of the sketches fell below par. It was better then some of the other Season 9 disasters (916, 920, 923), and it wasn't a bad episode, but it was far from great.

6/10

I've never seen Gilmore Girls either but I understood the sketch. Here we go...

Gabmore Gilrls
Bobby's appearances were funny, and the rest was good too. 4.5/5

Expedia
It was funny, but a cheap shot. 3/5

Ms. Campbell/Apprentice
This one was funny, I liked it more now than the original airing because I didn't watch the Apprentice at the time. 4.5/5

Kim Jong Il Show
I never liked these sketches but Nicole's Renee was hilarious and some of Bobby's lines were gold! 4/5

Stuart
Loved it. Paul was great here, Mo's final one of these was great. Some of Mike's lines were priceless! The liver part was funny. 5/5

Aries and Reuban
Short and stupid, but not enought to do anything with. 4/5

Bride of Funkenstein
I didn't enjoy this one as much as the Werewolf Hookers one, but there were some funny parts. 4/5

Chrysler
I don't really remember the actual commercial so I didn't get this one too much, but it had Nicole in it. 3.5/5

Senator Debate
They could have gone back and stuck in the 'encore' logo for the repeat. This one was funny though, it looked as if Mike almost stumbled a couple of times near the end, but I liked it where he kept repeating what Ron said, just with different words. 4/5

Reuban Performance
I love it how Clay (runner up) got high profile and appeared on SNL, when Reuban (winner) is getting so less coverage everywhere else. I don't like Reuban, I didn't want him to win AI, I do not like this song, I switched to Weekend Update because they could have squeezed in a sketch that is better than the man named after a sandwich, singing a terrible song! Ahhhhh! 1/5

Outtakes
Yeah. 5/5

Overall: 9/10 (that's 4.5/5, if you're not awake). I liked it. No Ike or Josh though (but their absence wasn't realized until just now).

I've never seen it, but I got it... if you listen to the dialogue they practically explain it to you too. I thought it was really funny

WTF Was this??? This must've been one of those parodies where you have to have watched the actual show to have gotten it.......I didn't get this at all.......
Pretty much, although the gist of this sketch is that they talk really really fast with big words and they talk alot. Plus all the impressions (besides Paul's) were eerily accurate. It's a good parody, but you need to have seen the show to understand it.

Ok I'm actually watching this for the very first time. When it originally aired, my tv was busted so here's my review........

Gabmore Girls: WTF Was this??? This must've been one of those parodies where you have to have watched the actual show to have gotten it.......I didn't get this at all........2.5/5

Expedia.com: OMG I laughed my ass off at this.....Hilarious stuff 5/5

Brought to you by: Fun stuff 3.5/5

Mrs. Campbell on "The Apprentice": Yeah this was just dumb.......All it did was talk about how obscenely rich Donald Trump is, and how much of New York he owns.......1/5

Kim Jong Il Show: The little Korean joke is really the only thing that made me laugh..............ok and the panda birth too. LOL.......yeahhhhhhh 1/5.

Stuart at the neighbors: This is actually really funny. Paul is really funny in this.......Mo and Paul cracking up was really really funny and sad at the same time......... the funniest sketch so far......5/5

The Bride Of Funkenstein: I swear to god if I see Aries naked or half naked or even remotely close to being half naked one more time.......I'm gonna PUKE all over the place. Danielle screaming and trying to run away with the crutches was funny, although I could've done without the screaming..............this is just stupid.......WTF is up with all the damn screaming!!!!!! 2/5

Chrysler Commercial: Hilarious, although the impersonation was not very accurate..................4/5

ENCORE: Great Debate: I liked this one......it wasn't excellent but still good 3/5

Ruben Studdard Performance: Skipped this!

Funkenstein Outtakes: About as funny as the sketch itself......which isn't that funny.

This was a so so ep, considering its the very first time I've seen this, I expected more going by what everyone else had written.....Some good some bad.

6/10.

The TV guide in the local newspaper said that there was a Star Jones parody, and that was in either 915 or 916 (I'm not sure which). But they haven't re-aired this one yet, so I don't know, maybe the TV guide is wrong. Also, Scorpiogrrl, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR AVATAR?

This episode re-airs this week. I'm so excited to see this one again, I liked it so much. The Stuart sketch was awesome, as well as the Gabmore Girls and the Apprentice one. I can't believe out of 25 episodes today, this one was one of the three I don't have on tape (yet).

Lol wo thats way too much analysis for one sketch, but i guess the fact that it has some inaccuracies is probably because they tried to make the parody more general in which you didnt have to have seen the show to find it funny.

LOL, I found this on the alt.madtv google site.

My reaction to the sketch was kind of mixed. I thought it
began cleverly but lost validity as a satire on the show the
further and further away it got from the show as the sketch
went along. The accurate impersonations of the lead Gg
characters were undermined by unfair impersonations of
Gg supporting characters, inaccurate set design (putting
them on the porch of a Queen Anne-style house the same
color as Lorelai's house doesn't work when you put the
house *right next to a fence that doesn't exist on the show
you're spoofing.* Also, a couple of the jokes were just plain
mean. The skit gets a C- for writing (as much as the skit
departs from the source material, the few parts that it gets right,
it gets *very* right), an A for the acting of the two leads (who
are the source of the only material that the skit gets right),
an F for the acting of the two supporting actors, and an F for
tech (set design). Overall grade: D+ or 1/5 stars (and that's
mostly because of the expert impersonations of the actors
who played Rory and, especially, Lorelai.)

I thought whoever played Lor (Mo Collins?) had Graham down
pat and thought that the Lor & Rory's spoofing of the banter, in whichthe dialogue degenerated into a parody of "Pickalittletalkalittle" from The Music Man, was clever. Also, the spoof of the walk-alongs, in which they broke the fourth wall into the audience and started getting dizzy at having to walk along with the cameras was funny.

