Default My second year seeing MADtv at the Chicago Improv Festival!

It was even better than last year's show, if you ask me. We got to Chicago on Thursday and that night we saw an improv group from LA called Cog. It featured Stephnie Weir's husband Bob Dassie and it was hosted by Emo Phillips. That was pretty good, but not even close to the MADtv cast the next day.

The MADtv Improv thing seemed bigger this year, we went to the Friday performance and it was packed. I would have liked to have gone to the performance on Saturday or maybe either Mo's one-woman show or her gig with Beat Box, but we could only afford to stay for two nights. Emo Phillips was the emcee and was a lot better than that awful news anchor woman last year. He told the same exact jokes that we heard the night before, but it was okay because he is so crazy that he's really funny.

The MADtv Writers on Hiatus were the first act. Just like last year, they performed a collection of MADtv sketches that didn't make it on air. Some of the sketches that they did included an American Idol parody, a commercial for pads with wings, a husband who wrote his wife a song about how much he loves her but really just sings about sex, a messed up boy scout leader and a game show for smokers. This was better than their segment last year.

There was a 15 minute intermission and then it was time for the cast to do improv. This was amazing and I think that the group of five that they had this time worked better than having the large group like before. Paul, Mo, Mike, Ron and Keegan were all absolutely incredible and it was easily the best improv show that I have ever seen. Mo cracked up a lot but it just made it even funnier. The show was awesome.

Afterwards I did get to meet all 5 of the cast members that were there. Keegan came out first. He was busy visiting with a group of friends that came to see him, but we did get to talk to him for a little bit and get autographs and photos. Ron was next, followed immediately by Michael. Both were very nice and seemed surprised that I came from Michigan just to see the show. We talked to them for a little bit and took pictures. The person who I was most excited to meet again was Mo. When she came out, she instantly recognized me. She not only knew me as Cat_Named_CeCe from Planet MADtv, but she also knew that she was #3 in my cast showdown and she knew all about my weekend with Debra. She comes on the site all the time and she calls us her "peeps." Paul came out shortly after Mo and we talked to the two of them for a long time. Mo is so sweet and easy to talk to. She looked all through my MADtv scrapbook, especially at the pictures of last year's Chicago Improv and of my weekend with Debra earlier this month. She introduced me to the girl who got to party with her until 6am last fall after her one-woman show and to some other people who were there. We stood there and took pictures and talked for a while. Both Mo and Paul thanked us for coming all that way just to see the show for a second year. Mo invited my friends and I to hang out with them, but we wouldn't have been able to get into the bar that they were going to, because none of us are 21 yet. It sucks, because we could have spent all evening hanging out with Mo and Paul but because of our age we weren't able to and so we went back to our hotel. Nevertheless, we did get to talk for a while and I was amazed and honored that Mo knew all that stuff about me. It was a really really cool night.

I'll post pictures soon. I didn't want to leave, Chicago was too much fun. If I had my way, I would have been there for the show again tonight.

Mo has her own band called Beat Box? Is that a music group? if it is, does she sing in the band and does she play an insturment like guitat, keyboards or Davy Jones' tambourine?

Ugh, seems I missed another good year. Oh well. I had every intention of going, but mid- April my dad took me to see a show, which cost 68 dollars, and my parents are paying for my ticket to Ozzfest this summer, so I didnt bug them about going. They went out last night anyway, and I doubt theyd want to go on a Friday. Oh well.

Thats cool matt

I went to the improv show's on both Friday and Saturday night. I went up for Mo's show on Wednesday as well. That was my third time seeing the show. She is amazing. She got a standing ovation which was well deserved. I brought a friend who had not seen the show and she was completely taken back by it. It was nothing like what she thought is was going to be and she fell in love with Mo. Keegan-Michael Key and Paul Vogt came to see the show as well. I also met Jordan Peele's mother who is a very sweet lady.
I agree with everything that was said about Friday's show. Now Saturday's show was even better! The Mad tv writer's did fewer scetches than on Friday, but that was okay. The improv afterwards was great with Mo getting into a fight with a girl in the audience. Mo asked for a suggestion and someone said "hair dye," but Mo heard "hair net" and the woman shouted back "HAIR DYE" Mo acted like she was going to beat her up and all the boys were there to back her up. Michael even took off his belt. Hilarious! After the improv Michael McDonald and Ron Pederson left. Up next was Mo Collins and the Beatbox. This is an improv show in which they rap. Everyone was great! Mo picked it up nicely. There is nothing that woman can't do! After that show Mo and Paul Vogt left. Leaving Keegan's show with Second City. It was funny, but nothing like when the five cast member's performed. There was 2 movies and then improv in-between.
After that show was over I went and spent some quality time (hee hee) with Mo at the bar like I did in October. She is an amazing person, always welcoming her fans with open arms. She took pictures with fans all night even though she had to be dead tired after perfoming. She said she would be back for the improv fest next year and I can't wait!

Mo'Diggity - I would have killed to come to the performances on Saturday as well as Mo's One-Woman show. Unfortunatly, we could only afford to stay two nights so we arrived on Thursday and left at 6pm on Saturday. It sounds like you had a great time. It was awesome meeting you. Please post pics, I just got mine back today and I'll scan and post them soon.

I'll have pictures to send soon. It was nice meeting you Cat_Named_CeCe as well. I was just very fortunate to be able to go to all of the shows. That doesn't usually happen. I had a great time and Mo Collins rocks!!! The best one at the event was Mo and ironically enough she isn't even on the show anymore! It just doesn't make sense to me. She needs her own show damn it!

Default Hello

Hello! My name is Cacilie,I'm almost 31 years old,and I'm a big Paul Vogt fan!In fact,I had the great honor to meet the man this past Saturday(Apr.30),at the Chicago Improv Festival! My mother and I flew all the way to Chicago,Illinois from California so I could see Paul perform at the festival with some other Mad TV cast members. After they were through performing,we hurried outside to the stage door to see if any of them would walk out,and the first person we got to see was Paul!He was very nice to my mother and I,talking with us for a bit and autographing my blank book I had brought. My mother took some photos of him autographing and us together! We had the chance to talk with him 2 more times while we were there, and I have to say that Paul is one of the nicest people I've ever met!I'll never forget it!

Hi Cacilie! I think I sat by you at the show. Are you from Northern California? I was in the front Saturday with a few friends and I remember there was a big Paul Vogt fan who went with us to see them after the show. If that was you it was nice to meet you.
P.S. I was the pregnant one.