HOWEVER, I despised their depictions of Sookie and Lane.
In doing the typical sketch comedy convention of having the
plus-size female character portrayed by the fat guy in the cast
(If this had been SNL, they would have done the exact same
thing, having the over-rated Horatio Sanz play the Sookie
spoof) -- that would have been mean even before Melissa
McCarthy had lost all that weight. As it is, it was just the first
instance in the skit that demonstrated that either no one on
the cast/writing staff watches Gg regularly or the ones that
don't overruled the ones that do in order to go for the cheapest,
stupidest jokes possible, whether or not they had anything
to do with the show being spoofed, as they were just plain
out of touch with what the show is *now.* And, as a fan
of the original Harvey Kurtzman Mad comics *and* the
magazine itself, the cardinal sin of Mad Magazine is *not*
not being funny -- not all jokes work, but if you throw enough
jokes at a target, enough of them will stick to make for an
hyusterically entertaining story -- but not being *accurate.*
Mad's variety of Cheap and Stupid jokes only work when
they actually apply to the target and they didn't here, far
too often.

Their spoof of Lane was also problematic, overrating Lane's
importance to the show (at least, to the early seasons of the
show that they were spoofing) and basically writing her off as
the show's token high-strung Asian-American character. Having
her interrupt each scene with a drive-by joke -- literally, she drives
through each scene on a bicycle -- might have been funny if it
weren't for the fact that Lane's trademark props have always
been things like walkmans and backpacks, not a child's bicycle.
As a result, MadTV did more to highlight the token nature of its
own Asian-American cast member than to satirize Gg's own
non-token minority character. IMO, MadTV gave him an Asian-
American character to spoof not because they were particularly
interested in spoofing the character -- otherwise, the spoof
would have been closer to the mark -- but because he fit the
character's ethnicity.

Also, the place that the skit just plain went off the rails into
non-funny land was the recurring motif of snow angels. I'd
just like to know when in the hell snow angels were ever a
recurring motif on Gg, much less a motif that needed skewering.
I know, I know -- it's common on family-bonding shows to
use snow-angels or some other kind of activity in some sort
of montage to sentimentalize the bonding process -- but
Gilmore Girls has scrupulously avoided these soul-deadening
cliches of the family show genre when they haven't spoofed
them outright (and to far better effect than this sketch did.)
However, if the skit had done these snow angel jokes over,
say, a parody of the theme to "The Courtship of Eddie's Father"
with Gilmore-ish lyrics, thus turning the skit into a more general
spoof of the family-bonding shows that Gg itself subverts,
then the less Gilmore-ish aspects of the skit probably would
have worked for me.

Also, having Rory come out from under the bubbles in
Lorelai's bubble bath, while a creepy/funny visual in concept
(even though Friends did it minus the creepy with Monica
and Chandler a couple of years ago), just didn't work because
no matter how much I'd like to contemplate Lorelai having
her bubble baths interrupted -- a version of that inspiring visual
(such as Rory barging in through the door) isn't something that
ever happened on the show (NYPD Blue maybe . . .). If they
really wanted to go creepy/funny in suggesting that Lor & Rory's
friendship sometimes borders on a spiritual incestuousness (at
least, I *think* that was the point they wanted to make by sexualizing L&R's relationship with the bathtub scene) , they had a much richer visual that they could have built on that actually appeared in the series at one point, which was the scene from Rory's Two Birthdays in which Lorelai hops into bed with Rory and proceeds to recount Rory's conception and birth in embarrassing detail. Instead, it looks like MadTV either wanted to advocate Lorelai addressing more adult issues on the show more often and/or losing her clothes more often (not a bad thought in and of itself, and I apologize profusely for admitting that even though it should come as no surprise, but still, it needed to be said for the sake of taking the joke at face value to point out that it just doesn't work on that literal level. But I digress.) or they wanted to advocate seeing their own Mo Collins naked more often (in which case, they should just write an R-rated slob comedy for her and get it out of their systems so that they can stick to the point on their show).

Also: in the cheap shots department: the text-overlays
pointing out that the #92-rated Gg is one of the WB's top-rated
shows just begs the obvious observation: if it's so low-rated,
why should a show on the FOX network be not just obsessed
with spoofing it, but *showing the spoof in its highest-profile,
opening slot?* Oh, yeah, that's right. 'Cause Gg is actually
hundreds of light years funnier than even MadTV is at its best
(and I howled over the Rudolph-the-Red-Nosed-Reindeer-meets
-the-Godfather spoof from a few years back.) Sounds like
professional jealousy to me.

And another thing: the skit featured no depiction of Emily
at all. That's a bit like doing a Star Wars spoof without Darth
Vader. If you fail to include one of the show's iconic characters,
its villain (or antagonist), within the spoof, then you flat-out don't
understand the show well enough to be spoofing it. But, of course, if they *had* included Emily, they would have had to deal with the fact that Emily is virtually devoid of sentimentality is in and of itself a subversion of the very family-show sentimentality
that MadTV inaccurately accuses Gg of having. And that
would have exposed the running "snow angels" gag as completely nonsensical.

Overall, it's a bad, horrible sketch, more notable for the lead
actors' obsessively-accurate impersonations of Graham and
Bledel than even for the fact that it's just another salvo
in the unfair, dogpile-like bashing that Gg is getting this
year from far too many people, who, like the writers and
performers of this sketch, are stuck on Seasons 1 & 2.

-- Rob Jensen

I think he overestimates just how much MADtv fans, for the most part, care about fine attention to detail of the Gilmore Girls series. Also, this is better than the last essay I wrote for University. That's kinda scary
